to be clear since this is making the rounds: she has to be an absolute loser in no way that can be pinned on her gender. no "i'm just a girl tee-hee" stuff. straight up just a loser (nondenominational)

I decided to sit down and concentrate and properly write the list of rules that qualify a character for this role.

FIRST LAW: This character must be a woman.

SECOND LAW: This character must be a loser, but not in a way that can be pinned on her gender. Misogynistic response from the audience does not disqualify the character.

THIRD LAW: If the audience does not enjoy this character, then it becomes impossible to enjoy the show/film/book/game altogether. It is not possible to ignore this character, for better or for worse.

FOURTH LAW: The character must make bad decisions, and not just be a victim of poor circumstances outside of her control. The character can also be a victim of poor circumstances outside of her control, but it has to be primarily her personal choices that deem her a loser.

What if you were a woman in your FORTIES and after accidentally almost drowning your high school bullies via a self help book written by SATAN you help dig up the founder of your CURSED town only to find out HE IS STILL ALIVE and can communicate through little notes and you’re trying to be nice to the again IMMORTAL MAN WITH A POOPY POST IT IN HIS BOY LOCKET but he’s not being very nice so now you have to write another LITTLE NOTE and ask if he’s mad at you

I think it’s clever that in a way Your Turn does give Patricia some growth. when she realizes that she could save the entire town and they still wouldn’t like her, she’s finally able to let go of her debilitating fear of judgement and steal a police car ❤️

i agree so much about making your blorbos pathetic but i do fear that many take this to mean 'make them more traditionally feminine/submissive' which genuinely hurts my soul. make your blorbos pathetic in interesting character-oriented ways. understand their neuroses and turn the dials up to eleven. juxtapose the parts of life they handle extremely well with the parts of their lives that make them eat shit. make them angry. make them cold. make them pave their own way to hell while building walls preventing them from seeing any other way. please i'm begging you no more pathetic as an euphemism for bottoming im gonna mclose it.
