Jam*ela J*mil is off-putting, not because she's brown or outspoken or any of the reasons your average racist/misogynist thinks, but because her "messages" about body positivity are as uselessly apolitical as she is, and because she spends more time calling out individuals (usually women lol) and companies than actually addressing the structures behind most of the issues she's championing which allows her to curate a woke Cool Girl persona that appeals to women as well as men. you might disagree but I've had enough of hollow celebrity social movements that do enough to get attention but do nothing to dismantle the structures that perpetuate these issues because those structures are what give celebs their status anyway. Cool Girl is rich but doesn't flaunt her weath. Cool Girl is woke but doesn't direct her wrath at anyone or anything that matters, only the most noticeable. Cool Girl hates the gym and dieting Just Like You but is magically still thin enough. Cool girl uses buzz words and slogans, but never actually tells you how you can structurally affect change. Cool Girl knows normal women are fed up with the usual celeb bullshit so says and does all the right things for you to still admire her, but does nothing to actually upset the establishment she's worked to be a part of and ultimately wants to maintain. I have no doubt her work has some positive impact and that's nice but she's part of the problem she keeps championing which is why she doesn't actually want it to change. because it's HER BRAND not her actual cause. she's also antiblack as hell.
