This latest Time Portal is a collaboration with a friend. She presented me with the painted wooden piece which I cut to shape, inset in this oak wooden panel and then added the remaining elements that takes me on a journey. The title is “The Queen Awakens”. I will next start a piece and present it to her for creating what she thinks is an exciting journey.

This is my most recent Time Portal. This piece is titled “Aperture to distant galaxies”. The materials used to create this are, stone, brass, wood and acrylic paint. It’s also been finished with a water based semi gloss varnish. This has an image of another galaxy viewed through the stone aperture. This will be on display at a local gallery here in Grass Valley California during this month.

It’s been far too long since posting some of my latest work. Here are two of my latest Time Portals. The first is themed Elements.The materials are wood, brass, copper acrylic paint. The wood has been curved with slots. The metal element symbols have been done by chasing/repousse and framed in silver plated brass.

I just sold this to a friend.

This smudge stick holder has been evolving for some time. Today, it’s reached completion in my creative eye. The elements that make this up are one silver plated goblet, minus the stem, one vintage glass lamp shade, one silver plated brass serving dish, some copper wire, three copper tabs to hold the glass to the dish and one smudge stick. I think I must make another now.

This is my latest Time Portal. I call this one, “Destination, Dream Time”. The creation of this takes me to a different time and place. The journey is what I enjoy most while letting this evolve. The materials are things I have collected over time. The way I process these and assemble them is what excites me. I imagine this device to take anyone who views this to a place and time of their imagination. This has been made using wood from pallets. Steel fittings from a motor. The forged steel crystal in the center is from a heavy chisel. Sheet copper is cut to shape with symbols to add some magical element. This will be part of a series of Time Portals in a show very soon. The show opens May 4th here in northern California. May the fourth be with you. ^____^

The time was ripe for making a new time portal. I had made one element some time ago and now have more direction in where this will go. The glass dome magnifies your view when you look inside. I set it in silver plated metal from a dish that had engraved motif and left part of it under the glass. I also set it over a recess. At the bottom is black paper with symbols in gold and white. Over that is a sliver disc, pierced with symbolic openings. One corner is cut in a swirl, one is sloped downward, one is covered in textured silver sheet and one with a carved triangle and silver bead. The central dome is wet formed leather, dyed black and adorned with a design in gold and white. I like the depth of the view through the glass dome when looking past the pierced silver disc. I really enjoyed the journey while creating this magical piece.

This is my latest dagger re-purposed from a 3/4 wrench. I left the ring on this time and forged it circular for a sterling silver dome. The dome has been textured inside and out to represent the full Moon. In the moonlight, there is a silhouette of a hare. This is based on a theme where this will be for sale. The theme is “Hare in the Moon”

In my part of the galaxy it is cold and wet. What better way to stay warm, produce some magical tools and feed my soul. These two small crescent moon daggers take shape with fire and hammer. What better way to stay warm and feed my soul.

These will now get ground and filed to shape before being adorned with leather handle wraps.

I have been working on these pieces for an exhibition with the theme “community”. I made these pendants with the idea that members of the community would wear a certain kind of pendant like a talisman. Which pendant would you wear.

I also carved this wooden spoon from apple wood donated to me by a friend that was cut down in her yard. This is being donated for a fund raiser. The money goes to a Food Bank organization that distributes food to the community.

It has been a snowing day when I finished all these so I had to go outside and play in celebration.

These are two more pendants created with “community” in mind. The first is in thick copper, textured and pierced with sterling silver rivets and bail. The second is forged steel, slotted, with three copper rivets and wire bail attatched to a copper chain.

Each unique and special like every member of our community is unique and special.

This something I do often. The quote that inspires me is; “ you can’t make silk purse from a sow’s ear”. I take this as meaning, you can’t make something lovely or precious from cheap materials. I disagree totally. I believe with creative passion you can indeed use almost any kind of materials to create an item of magical properties that someone would find precious.

These two pendants are made from a plain old steel washer and the other from common copper.

I had an idea to create a piece that instills a look of magical qualities. Something sacred. With forge, hammer and imagination, this is what I made. I’d love to hear from anyone what they feel when seeing these.

First one is steel with brass rivets for decoration.

Second is solid copper with sterling silver rivets and silver bail.

Two rings of Ginko leaf design as requested for a lovely friend. Both in sterling silver. One forged from a thin ingot of sterling and the other leaf soldered on a sterling band. Oh the joy of creating for beautiful people.

These are my latest metal feathers for earrings and pins. If you are going on adventure, how cool would you look with one of these pins holding your cloak around your neck while trekking through the mines of Mordor or across a glacier on your quest.
