just a PSA to ALWAYS RESEARCH HERBS/PLANTS BEFORE PUTTING THEM IN YOUR BODY
did you know that st john's wort can induce serotonin syndrome? which is life threatening (and very painful!!) btw
did you know that red raspberry leaf can worsen hormonal imbalances and irregular menstrual cycles?
did you know that ginger (yes!! that ginger!! the one that's in every other tea recipe out there!!) can thin your blood? which can be life threatening for people with certain conditions
and there's so much more this community as a whole should be aware of, especially when considering herbs to consume or apply to the skin
the resource i use most often is just this wikipedia article, although you should do individual research just to double check
i don't make this post to try to induce widespread fear of herbal remedies/a good ol herbal tea now and then, im just saying that not everything natural is good for you, and sometimes modern medicine is right. always consider consulting a physician before self-medicating or trying potentially harmful substances
because this post has been taken WILDLY out of context, i want to clarify that this post is about abusive and unfounded "wellness" companies telling you to ignore doctors and science and self-medicate instead
i know i could have worded it better, it was stupid! i didn't think about how it could have been misinterpreted!
what this post is saying: do not try to heal yourself with "quick fixes" or replace medicine with internet "wellness" bullshit. don't start self medicating just because some bozo said to do it online. all i want you to do is to not put random "supplements" or "immune boosters" in your body without knowing how they could affect you. i know the witchcraft community is rife with misinformation but please remember to USE LOGIC and DO YOUR RESEARCH
what this post is NOT saying: never interact with herbal medicine or natural remedies or GOD FORBID eat bananas and grapefruits (/s)
you actually feel gaslit when you try to tell white people of a certain age that pewdiepie, with a platform so vast and catering to youth, helped reinvigorate racism and casual dehumanization towards indians because they get all âomg you canât blame One man for thatâ like yes i can actually :) we were very incrementally making our way past the gas station indian popularized by apu and indian creatives were finally being given legitimate and serious opportunities (like say what you will about aziz and mindy in hindsight but at the time that was a shift culturally) only for this dumb swedish pig to get online and spark that vile shit right back up. ask any indian with a modicum of pride in their heritage and they can tell you how uncomfortable pewdiepie made us with ourselves
We've all gotten just a bit too comfortable being jerks to strangers on the internet I think
So I've hidden this reply, both because it's obnoxious and because I don't want the person who wrote it being harassed for it, but I need you to understand: I don't know you. We are not friends. This is not fun or cute, we are not sharing a charming joke together. You are just being an asshole.
literally that is what the post is about, I am saying people should be less eager to jump on any chance to be snarky and rude to total strangers on the internet
DID THE JOURNAL FACTORY FUCKING EXPLODE???
you said it yourself: you're looking to vent it LITERALLY ANYWHERE
so vent it somewhere private. or at least not literally aimed AT another person, a total stranger at that
Like, this reblogger sounds so insanely self centered in their reblog. notice how both options focus on how being rude would affect THEM. "B has no consequences for me so it's perfectly fine to do"
(the only reason I didn't show their username in the screenshot is because, given how self victimizing they sound in their reblog, I believe that, if I did show their username, suddenly online stuff wouldn't seem so inconsequential to them and they'd accuse me of sending harrassment their way and putting them in danger)
You said it better than I could. Of all the inane and ridiculous things I've seen in my notes because of this post, "I NEED to say fuck you to strangers or I will literally die" is certainly one of them
Happy Pride Month everyone! Remember 4 months ago when the CEO of this platform harassed and chased a trans woman off this website just for posting her transition timeline, then chased her to other social media platforms to continue harassing her, and threatened to call the FBI if she continued disputing the multiple dubious terminations of her blogs that did not violate tumblr's terms of service in any way? And despite tumblr staff insisting that the CEO was acting against their interests, the broad transmisogyny evident in the site's culture and moderation policy has still not been adequately addressed?
Remember that staff is continuing to nuke the blogs of trans women even after all of this. Remember this post when they call this site the queerest place on the internet again this month
It's 2 years later. It's gotten worse. Happy pride month.
They just termed @underpaid-tamamoland-employee again btw. Happy Pride
One thing im uncomfortably woke about is bugs. And im actively trying to get more uncomfortably woke. By this i mean i DO believe the normalised fear of bugs stems from both government and business propaganda. The start of household pesticide sales coinciding with the boom in insect related horror movies. The promotion of anti intellectualism and anti enviromentalism. If you're scared of bugs, you wont care about saving them. If you dont care about saving them, you wont care about saving our home, since without bugs it cannot be saved. If you dont care about saving our home, the rich can do whatever they want with the chunks of it they continue to destroy.
I WILL calmly and kindly try to help anyone who is afraid of bugs. I will show them my finds, i will explain their importance, i will tell them just how sweet and gentle and friendly they are. And I WILL shoot down any immature loser who believes senseless killing is the only possible response to not liking something.
Get woke. Love bugs.
EDIT: this breached containment. My usual like count is like 5 đ i want to clarify i mean people who conflate fear with hate are the ones who wont care about saving our planet, like people who threaten to kill peoples pet bugs or actively kill bugs outside for no apparent reason. Not people who run away from a bee.
I feel like bigotry is so normalized that people will inadvertently say genuinely strange and awful things, and because these things don't go against the grain and they're phrased "politely" (and are usually -- but not always -- out of white mouths) you'll see..........basically no push back. It's treated as a joke, or something that should be glossed over. But then something is pointed out, and suddenly the pointer outer becomes treated as a sort of complicit aggressor in the situation for speaking out. The fact that you have to be God's most articulate orator who is ever polite and ever patient, the fact that you had to be the one to shoulder the burden of saying something at all instead of it being immediately rectified, the fact that the pattern repeats.....I don't know, it's the kind of shit that genuinely breaks the spirit a little bit. The prioritization of "politeness" but the "politeness" holds no kindness; the "politeness" centers certain people's feelings. The "rudeness" comes from a place of genuine righteousness, but it's treated as if it's more of a problem, because direct phrasing offends sensibilities. The way that you can never lose patience, especially if you are perceived as racialized -- hell, the way that when you are racialized, it is always on you to be the one who speaks up and explains. Why do I have to perform for you while you and your saltine flavored peers slobber at the table, reckless and unthinking, considering yourselves the ultra civilized and beneficent while I stand alone except for my fellow outcasts, forced to perfectly fold the napkins lest I be accused of being lesser, unstable, unkind? You people are throwing mash potatoes. I'm just stuck cleaning up the mess. I'll need to probably write a post that untangles my thoughts and sections them off better, if I feel up to trying to disentangle my feelings better, later. But I think self-examination stays woefully lacking.
I want a sitcom about a friend group or family wherein one of the main characters is a trans woman. I want her to be the most bubbly, kind, energetic character and the show to demonstrate over the episodes that this woman is the fucking glue that holds these people together. They love each other but thereâs miscommunications and difficulties expressing themselves and well-meaning ideas that turn toxic. But you have this character who has had to build herself from nothing and is paying that joy sheâs cultivated outward.
And then I want a flashback episode that takes place ten years before. And that trans woman is the saddest, numbest man with no light in her eyes. I want her future self to haunt that narrative like a fucking specter. Watching fights that she would have stopped and people she would have helped. It should be clear that when someone finds themselves and cultivates self-love it spills out to the people around them, too. And the relationships arenât the same without that.
you guys realize âreblog baitâ is a trigger tag for psychosis that can be set off by posts that say things like âreblog this or your dog diesâ âreblog this or youâll never be happy againâ âreblog this to win a million dollarsâ and not for posts like âhey rb this and put in the tags x thingâ right
okay since some people in the notes are confused, and to be fair I didnât word this post very well, hereâs some examples on how to tag things
reblog bait: reblog this and youâll have good luck for 10 years
reblog game: reblog and put your favorite color in the tags
reblog bait: if you donât reblog this, we canât be mutuals
reblog game: reblog to give your mutuals a stuffed animal
reblog bait: youâre a terrible person if you donât share this, I donât care about your blogs aesthetic
reblog game: reblog and tell me if youâre right or left handed
basically, just think. is the post giving a threat, ultimatum or guilt trip? if so, it goes under reblog bait! a post saying to reblog but doesnât have anything like the above would go under reblog game. hope this clears stuff up
also people with ocd! and probably a lot more tbh. it just hurts neurodivergent people for no reason
The way adult fandom people hold indie online creators and cartoons to a much higher standard than their actual local politicians. You could be putting that energy into terrorizing and protesting conservatives at your town hall and actually make a good material impact on the world but instead you're background checking everything the trans woman who made the amazing digital circus has ever said
The point isn't "stop criticizing indie artists" or "defend your favorite show under this post". I don't even watch Digital Circus and no one is above criticism. Literally every indie show is getting torn to shreds on twitter right now and I'm not saying this to defend anyone I don't know. The point is "someone who actually has the power to kill us all and get away with it deserves way more ire and accountability than a cartoonist and I expect grown adults to understand this"
god i hate how normalized diet culture and shit like bmi and calories are. bmi is based on eugenics. calories are a measurement of how much energy something gives u and not at all of how much weight or fat ull gain. diets have been proven to be harmful and ultimately unhelpful in actually losing weight. fatness has been largely proven to not be inherently unhealthy and doesnt inherently cause health issues.
if anyone has more good links to add on then please do and if anyone knows more on this stuff than me then dont hesitate to correct me!
FOOD IS GOOD. FOOD IS GOOD. FOOD IS GOOD!! if youâre eating, ever, and even/especially if itâs hard, know that i am personally SO SO proud of you
The BMI was invented by Adolphe Quetelet, the 19th century statistician who invented phrenologist anthropometry. He wasnât just a eugenicist, he was one of the founding fathers of racist pseudoscience. Please do not listen to anything he has to say about your body.
âAnd get this: While epidemiologists use BMI to calculate national obesity rates (nearly 35 percent for adults and 18 percent for kids), the distinctions can be arbitrary. In 1998, the National Institutes of Health lowered the overweight threshold from 27.8 to 25âbranding roughly 29 million Americans as fat overnightâto match international guidelines. But critics noted that those guidelines were drafted in part by the International Obesity Task Force, whose two principal funders were companies making weight loss drugs.â

Body mass index is used to sell weight loss drugs, set insurance premiums, and counsel patients. There's just one little problem.
I always thought everyone knew this by like the early 2000s but instead I see more people than ever believing this stuff is real medical science
Man if y'all folks up thread thought this situation was bad back in 2021 (as I did too) you wonât BELIEVE what the 2026 cultural convo on these topics is like.
kind of fascinating how a lot of people donât really know how food works
saw a twitter video of a dude making like fried broccoli with bacon or whatever and everyone in the replies was going âcanât believe he took something healthy and turned it into poison!!!!â i donât really know how to explain to you that youâre still eating broccoli, and the healthy nutrients do not magically leave the broccoli just because you fried it
One thing that's cool about more formalized theory work, with the norm of citing sources and idea that you should make sure you're not just saying something that's already been said by someone else, is that if you try to do cyclic discourse like we do online you just get dunked on by peers for adding nothing new to the conversation.
Like you can talk about Important And Real Issues and be super duper correct and all but if you're just saying shit that's been said before you're not going to make contributions at a level higher than doing outreach on social media. The step to make it higher than that is to add something, and the stuff you add has to be worthwhile.
Like. I'm very much not pretending to be in the proper big leagues of transfeminist theory. I post on the internet, mostly in the form of remedial lessons on material that I think online queer spaces do a shit job of communicating. I'm not publishing proper essays on transfeminism, because I think the bar for that kind of thing should be pretty damn high.
For one, if someone publishes something they present as a serious transfeminist essay, it should be evaluated not in terms of whether it "brings up a real and important problem", but in terms of whether the original thoughts it presents about that problem have any merit.
i think bojack horseman was the first piece of adult media that i've seen really treat abortion in a serious capacity and i've rarely seen an abortion narrative handled better. idk abortion doesn't need to be a super upsetting serious choice
like watching diane go through a whole character arc about thinking abortion is definitely good but needs to be treated with the gravitas of a funeral only to hear another woman go "joking about abortions and being a babykiller makes me feel less scared to do it" and have her whole perspective shift was kinda life changing. like oh okay when things are good you don't have to feel shame for them
and while weâre at it, fuck this idea that ONE ACCOUNT has to belong uniquely to ONE PERSON. This is the same thing these silicon valley fucks want; their vision of the future where everyone has a unique biometric ID code implanted in their body is the ultimate extension of Netflixâs âno password sharingâ policy. You want to use your friendâs car? Sorry, you canât, you need to be an authorized user. Your mother wants to let you look something up on her OED account? Too bad! Thatâs only for her! The concept of perfect market efficiency gives them greedy little money bag eyes.
If I pay money to have a newspaper sent to my house, they donât charge me extra when I show it to my dad. This password sharing thing isnât just a Netflix problem; donât be surprised if it shows up elsewhere in other forms. Stamp this idea out now or weâll be stuck with it.
This is by far the most popular post I have and I have to say: good, Iâm right. Password sharing and ID verification are going to kill the internet. not oooh in 50 years. in like 5 more.
Anyway heres a list of things I think solarpunk is really good for:
Another angle for green movements - a lot of green movements have been skewed into ecofascism, dieting and various other capitalist interests. We risk this too, but with work, this is a path those who seek to live alongside the earth without falling into a cult or buying a bunch of crap.
Getting a hobby- I've seen so much wonderful textile work, eco- gardening and people developing skills - particularly during events like action week. For a world so focused on consumption, this is lifechanging. I'm learning hobby electronics and now I can fix my friends phones. That is tangible and immediate change. Graffiti and sewing go hand in hand here.
Gathering social groups and communities of likeminded folks - ALL OVER THE WORLD. The support network it creates makes forming structured movemements easier. Punks have known this since forever. Small music venues, library book clubs, and political groups all because of random groupchats. [I'll admit, forming structure should become a priority - with WORK, TIME and TRUST, it's happening.]
The mission of solarpunk as a literary subgenre is to show what is possible. Its aligned with science fiction in this respect. Science fiction inspires so much in the world, and solarpunk will do the same.
Good news: you can make the world a better place but you have to actually go out and do it. Volunteering, helping your neighbor out, picking up a bit of trash in public, giving up your seat, carrying extra food, etc. even little things.
The other good news is that apparently when people witness acts of kindness, it inspires them to act as well.
