I need to know more about your Batlantern
My BatLantern Headcanon? Like one that I mentioned specifically or just all and any of them?
Imma give you all and any of them bc I fuckin love these goobers
They are the very definition of 'missionary. so we can keep arguing'
There's two ways I like to play the BatLantern Falling In Love trope- either: A. They are just fuck buddies and then Bruce falls first, Hal falls harder (Bruce is just better at lying to himself and everyone else so no one notices) or B. They are Enemies who slowly start becoming Friends and realize the other person is maybe smarter than they thought and eventually the tension crescendos into a kiss that they either deny deny deny or at last admit their feelings
Hal visits Bruce's office in Gotham for the first time and in every version that is the day that Bruce falls in love with him, because something in their relationship shifts at that point. It's not Green Lantern meeting Batman, it's not Brucie Wayne having a business meeting, its Hal Jordan visiting Bruce Wayne. Just because.
Hal calls Bruce his sugar daddy half jokingly but its also partially true because Bruce buys this man everything
Hal is one of the few people who doesn't mind Bruce spending an exorbitant amount of money on him- he has no insecurities about it, has no issues with Bruce flaunting it because he knows its not like that and knows that it's one of Bruce's ways of saying 'i love you'. Bruce is unsure of it at first, but soon he finds it to be relaxing, buying things for Hal without having to second guess how it would come across
Bruce buys Hal an old flight jacket that his grandfather might have worn
Hal never buys Bruce actual gifts, he either hand makes them or takes Bruce out to Events as his gift, and Bruce treasures the memories and thought much more than he does the Thing
Bruce doesn't know it, but Hal's kryptonite is him saying 'Hal' in his slightly raspy, a little bit pained voice, asking for forgiveness for something
They never stop 'hating' each other, their banter and sharp insults and sometimes aggressive pranks are their form of foreplay
Bruce burns like a furnace and Hal always runs cold, so he snuggles up close to him even before they started dating
Bruce shares old crime movies that he and his father used to watch with Hal, and Hal shares old sitcoms that were his and his grandfathers favorite as a child with Bruce
Bruce originally hated the nickname 'Spooky' because he doesn't like the idea that someone who is supposed to trust him and work with him is afraid of him- only bad guys should fear him- but Hal says 'Spooky' in the same soft tone he says 'Baby' so now it's okay
Bruce calls Hal 'sweetheart' and 'love' and Hal calls him 'baby' and 'sugar'
When they aren't being 'mean' to each other they are the ultimate softies. The kids complain about it, but there's something so pure and precious about seeing their dad smile, about seeing him cup Hal's cheeks and watch Hal sigh without even realizing it, leaning into the touch and the way Bruce's eyes just melt and soften in the sweetest way and genuine adoration pours from him
Bruce is usually better dressed (in general but also referencing the weather) but Hal is always the one to tuck his jacket around his shoulders (even though he's always cold) and Bruce then just hugs him so they're both warm
Hal plants a flower next to Martha and Thomas's graves to remember his grandfather
They have the most serious game of Footsie going on that has ever existed
Clark was jealous of them at first because he thought Hal was stealing his Best Friend and he genuinely shed tears of joy when Bruce looked at him very flatly and went "Clark. We are fucking." He threw a party and everything. Hal went and brought a present and laughed so hard he cried, but he isn't sure if he shouldn't have been more offended too
One of Bruce's first wedding gifts to Hal was a small cabin on a lake and whenever Hal seems particularly stressed they go out and fish and spend a weekend together, just them, and it takes Bruce years to realize that sometimes Hal just pretends to be stressed because he notices that Bruce is and Bruce won't ever take a vacation for himself but he will do it for Hal
Bruce is wider than Hal in terms of like broad shoulders, but Hal is a few inches taller and he uses that advantage to smooch Bruce on the forehead- especially early in the morning when Bruce is half asleep and slurping his coffee and looking adorable
Barry and Oliver took Bruce out the night before his wedding and Selina and Harley took Hal out and that night is the only secret between them that they will take to their graves
Hal has trouble with his memories because of all the space travel he does and the jet lag and Trauma and all that jazz and Bruce is burdened with Perfect memory, so sometimes when they're both being insomniac and can't sleep and nightmares are too bad, Bruce will just start reciting memories for them, of them, good and sometimes bad but mostly good and Hal will curl up in his arms on the couch and they'll just stay like that until they fall asleep. (Like their own version of True or Not True)
The first child to 'like' Hal was Duke and he is BatLantern's child. (A quote I still haven't managed to work into a fic- "You're so in love with him you look ridonkulous." Bruce pinched the bridge of his nose, frowning hard. "Babydoll, please never use that word again." ) [I say 'like' because he and Hal have the most aggressive relationship out of any of the Batkids+Hal. They are ruthless to each other and they both love it]
It took Damian the longest to warm up to him- not because of any particular reasons to do with Talia or anything like that, but just because he wants his father to be truly happy and he's seen that fail so much before (very notably with his own mother) so he remains on guard until one day- with nothing in particular- he and Bruce are working on something in the Cave downstairs and Hal just appears, carrying a tray of food, slips a mug of fresh coffee into Bruce's hand, runs a hand over his hair and kisses his forehead before leaving again. And it's that small thing- supporting him while also not infringing on his time and space for too long and letting him live his own life- that sells Damian on the Lantern
Bruce used to play piano and has a very beautiful singing voice, and Hal plays guitar so sometimes they sneak into Martha's parlor (I say sneak because in times like these they feel very much like teenagers, messing around while the parents are just downstairs and they feel In Love and Free) and play songs together
Bruce is more often than not the top but they switch frequently and neither has that much of a preference they just love making the other one feel good. (The need to Provide/getting off on each others pleasure is Strong in BatLantern)
Hal buys Bruce flowers whenever and wherever he can. He just loves to. He was raised to be a gentleman and go to the ladies door with a bouquet of flowers and all that, so even years into their marriage he still sometimes shows up and rings the doorbell with flowers and asks if he can take Bruce out someplace nice
(and Bruce, who was raised feeling that flowers are only something people give to the dead, because that's the only reason he'd ever brought or gotten flowers, loves it.)
Hal is a sucker for pretty jewelry- I have a hc that the way Lantern's can summon their rings they can summon any type of jewelry- so Bruce buys him expensive necklaces and rings and everything and anything he wants
Hal wants to get a dog when they first start living together and creates an entire slideshow the way he did for his parents when he wanted a dog when he was younger and gives the whole presentation while Bruce is nodding seriously and taking notes and then at the end he got up, kissed him and laughed saying 'Love, are you really asking me if we can get another stray? Because I have eight children. Commit is not my problem'
(the dog is named Lilac and she is buried beside Ace and Alfred and Hal sobs for three days but he can't help but feel proud because although by now he's been married to Bruce for a while, his dog was buried alongside Bruce and his children's pets, and it's just another way he belongs)
Hal, who doesn't have roots anywhere and is always moving, always shifting, changing, bouncing not only between apartments but entire planets and galaxies and is never stationary even when he is "home" and is a chaos junkie who flies planes and Bruce, who has only ever really lived in one place all his life and who has eight children and two parents in the earth behind his home, who has plans to be buried beside them and has never once considered anything else to be Home and would never dream of living anywhere else
This is honestly why BatLantern are my favorite ship besides BatCat- because they're believable and can have a stable romantic relationship that includes the whole jazz of living together and etc without needing either or both of them to make a huge sacrifice- like Clark? I get the Superbat stuff, but Clark belongs to Metropolis and Bruce belongs to Gotham and sure they can travel between the two cities and sleep over at each others houses but... its just not the same.
Anyway! That's all I have off the top of my head, if you wanted something more specific I gotchu just lemme know I frickin love these guys, and uh yea! Hope you enjoyed<3
