Part 3:

The recording fizzled a bit as it started which was the first indicator that this was not a recording taken in the cave like the other one. The cameras there are much more advanced.

But the biggest indicator was probably the nice decor the video was showing Jason, despite it being around 3 AM when the video was recorded.

He recognizes the room as one of the manor’s sitting rooms not to far from the main entrance.

For now it seemed to be empty, but Jason had a feeling it wouldn’t stay that way for much longer. He can already hear faint footsteps through.

Bruce storms in. Quite literally so as he looks as though he’s been walking through a thunderstorm and was still dripping water onto the floor.

He wasn’t in his Batman attire. He also wasn’t in a suit. He wore a simple black turtleneck and sweatpants. He was clearly not taking care of himself as well, if the bags under his eyes had anything to say.

He still looked terrible, the recent injuries from fight with Clark had barely healed yet.

Speaking of Clark he came in close after Bruce seemingly frantic.

„Bruce, please listen!“

Bruce started to put wood into the fire place.

“C’mon, Bruce. Please! It was a mistake, please listen to me!”

But Jason’s father only grabbed a box of matches and started a flame. That was a good idea he should get himself warm.

“I didn’t mean to, Bruce! Really! This is just a misunderstanding!”

Bruce took off his turtle neck and put it aside.

He had a stern look on his face. One that forced even Jason to wait and await Bruce’s judgment.

His Dad took a deep and suffering breath.

“Don’t lie to me.”

“What? No! I’m not lying, Bruce! I swear!”

“Really, you’re not lying?” Bruce was angry, his voice took on a bitter tone. His gaze became steel.

“You tell me you didn’t mean to ignore Alfred the entire week?! Hell not even only that! You ignored Dick too! I know that they have been calling you! As well as me! Because you just took off to good knows where and haven’t been home since you arrived in the garden an hour ago!”

“I’m so sorry, but I was not thinking straight!” Clark pleaded “I needed some space to get my head together”

Jason could admit that guilt was written all over Clark, but if it was up to Jason he’d look a whole lot more sorry and guilty.

“You needed to get you head together?! That is such a great reason to ignore your family and stay at a colleagues house! Dick doesn’t want to see me, so you are currently the only parental figure he’d accept right now? But you weren’t there!“

Jason doesn’t think he‘s ever seen his Dad so close to tears

„And I didn’t even know that you weren’t off somewhere in the galaxy until Lois gave me a heads up that you’re coming home! You are right with only one thing! You weren’t thinking!“

Bruce turned away from Clark

“Bruce please, you’ve got to understand!” Clark was pleading

“You gotta know that I never signed up for any of this!” Clark isn’t gonna say what Jason thinks he’s gonna say. Is he?

“You gotta understand why I might need a break from your family in such a situation”

Holy shit!

Clark didn’t just-

But he did

“EXCUSE ME?” Bruce was furious “A break from MY family?! Not OUR? As if you haven’t been living with the boys and me! You’re also their family!”

“Well it’s not my name in the adoption papers, is it!”

“You know that doesn’t matter! It doesn’t work that way!”

“Well the law says it works that way!”

“So since the law says so you aren’t family? ”

Jason could tell Bruce was suppressing tears. Clark though, in his angered state wouldn’t be able to do the same. Even if he did Jason wasn’t sure he’d care.

“No! I’m not- I- can’t- don- I don’t carry that kind of responsibility”

“So you aren’t family at all! And you don’t want to be??? You don’t want to be my family?”

“No- I-“

Clark took a deep breath and answered

“I guess I don’t”

Sorry I'm crawling under a rock after that anon.

But out of curiosity and because I'm already mortified so I might as well make it worse for myself, what do you mean by not wanting to read what you're writing?

I don’t read in the areas that I’m currently writing because I don’t want to get distracted, lose motivation, or be accused of plagiarism. So right now, because I’m writing DC, I’m reading in another fandom entirely. That’s a hard rule for me.

Autism is a largely complex condition. It is largely genetic, with over half of the genetic material linked to it coming from the father.

Damian is his only blood-related child.

He notices quickly that Damian is just like him. Too much like him. Sometimes, it’s like staring in a mirror and seeing his younger self instead of his reflection.

It’s a different time now, and people are more accepting than they ever were; the chances of Damian being treated the way he was are zero, especially with him around to protect his son. He knows this, yet his hands shake as he tucks them into his pockets, watching as Damian babbles on about a self-interest of his.

He watches, he always watches, to see how his children interact with Damian. Always ready at a moment's notice to jump in and meditate, to explain away the strange habits Damian has formed.

He doesn’t have to.

His children also watch, then adjust, and then they accept him.

So… easily.

When Damian has an emotional outburst from being overstimulated by his siblings, instead of snapping at him or giving him the silent treatment, they allow him to de-stress, then apologize for pushing him over the edge. They don’t rant and rave about how he needs to get off his high horse like with him

When Damian shrinks away from physical touch, they respect his boundaries and don’t push him. They don’t snark about how he thinks he’s too good for their touch like with him

When he’s up in the late hours of the night from insomnia, they stay by his side and comfort him. They don’t tell him to go back to bed and leave him with a hollow feeling like with him

He knows it’s childish, stupid, and wholly immature, but his heart clenches and his stomach twists itself into a nasty knot.

It’s not fair.

Why can his children understand that Damian’s brain is wired differently, but when it comes to him-

Bruce always cuts his thoughts off there. He would never want to breed resentment in his heart for any of his children, especially Damian. He’s glad that Damian is getting all the love and accommodations that he needed but never got.

He’s ecstatic watching the young boy grow and thrive in areas where he still feels unsteady and unsure. He knows Damian will take the world by storm and be a billion times better than he ever was

Bruce knows that he is simply too much of a problem, a burden, to be correctly loved. He keeps hoping and hoping like a stupid child that someone will love him unconditionally

He finds himself drifting away, keeping to himself, and locking himself away in his bedroom or office. He can control all his hurt, pain, longing, and sorrow.

It hurts too much

But once again, all he gets are texts demanding he stop being so selfish and making everything about him. He doesn’t know why they’re mad at him this time; he honestly doubts that they know why they’re mad

It’s his place in their lives

Damian has autism and needs accommodations. Bruce is a bastard who needs to stop acting so fucking weird and just listen to what he’s told.

Do you think people in a main SuperBat would assume Bruce and Clark (also Batman and Superman) are a vanilla couple who do vanilla romantic things and have vanilla sex. If so, how would they prove those ppl wrong

Everyone assumes Clark/Supes is the tames most vanilla guy ever, who only makes love under the covers and with lights turned off.

In reality, Clark is the kinkiest motherfucker there is, and he often finds new kinks to try out.

Bruce is freaky too, but he's also a huge romantic, so he loves gentle love making after a nice, classic date with dinner and movie.

When other people learn about this, they never believe it at first and think they're joking.

Hal: Come on, you practically wear a gimpsuit!

Bruce: Excuse me?!

Clark: Don't listen to him. It's very sexy, your ass looks great in it, but it's clearly an armor.

Jason, index finger up in front of his brother's face: What have YOU done, besides mope around and bitch up at anything Terry does?!

Dick:...

Jason: That's what I thought. Now, if you excuse me. I need to kick Terry away because I want my dad to take me to eat Bat burgers.

Dick:

Terry (Jason had been screaming the entire time, so everyone in the cave was hearing him), terrified, whispering without turning away from the screen: Your children are so weird...

Bruce, side eyeing at Jason getting closer, whispering back: Oh. Trust me, son. I know.

Terry, first time being called "son" by him: oh.

Bruce, thinking he fucked up: oh.

Jason: DAD I'M HUNGRY! GET UP AND BUY ME SOMETHING NICE!!

Dick smirked and crossed his arms "You can say it, you know?"

Clark, Superman scratched the back of his neck and floated next to him. "It's just-"

"He IS my dad, Supes"

Clark smiled, soft and proud, looking down to the Earth. "He is."

They stood there for a while. Floating in space and looking down the planet they promised to protect.

"Has he ever seen this view?"

"A couple of times. But never without a suit"

"I see... He would love this"

"He would. I should have brought him when-"

Dick turned around at the sudden silence. "There will be other chances."

"Will there?"

Dick shrugged. "Maybe not. But there's no worth if we keep thinking in what ifs" He looked back at the planet. "There's so, so, SOOO many what ifs that I have with my dad" He noticed the way Clark flinched. He sighed "That's one of them. What if I never fought it? What if I had accepted his love as fathernal from the beginning?"

"You were a hurting kid"

"Yeah. But then I wasn't. And now everyone gets so uncomfortable, so awkward whenever I-... I hate Tim"

"Dick..."

"No. Bad choice of words" He took a deep breath "I love my brother. But I'm jealous of Tim"

They floated until their supervision told them they were right above Wayne Enterprises. Dick used his temporary powers to watch as Tim knocked Bruce's door and entered with a pair of coffees in hand.

"He's always been so... Open about it"

"He has his own issues"

"Yeah, yeah" he waved off "self deprecation and what not. I know. I'm talking about his eagerness to be his son"

"..."

"He's just-" he pointed with an open hand, knowing that Clark was capable of seeing the same. "Just so -" Tim walked around the huge table, leaving the coffees aside and kneeling down next to where Bruce layed over his paperwork. He tilted his head, smiling, and lifted a finger to poke at Bruce's sleeping cheek. "And he's always been that way. No matter how he thinks he's not worthy of the title, he carries it around"

"You all love Bruce"

"I know, Clark. I'm not doubting my love for my dad. It's that. That!" He pointed at him. "I wish people would react the same way they react to me calling him dad as they react to Timmy calling him so!"

"We will. Maybe you just need to... Insist?"

"Sure."

Silence in space is more uncomfortable than Dick had imagined. Clark sighed, shoulders dropping.

"... I didn't brought you here for this"

"You pulled the what if topic"

"... You brought B into conversation"

"No. You mentioned him first. I always bring B into- whatever" he laughed "Superwing is about to be over and I don't wanna die in space"

They moved slowly, Clark allowing him to enjoy the last minutes of power he had.

"Speaking of what ifs"

"Dick..."

"Why you never dated my dad?"

He cackled as Superman crashed against a billboard.

Ghostmaker, who doesn't give a single fuck about the Justice League or any superhero team and remains completely isolated from them, until the day he accidentally steps into the middle of a League reunion (he wanted to break into the Batcave, not his fault Bruce invites anyone to what should be his secret base) and realizes how easily he can annoy everyone just by interacting with Bruce and being himself

From then on, he occasionally shows up at the League's, Outsiders', and Batfamily's affairs just to have the pleasure of seeing everyone annoyed by him and his dynamic with Batman

Bruce doesn't really care at all, he just occasionally throws a "sorry for my guy" look and continues doing whatever he's doing

Dick, getting pulled back as he tries to throw his notepad to the man: Let me-! Just a little bit of murder!!

Wally, desperately asking for help with his eyes to Superman:

It's not something he's actually proud of - well, no. Lies. He's plenty proud of it -, but he found the perfect way to regain Bruce's attention over himself. It's selfish. And he's aware of it... That's it. He's selfish, and he knows it. Fuck it. Fuck everyone else. Fuck them all.

He beamed as he opened the office door. Bruce lifted his eyes and smiled at him. Tim dared to look smug, head over Bruce's lap.

"Dad!" He bounced on his heels.

Bruce froze. And slowly, oh so slowly, Dick saw the emotion filling his chest.

"Yes, chum?"

"Need to show you something. Have a second?"

Bruce looked down. He clearly couldn't see Tim's expression, because he would have already told his son to stop murderously glaring at the eldest. "I-"

"Come on, dad. It's going to be quick!" He smiled, moving away to make room for his dad to walk by.

"... Sure"

Tim gasped when Bruce's hand softly petted him away, reassuring him about quick returns.

Jason glared behind his book, slowly lowering it, and turning to face Bruce. Dick saw the exact moment his brother knew he had lost.

"... Hey, chum"

"Whatchu doing?" He swiftly moved between them two, pressing his cheek on Bruce's shoulder.

"Reading with Jaylad -"

"Boo! Can we watch a movie?"

Jason closed his book with a thud. "Listen here, you ass-"

Bruce pressed his fingers over Jason's forearm. "Love" he turned to Dick. "I'm reading with your brother-"

"But dad, I wanna watch the Iron Giant with you!" Bruce swallowed "Jay can also join!"

Bruce turned slow and robotically to his left. Jason scoffed. Dick threw his fists on the air, triumphant.

Dick practically jumped through the hallways. He thought of the chandelier, but as much as he thrusted Bruce's carpentry abilities, this manor had been a destroyed building, after all. He shrugged as he turned to the living room.

Bruce laid across the sofa. He opened his mouth to call upon him, when the head over Bruce's chest turned to face him.

Dark brown stared.

He closed his mouth with a click, and nodded to Cassandra before turning around and closing the door behind him

Dick's left eye twitched.

"Habibi, it's not going to take long"

"NO! Drake already warned me!"

"My love-"

"NO!"

Dick sighed, grabbing - the already old enough to not be throwing this much of a fucking tantrum - Damian from behind and lifting him towards Bruce.

"He can come too, dad!" He gave his best Richard Wayne® smile, and enjoyed the way Bruce's eyes filled with love. "We can always find another place where he can eat with us!" I'm a great brother. Praise me.

Bruce lifted his hand and pressed it against Dick's cheek. They ignored the disgusted face of the teenager still in the air.

He smirked, looking over Terry's shoulder. He opened his mouth-

"Dad?" Terry called over his shoulder without breaking eye contact. "What time we're leaving?"

Bruce turned to face him. Dick saw how he recomposed himself before answering.

"As soon as you are ready... Son"

Terry turned around, beaming. "Thank you for doing this with me, dad. I really need the paperwork done so I can be legal in this time period"

Fuck. He's good.

Bruce nodded.

And slowly, his eyes crinkled as the softest smile spread across his face.

"Thank you. For choosing to stay with us... Istead of traveling around."

Dick knew he reflected the same awestruck expression that Terry had on his face.

Bruce turned around to finish with his tie.

"Truce"

"... Truce"

The man stops twirling on the chair when the electrified escrima stick threatens too close to his neck skin.

"What are you doing here?"

"Why, hello"

"Where's Bruce?"

"It's been so long, Boy Wonder. How you been doing?"

"Answer, dammit!"

"I've been fine, thanks for asking"

Nightwing moves to press the weapon closer to Ghostmaker's neck, the white cladded man smiling with his half covered face.

"Khoa, stop antagonizing him" Bruce comes out of the shower with a towel covering his lower half, while drying his hair with another.

"Tati!!" Dick jumps to his side and opens his arms trying to cover the bigger man.

Bruce raises an amused eyebrow while Khoa cackles over the computer.

"Holy fuck, did not expect your kid to be such a... Kid" he pretends to clean a fake tear over his mask.

Bruce tilts his head over Dick's shoulder "Why are you here, anyway?"

Dick flinches "You didin't invite him..."

"No, I did not" He shakes his head. "I did notice he entered while I was in the showers, but didn't want to cut it short just to greet him"

Khoa makes a fake offended gasp "You could have gotten dressed" Dick mumbles.

"I didn't want you killing him" He pets Dick's messy black mane

"Nothing I haven't seen, anyway"

"Khoa..."

Dick just keeps staring at his dad's face. "How mad would you be-"

"Don't. Kill him."

"Just a little"

"Dick"

"Just a tiny death"

"Richard..."

"UGH!"

"You're such a-" Khoa shuts as he jumps away from an incoming batarang.

Nightwing and Bruce turn to the stairs.

"Shit. Did I miss? There's no way I've missed. How is he so fast?" Jason casually comes down.

Dick practically growls at him "You were announcing yourself all the way down!"

"Oh, bite me you Dickhe- WHY ARE YOU NAKED?!"

Bruce sighs as Jason takes off his jacket and forces it on him.

"You let him go around like this when there's an obsessive psycho in our surroundings?!"

"EXCUSE ME FOR NOT FORCING OUR OLD ASS OVER 50 MAN OF A FATHER INTO SOME CLOTHES!"

"NO, I DON'T EXCUSE YOU! You should known better-!"

Ghostmaker looks at the exchange, and then at Bruce. Bruce can tell he's being deeply judged. He stares, eyes empty and tired.

"I swear I tried my best. Don't know why they are this way."

Khoa just shakes his head and crosses his arms.

Something im obsessed with is Richard’s obsession with his father, lol. None of the batfam can be normal about anything, much less family, so I wonder what Dick (n probably the other kids too) feels when his father randomly drops lore.

Or it can just be Bruce dropping random lore to anyone and moving on. Just. . Batman’s lore which is 80+ years of story telling condensed in a 40 year old

Dick "I know my dad best" Grayson vs everyone on Bruce's past.

He has a list. The reasons for hating on Khoa might go from "He's an ex criminal" - which will get him an obnoxious eye roll from Tim or a cautious look from Jason - to "he betrayed Bruce".

The truth condenses to pure, unaltered, visceral jealousy.

He enters the manor with a grin. He hasn't come over in a while. He uses the spare key.

As soon as his bike helmet is off, he announces himself.

"Your favorite kid came!!" He wouldn't mind if Damian ran just to kick him in the stomach, Bruce's amusement is always worth the punishment. But nothing comes. Nothing but silence.

Did he confuse the dates? No. He confirmed with Bruce if they were to be home for today. He emptied his calendar.

After a few moments of silence, he steps inside the quietness.

There's a faint sound that he understands as voices. Down. The cave? It's too early. Something in the back of his brain tells him he won't like what he'll find.

Of course he doesn't listen to the warning.

He should have listened to the warning.

Bruce is sat on his chair, civil clothes on. Damian is cross-legged, on the floor in front of their dad, Jon is at his side. Both kids are looking up with eyes filled with stars. He might even find it adorable... If it wasn't for the man leaning on Bruce's space.

Ghostmaker moves his arms around as he retells the story.

"Jack was on the floor, he looked like shi- garbage."

"Father?"

"I was young, son"

"Someone bestest you?! You're BATMAN!!"

"I wasn't back then, Jon. And it wasn't someone"

"It was all the strongest guards and students!"

"What? Why?"

"Ok, little flea-"

"Hey-"

"I already told that part, so If you ain't going to listen-"

"Apologies, please keep going"

Dick keeps moving down. He doesn't want to admit he's also intrigued. Bruce's eyes subtly come to him, lips already turning upward. Damian must have noticed, by the way he tilts his head towards him, but the kid is too involved in whatever the white cladded man is saying.

"So I saw my opportunity and just jumped to action"

"You followed him"

"He followed you!!"

"He followed me" Bruce smiles. And Dick's stomach churns with anger.

"The important part here is that I saved his a- butt"

"That he did"

"I'm guessing you allowed him to follow you to your next destination, then."

"He had no other choice"

"I had no choice. He was going to be hunted as well. Chum." Bruce fully turns to him. And the smile on his face almost makes Dick forget he's angry.

Almost "If it isn't the first pup!" Khoa's grin has Dick gritting his teeth.

With no subtlety whatsoever, he pushes Ghostmaker far from Bruce's form, and perches at his neck. If he could still climb him he would... Fuck it.

He gloats at the deep laugh his father gives him as he tries to position his long body over Bruce's shoulder. He knows Khoa is rolling his eyes under the mask.

Jon laughs "He looks like a scarf!"

"Richard, you interrupted at the best part"

"Right! Mister Khan was telling us about Bruce's training years together!"

Dick's eye twitches at that. He had barely been able to make his dad talk about that time. The man usually avoids the topic.

"We can keep it up after dinner" Bruce pats Dick's head as he dead weights across his back. "I can hear your tummy rumbling"

Tummy rumbling. Dick doesn't have the heart to tell him those are his bowels acting up at seeing Ghostmaker after so long. He can eat with his dad even if his insides burn in acid. After all, he knows-

"Are you joining us?" He smirks at the man at Bruce's side.

"Nah. I have other things to do"

He knows Bruce must be making that sad kicked puppy face, but dammit if he appreciates Khoa's repulsion towards the manor.

He cheekily waves goodbye over Bruce's shoulder as they all climb up the stairs. Bruce doesn't see Khoa flipping him off.

Dick, looking out the window: You know...

Bruce, sipping his coffee: Mn?

Dick, turning to face him: I really miss being an only child

Bruce:

Literally the entire batfamily sitting next to them:

Dick, sighing: It was so fun

Bruce: Chum...

Jason, aiming the book in a dangerously looking way:

Tim, grabbing the pen like a knife:

Dick: And then you decided to keep on adding people to this house

Bruce: Chu- chum?!

Damian, about to break his cup with the border of the table:

Cass, cracking up her neck and knuckles:

Dick, turning back to the window: Sometimes I wish-

Duke, hand over Bruce's eyes: Hey, wanna go make some cupcakes?

Bruce, trying to ignore the screams and noise of broken things, looking up at the boy: Sure, sunshine. Let's go.

Dick rolls his eyes "Okaaaay daaad geez!" The teen stops turning to his bedroom and tilts his head. What did he say?

"I- If you- I don't mind..."

Fix this, FIX THIS! "Yeah, no. It sounded more sarcastic in my head"

"... Oh." Wrong move! He turns back to Bruce. The man is looking down. Shit shit shit.

"No, I don't mean that you aren't- I mean... You- you aren't -" Bruce's head downs more and more to the ground with every word "No, no, no! Ah! Listen! I-!"

"It's fine" he doesn't look at Dick

"B! Bruce! Sorry, I-"

"It's fine... Go to your room, Dick" Bruce looks up and smiles. "Let's talk tomorrow"

Dick runs away before he starts messing everything more. And they never talk about it again.

"I guess nowadays I can't call him pops as I used to" Jason nods to himself "but I started calling him that as soon as the papers were signed"

"Why would it be hard for you?" Dick turns back to Tim

"I- I had my parents so..." He closes his mouth. Tim is studying him, no judgement. But Dick still feels sick.

"Mmh. I guess so." Tim holds his own chin.

Dick smiles "You felt the same way?" He can see Jason joining them from the corner of his eye.

Tim frowns "Hell no!" Jason guffaws as he sits next to Tim "I saw an opening and started bombarding him with the word!"

Tim twists his lips. "Yeah... Looking back it was kinda rude to Jack to call B my dad so soon after meeting him"

Cass giggles at Damian taking off his shoe and throwing it a Tim's shoulder.

Steps on the stairs make them all turn their heads in unison.

"What are you all-" Bruce takes a second to blink. Dick sees his expression of 'god, I understand when the League calls them creepy', but it quickly goes away. Bruce clears his throat. "What are you kids up to?"

He steps down. The answers came in voices running over eachother, fighting to be heard.

Bruce's lips turn upwards. Oh, he's proud. Damn.

Dick feels the moment.

"Yo, pops" Jason raises up. Dick's mouth falls open. Bruce freezes, blinks and nods out of his momentary stupor. "Care to check this out?"

Dick grabs him by the ankle, making Jason trip and fall on his face. "YOU ASSHOLE"

Jason kicks his hand away "No I'm not! That shit hurts!!" He takes Bruce's hand to stand up. Tim is covering his mouth with both hands, shoulders shaking. Cass has turned around, probably to laugh as well. Damian's eyes are empty as he seems to contemplate killing them all. "Sorry for feeling emotionally vulnerable and taking the moment that was offered to me!" Jason dramatically presses a hand on his chest.

Tim falls back with a laugh. "It could have also been my moment!!" Dick stands up.

"Boys..."

"Then use it! It's not one per event you- you-!!" Jason looks around "I have nothing to throw at your face!!!"

"Oooh!! You know it wouldn't be the same!!" Dick seethes.

"This is so stupid" Damian sighs and moves between them to grab Bruce's hand. "Todd and I were working on this case" Bruce looks over his shoulder at them as he's dragged to the computers. "Nothing serious... Come on. Sit, baba"

"Well... There you have it" Jason points with his hand and walks to the duo.

Dick throws his head backwards with a growl and joins them. Behind him, he can hear the other pair mock them.

"Careful, dad! He's in a foul mood!"

Bruce slightly turns to them before Jason grabs his head with a hand and twists it back to the computers. "Scary big brother, dad"

Dick glares at them before standing next to Bruce's chair.

Bruce looks up. Slowly grabbing his hand. "It's okay, son"

Dick blinks. And everyone is quiet for a second before he throws himself to Bruce's neck. "Oh, dad!"

"Come. On!"

"Grayson, can you do that after baba checks this out?"

"He always ends up stealing the spotlight"

"Drama"

"Goldie! Let him go!"

Bruce takes a second to return the hug.

The manor is huge. Cold and huge. And terrifying at night. Did he mention how fucking huge-? Language. B hates when he curses. But it's his own head. B can't frown at him on his head... Still. No curses. No no.

"B?" He calls at a barely lit hallway. And the echo answers back. He tuts, and keeps searching forward.

He hears voices, so he follows them.

The door of Bruce's office is fully open and... That's the dick. He's not cursing. He introduced himself as that. And he might be cool and big and smart and the big brother he always wanted... But he makes B sad. And B makes pancakes and laughs at Jason's jokes and gives him a roof and a warm bed and kisses his forehead and puts silly bandaids on his bruises... How dare he make his da- Bruce sad?

Dick is yelling. Bruce isn't. Bruce should scream more. He gets so quiet, and Jason hates it.

B is normally quiet, but this is... A different quiet. A sad quiet.

Like the quiet when he comes back home after a rough night and takes Batman off and sits with his face hidden on the shadows and doesn't want to tell Jason what happened, but Jason knows, because he knows Gotham.

Like the quiet when he stands looking at the portrait at the entrance and Jason thinks he might cry, but he doesn't, and he smiles, but he's lying, and Jason knows, because Jason knows of loss and lies.

He hates it when Bruce gets that quiet.

But he learned that his hugs are healing. B told him that. So he just needs to hug him better.

So he enters the room. And the dick turns to watch him, so he sticks his tongue out. Dick's face goes red when he lifts his arms, without a word, and Bruce kneels, opening his own. And Jason knows that face. Because he knows he makes the same one whenever the dick makes B laugh and smile and look so proud. Because Jason knows of jealousy. Dick and B have a longer history. But now he is here, so the dick has to suck it and fucking dea-! Curses. Bad. Bad.

Bruce is warm. He loves his da- Bruce's chest. Is big, and warm and he gets so comfortable. He might as well sleep.

Their voices feel so far away when Bruce strokes his back and kisses his nape.

"There, Jaylad. Let's go to bed"

Jason loves that nickname. He smiles against the smell of expensive softener. He might as well sleep.

i want bruce to be hurt so badly that, even when his family realizes they fucked up and come back, there’s something genuinely broken about him. there’s a disconnect between him and his feelings; not him attempting repression but him actually having cut the bridge. that last fight, that last door slamming shut, that last “off” period between him and his family, it sent him into a spiral of depression until he landed firmly in apathy.

oh, he still cares. he still loves gotham, fights for her, bleeds for her, feels for her. but when it’s a question of anyone loving him? ha! that almost made him twitch his lips. he’s lost in his head with self hatred, unable to believe he could be loved.

he feels mechanic in his movements, but even roombas are loved. then again, they’re also useful. he just- well. he just rots in his own body.

he doesn’t understand their attempts at bonding; they don’t need to put all this effort into pretending. he knows already, that their affection and worry is fake. they don’t need to try talking to him, especially not when he’s so awful at it. they don’t need to wrap themselves around him when he knows he’s disgusting to touch.

they’re being weird, and bruce is patiently waiting them out until the other shoe drops. if they feel less guilty by pretending to like him, then that’s fine by him. they’ll give up soon enough, like they always do. at least he’s not choking on his own hope that maybe this time it will last. at least this time, he knows he’s just temporary.

don't be too loud around the bedroom wing; Hal's probably space-lagged af, he might cry in frustration if woken up or actually just punch you in the throat

but after he takes a long nap, be warned of cuddles!! he will be very affectionate to everyone, especially Bruce, but nothing untoward. prepare your life updates list because he WILL want to hear how you've been since he was home

and Hal will likely insist on cooking nice because he feels bad for being away so much, and might even have souveniers

🟡 = Hal is back but on duty

shit might go down so wait if it's a distress call or what

unlikely to need just the family's help, be on guard
