How to be a Wali:

A Shaykh said “If you wish to be a Wali [Friend of Allahﷻ] change your character into the character of children.”

“Why?” he was asked.

“Children have five qualities” he answered, “and if adults had these same qualities, they would attain the rank of the Awliyaa:

1. They do not worry about their daily provision. 2. When they fall sick they do not complain night and day about their misfortune. 3. Whatever food they have, they share. 4. When they fight or quarrel, they do not keep grudges in their hearts, but make up quickly. 5. The slightest threat makes them frightened and brings tears to their eyes.”

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ (1) وَوَضَعْنَا عَنْكَ وِزْرَكَ (2) الَّذِي أَنْقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ (3) وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ (4) فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا (5) إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا (6) فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانْصَبْ (7) وَإِلَى رَبِّكَ فَارْغَبْ (8)

In the name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy Did We not relieve your heart for you, and remove the burden that weighed so heavily on your back, and raise your reputation high? So truly with hardship there is always ease; truly with hardship there is always ease. So when you are free, work on, and make your Lord your primary concern.

Abu Bakr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “You must be truthful, for it is alongside righteousness and they are both in Paradise. Beware of falsehood, for it is alongside wickedness and they are both in the Hellfire. Ask Allah for wellness, for no one is given anything better after conviction than wellness. Do not envy each other, do not hate each other, do not cut each other off, and do not turn away from each other. Be servants of Allah as brothers.”
