I’ve been thinking a lot about Halo wars 2 lately and one of the problems is that my mind tries to connect the dots about stuff I don’t fully know yet so I had a dream there was an elaborate cutscene about atriox hiring grunts to work for him and the lead grunt was really sassy and atriox hates him and the grunt became a DLC leader and a fan favorite

Thinking about Halo Wars 2 and its related fiction - specifically Hunters in the Dark - y’know what would’ve made sense?

If 343 explained humanity’s sudden technological resurgence in the mere four-and-a-half years between Halo 3 and 4 by revealing that ONI gained control of the Retriever Sentinels after Tragic Solitude’s demise and used them to harvest resources and technology.

Tying that in with the idea that I posited last month to replace the Guardians with Retriever Sentinels, that effectively sets the stage for ONI to be the antagonists in Halo 5 as they turn the Retrievers into more of an offensive tool and start using them to harvest actual colonies and they cover it up by claiming Forerunner shenanigans - which is made believable because the Retrievers invaded and almost harvested Earth back in 2554, so nobody is really going to look at humanity and blame them for it.

Tie this in with humanity’s schism as the New Colonial Alliance finally enters the stage and declares war on the UNSC and you effectively pay off a lot of the build-up in the pre-H5 fiction.
