Am I the only who thinks about the absolute insanity that was the writers/directors/whatever of 15x20 deciding to use “The Night We Met” as the teaser song for the episode? Like, they obviously used it to gaslight us into thinking that Cas was coming back, but the fact that they tried to connect it back to Dean and Sam? Wild. Absolute lunacy. The night when Dean and Sam met when? As children? When Dean picked him up at Stanford? When did either of them have “all, and then most of you, some, and now none of you” in regards to each other? It might be my way of coping to say that I find it all so funny, but I really do find it all so funny.

My experience with the “Lamp Theory”

I think the funniest thing I’ve ever done since joining the S*pn fandom is come up with the “Lamp Theory” all on my own while watching the beginning of season 13. I was like, “holy crap, look at the lighting in this scene compared to the rest of the episode! I bet no one else has noticed this! I’m a genius!” And I was convinced that I was going to construct the most amazing essay ever (because I thought it was a bit of a reach myself) so that no one could dispute it, and I was going to post it on this site, and revolutionize the fandom. Then I saw that y’all were more insane than me and had already connected this theory to like 40 different episodes, three different existing theories, and predicted several plot-points based on it. Funnier still, was that you had decided it was just as insane and far fetched as I had, but just kept going with it.

It’s just… shaking and sobbing because I’d always heard “Dean believed in Heaven once Heaven believed in him,” and I had believed it but I’d never thought of the actual evidence behind it that makes it so much more brilliant and profound.

In the beginning of the fourth season, Dean was in the most delicate state of mind that he had been in this far, and the entirety of “Lazarus Rising” had forced him to put his trust in people after being tortured and traumatized for DECADES. As such, not only his physical, but mental state depended on him figuring out how and why he had been brought back from Hell, and the only thing that could have shattered him even further was the revelation that angles existed and then he had specifically been brought back because of the will of Heaven. This was the only thing that had somehow managed to break through the incredibly performative mannerisms that he had taken on through the the episode to make it appear that he was “normal” after coming back from Hell. Yet, while his mannerisms change, his emotional walls are somehow built up higher, and so he doesn’t believe that Cas is in angel after the insurmountable amounts of proof that had been handed to him.

This is entirely because his faith in the divine had never been contingent upon how much physical proof he had, but based on how much emotional proof he had. Dean had never believed in the divine because he never believed something could love him the way that his mother had described the divine would, and therefore, he could never put his faith in. He had been betrayed by the very thing that he mother had sworn would protect him, and so being able to accept its existence would have always been about how he felt instead of evidence. This is why he is only able to accept that Heaven existed once he and Cas had gained even the slightest bit of rapport. He saw the way that some angels could gain the same emotional connection that he could, and related to this and was able to trust this.

I just cannot stop thinking about this. YES, it has all been said before, but it’s 1 AM where I am, and I am so tired, so you’re getting my deranged and repetitive rants.

Do you ever fall in love with a character, but only the version of them from specific fanfics? Like, I barely pay attention to the canon version of the character, but the one from the fic I’m reading? Immaculate, amazing, they are everything to me.
