the most beautiful thing i've ever seen :')
Whumpees held captive by self-sustaining, off-the-grid hunters.
Constant threats of becoming compost for the vegetable garden. Hunting knives designed to skin. Deer hooks in smokehouses. Bone saws normally used on antlers, but perfect for severing the offending feet off of a runaway. And even if they do run, Whumpee won’t get away. Whumper knows these surrounding woods like the back of their hand, and they’ve been tracking their own food for most of their life. Whumpee doesn’t stand a chance out here. They know that.
People of color in the whump community, how do you feel about POC characters?
(I know some people take issue with the term "person of color", I'm using it for convenience here, but this poll applies to anyone who considers themself nonwhite. Feel free to add specifics about your identity in the tags.)
(If you're white, scroll down for the results button and please reblog for sample size.)
?
I like seeing POC in whump regardless of their role or other characters' race
I only like it if both the whumper and whumpee are POC
I only like POC whumpers
I only like POC whumpees
I don't like seeing POC in whump at all
I don't have a strong opinion, do whatever you want
It's complicated (explain in reblog/tags)
I'm white but I want to see results
I'm curious about how people view nonwhite characters in whump. On one hand, diversity is a good thing. On the other hand, violence against a character of color could trigger people, and a character of color as the whumper could play into racial stereotypes. This also depends on the specific race of the characters-- obviously, POC are not a monolith-- but there aren't enough poll options for that.
I'd really appreciate hearing people's thoughts, especially people of color in the whump community! Please reblog this to spread it around!
me every time I post something
You know what? I don't give enough credit to comforting actions paired with violent ones. I'm not talking about after either, I mean soft touches while hurting whumpee
A knife in one hand and the other stroking whumpee's back
tying whumpee in an uncomfortable position and petting their hair
injecting a sedative/poison and singing a lullaby
putting a blade through whumpee while hugging them <3
a hand on their cheek and the other around their throat
crawling is so fun I should write it more. Whumpees dragging themselves foward in a desperate and probably doomed attempt to get away from something.
the panicked scrambling backwards they do when they're startled <3
the stubborn inching towards an exit they'll never reach
crawling not because of an injury but exhaustion, their body giving up while they still haven't :]
Todays vibe is whumpees who bite. It’s fun when they’re backed into the corner, all other methods of fighting back taken away from them, and the only way they can think to fight is to sink their teeth into the hand reaching towards them.
Or maybe the whumpee is tied to a table surrounded by people (maybe receiving medical care, maybe something painful), and someone brushes their hand just a little too close to the whumpee’s face…
(Been in a “muzzled because they wouldn’t stop biting” sort of mood lately too)
Found this on Twitter, so I thought, why not posting it here and doing a tag game 😊
Ok, I’ll go first

Jailed for being unnecessarily nice to a Facebook marketplace buyer who swarmed me with questions about a painting I’m selling when the answers were all in the description AND the post she linked to me.

JAILED?! For hiking up my first mountain (Dutch mountain), being absolutely knackered having climbed all 82 meters and wheezing to the top of the observation point?! Outrage.
Jailed for calling this absolute flat landscape a mountain I guess. I could literally see my town 30km away. I don't know how you hikers do this.

Kirsten, my friend, what you’re referring to is what we Americans call a Hill. I drive roads right up those things ;3 /lh
Um anyway I have been jailed for accidentally taking screenshots of my lock screen while trying to turn my phone on.
It’s cropped for having personal texts and also my whole got dam face, but yes my lock screen is me giving my fiancé a forehead kiss, thank you very much. A shame, if this was my third picture you could have seen my wedding dress ;P

Hi boa

Low level/continuous pain tips for writing
Want to avoid the action movie effect and make your character’s injuries have realistic lasting impacts? Have a sick character you’re using as hurt/comfort fodder? Everyone has tips for how to write Dramatic Intense Agony, but the smaller human details of lasting or low-level discomfort are rarely written in. Here are a few pain mannerisms I like to use as reference:
General
Continuously gritted teeth (may cause headaches or additional jaw pain over time)
Irritability, increased sensitivity to lights, sounds, etc
Repetitive movements (fidgeting, unable to sit still, slight rocking or other habitual movement to self-soothe)
Soft groaning or whimpering, when pain increases or when others aren’t around
Heavier breathing, panting, may be deeper or shallower than normal
Moving less quickly, resistant to unnecessary movement
Itching in the case of healing wounds
Subconsciously hunching around the pain (eg. slumped shoulders or bad posture for gut pain)
Using a hand to steady themself when walking past walls, counters, etc (also applies to illness)
Narration-wise: may not notice the pain was there until it’s gone because they got so used to it, or may not realize how bad it was until it gets better
May stop mentioning it outright to other people unless they specifically ask or the pain increases
Limb pain
Subtly leaning on surfaces whenever possible to take weight off foot/leg pain
Rubbing sore spots while thinking or resting
Wincing and switching to using other limb frequently (new/forgettable pain) or developed habit of using non dominant limb for tasks (constant/long term pain)
Propping leg up when sitting to reduce inflammation
Holding arm closer to body/moving it less
Moving differently to avoid bending joints (eg. bending at the waist instead of the knees to pick something up)
Nausea/fever/non-pain discomfort
Many of the same things as above (groaning, leaning, differences in movement)
May avoid sudden movements or turning head for nausea
Urge to press up against cold surfaces for fever
Glazed eyes, fixed stare, may take longer to process words or get their attention
Shivering, shaking, loss of fine motor control
If you have any more details that you personally use to bring characters to life in these situations, I’d love to hear them! I’m always looking for ways to make my guys suffer more write people with more realism :)
This is good stuff!
trying to write moodboard
let your whumpee go a little crazy. i'm a sucker for the laughter bordering on hysterical, the one hand rapidly coasting through bloodied hair, the dilated pupils and heavy breathing and uncontrollable shuddering, they don't know the time, they can't see the sky, and it's driving them completely and utterly mad.
medical malpractice? not to me. not if it’s you.
Whump Prompt 279
Whumpee that’s used as a power source for a ship/machine. They’re hooked up through painful restraints and wires holding them in place, and no matter how much they scream or beg, they’re ignored and treated as an object while it feels like the life is drained out of them.
Maybe one of the operators takes pity on them, trying to make the experience easier by bringing Whumpee good food or clean clothes. None of it matters, however. Whumpee knows that whether they’re content or miserable, the operators will never disconnect them.
Isn’t this literally what happens to Anders in Battlestar Galactica? And the other Hybrids?
let me dig this bullet out of your shoulder in the most homoerotic way possible. that’s crucial to the healing process. i know what i’m doing
one in your thigh and abdomen as well? say less
its because youre always on that damn autopsy table
(for science) members of the Whump Community, were you a theatre kid?
yes. 100%.
no, but I've been in a show or two
no, I've never done theatre
no, and I don't want to ever be associated with theatre kids
no, but I was theatre-adjacent (band, choir, art club)
