Portrait of the once queen of Naboo. Taken in the year Padme Naberrie Amidala ascended office as representative of Naboo in the Galactic Senate. The senator is represented in the colors of her home and holding flowers that grow in the same region. The artist depicts the senator in a gown that recalls in ones minds the gowns she wore during her tenor as queen. Scholars agree that the painting was intended to build support for the political career of the new Naboo senator, as many recall her time as queen positively. However, scholars debate over the usage of some symbols within the painting, such as the poignant meaning of the flowers the senator holds and the usage of the pearls along the senators collar, an accessory typically associated with Naboo wedding cloths. Such symbols are more commonly associated with traditional Naboo sonnets of tragic lovers.

RIP Marjane Satrapi, author of the amazing graphic novels Persepolis about living during the fundamentalist revolution in Iran in the 70’s and 80’s. She also created the animated movie based on the graphic novels, which is where these gifs come from.
