we don't credit rebecca sugar enough for making the episode with the first gay wedding in a kids show extremely plot relevant so it could not be skipped or cut.
#rebecca sugar has gone on record saying that they knew from the beginning they wanted ruby and sapphire and they put every inch of planning#in to make sure that the studio could not take them out. sugar has said they’d compromised on hundreds of things they’d wanted for steven#so that they had the bargaining power specifically to keep ruby and sapphire’s relationship#and a number of ‘filler’ episodes were created just to establish counter-arguments that might come up when they pitched the wedding episode#the one that comes to mind is the episode about steven and connie getting lost in rose’s room steven’s central conflict about liking their#fave book series’ romantic ending was later weaponised when producer’s were like ‘oh but steven’s a boy he won’t be too interested in them#getting married’ sugar was able to be like ‘no. in this episode it’s established he loves romance and specifically weddings. and in these#episodes it’s shown how much steven cares about ruby and sapphire and their relationship and happiness. you cannot convince me this is not#good and necessary plot development#and they wrapped it up in the season finale and the big climactic point of the diamonds finally coming to attack earth to make the#episode integral to the series no skipping it without confusion. and had ruby wear a wedding dress because international censors took#advantage of her design to give her a masculine va#and sugar made certain that everybody knew This was a queer love story that an entire town supported and admired and that any child watchin#it at home would know they are not alone and that that support is waiting for them out there somewhere#sugar sacrificed the wider story they wanted to tell for that and it was a horrible decision to be given but they made the right choice
you can post on tumblr even when you're trying to take a break from social media it literally doesn't count. it's like pepsi max, or pescatarianism

On this day, 17 June 1926 Eve’s Hangout, a New York underground queer and radical cafe run by Eve Adams, was raided by police. Adams was born Chawa Zloczower in Poland to a Jewish family in 1891. A lesbian bar, it was host to a number of meetings, poetry nights, and a safe haven for radicals in Greenwich village. The proprietor, Adams, cut a scandalous figure having open lesbian relationships and eschewing what at the time was traditional women's wear. She was a well known associate of anarchists and had made her living in the US through collecting subscriptions to anarchist and socialist papers. The cafe would be targetted by landlords and police and was eventually raided on June 17. Adams was arrested and many queer and radical texts were destroyed including Adams' own Lesbian Love. She would be found guilty for "obscenity" and deported. She then lived in France where she would continue to sell radical publications and fall in love with Jewish cabaret singer Hella Olstein. Adams and Olstein were both arrested in Nice in 1943 and sent to Auschwitz where they were murdered. Pride Flag Quilt Top
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH EVERYBODY!!! I recently finished this pride flag quilt top, which I'll be displaying at my local pride event next week!
I wanted each block to be different and eye catching in its own way, so that you don't get bored looking at bland stripes. This project is a labor of love. I did the math on piecing nearly every block, save for the house block on the bottom right corner. That came from a book. I went through quite a struggle doing all the math to make the blocks that are split diagonally by color. Those were the ones that took me the longest to get through. The regular solid color rainbow blocks? I flew through those in two days, lol!
I'll share closeups below the cut:
On this day 84 years ago (22 June 1941), Nazi Germany began its invasion of the USSR. The Soviets would eventually emerge victorious, but this came at a cost of millions of lives. It is estimated that around 27 million Soviet citizens died in the course of this horrible war, around 1/3 being in the military and the rest being civilians, who were deliberately targeted for extermination by the Nazis as part of the genocidal Generalplan Ost. They were ordinary innocent people who deserved to live in peace but had their lives cruelly destroyed by fascist invaders who viewed them as subhuman.
On this day, please remember them.
