the problem with food safety discourse is that like. yes the amount of x chemical in a consumer product may be negligible. but that standard for negligibility is determined downstream of very powerful corporate lobbying groups insisting that their products are safe. the steep increase of weird allergies among the American population may well be related to increased exposure to any number of these chemicals and it’s really frustrating that there seems to be a strict binary of either “science is fake and only magic crystals shoved up your coochie can cure your allergies” or “the FDA’s standards for food safety are unquestionable and anyone who reacts to the chemicals they say are fine, no you don’t”.

the other thing is that regulatory agencies work differently like the FDA famously requires you to prove that something is harmful whereas many agencies actually require you to prove that something is safe. like. this matters
