Someone explain the thing about Overwatch banning people for using a single character?
It’s a rather complicated situation. You are, in fact, allowed to one trick according to the rules. In practice it’s harder to say. Blizzard has an report auto-ban system (they say it’s not autoban but at this point, all evidence has shown that it’s probably automated), and after a set number of reports, you will get banned.
Awhile ago, a number of off meta players and onetricks (namely Sym and Torb players) were getting banned and no one knew why. Eventually, two streamers that were reasonably well known, Stevo and Fuey500, got banned on stream. After that it became clear that people were reporting off meta onetricks to get them banned, and there was a huge debate on whether or not it was bannable.
Blizzard was giving mixed messages, saying at one point one tricks and off meta was not bannable, but then said that if you don’t switch when your teammates asked you to, that was bannable, which confused everyone and kind of kicked off a “report torb and sym mains” mentality in the community.
Making it more confusing was that Fuey500 would continue to get autobanned, but then get his banned immediately revoked, but Stevo wouldn’t (and at that point both streamers began to stream every moment on those characters for transparency).
Blizzard finally made a statement that one tricking was not bannable much later, although some parts of the community like Competitve Overwatch Reddit were pissed. At this point, if you remember, blizzard made an announcement that you would get a “warning notification” if you got too close to a ban, most people assume it was because of how many one tricks were getting banned.
Both Stevo and Fuey are on some sort of whitelist, or at least, they get their accounts reviewed manually before getting autobanned and have never been banned since. This is, however, the only cases that seem to be like this because there are a few torb and sym mains I have seen state they are still getting banned, but they have little to no exposure, and for the most part, the anti one trick hysteria seems to have quieted.
That said, Jeff Kaplan seemed to have stir something up by calling some character niche, and saying one tricking is not playing fair or something, and Effect’s letter seems to be stirring up the pot again.
It’s, uh, a pretty heated debate

Stunt Women, Jessie Graff, owning the Emmys red carpet ❤ ❤
In case you missed it – this is American Ninja Warrior champion Jessie Graff (previously covered here) at the Emmys last week. She was also doing high kicks all down the red carpet.
vault-escape-artist i like to think about alistair and cullen training together but i mostly like to think about them in some chantry choir together and cullen is hitting every note and it’s beautiful enough to make the maker cry while alistair only knows half the words and the rest he just substitutes in what he wants for dinner
Thank you for this! (also i need more)

The guy who invented the theory that vaccines cause autism had his medical license revoked for it
thats ridiculous
they took it away because he came up with a seemingly plausible theory?
They took it away because other scientists have been unable to reproduce his results, his results were made up, he didn’t even get approved by an ethics committee, and now he’s risking the health and lives of a whole bunch of people
It’s not just that he came to incorrect conclusions, he falsified data on purpose, apparently because he had patented a related medical test and stood to make a lot of money off people using his test instead of vaccinating.
It’s crazy how this one person, in a study of only twelve children, gained so much traction in the world. He put this lie out there—and it was a lie, not just interpreting data incorrectly—and now it doesn’t even matter that he’s been proven totally false. Years of effort to reestablish the truth can’t undo the lie once it’s out there in the world. Hundreds of thousands of people believe that lie, and actual children are getting sick and dying because of it.
This is a really troubling aspect of how human minds work, and it’s something conservative politicians take advantage of on a regular basis. If you just say that “well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does“ is provide abortions, it doesn’t matter how often people recite the objective truth that abortions are a tiny fraction of Planned Parenthood services. You can say the truth 1000 times for every one time the lie is repeated, and thousands of people will still trust the lie.
I’d never heard this before, and it’s actually really helpful information to have, so thanks. Here is a scientific article by the American Academy of Pediatrics explaining the flaws in Wakefield’s research and briefly summarizing four studies that refuted the fraudulent claims. Here is an article by the editor-in-chief of the British Medical Journal calling him a fraud in no uncertain terms. Here is the first part of a nine-part investigative journalistic series, published in the BMJ, uncovering his fraud. And the General Medical Council conclusions that stripped Wakefield of his clinical credentials can be found here.
I’m honestly so mad right now reading about this guy. People are dying of measles right now because vaccinations fell off so sharply, and those deaths can be laid at the door of this man.
This man is a mass murderer
VACCINATE YOUR KIDS. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT VACCINATING HEALTHY CHILDREN.
NONE.
Your regular reminder that the entire anti-vaxx movement is founded and predicated on hatred and devaluation for autistic people and autistic lives. Never forget this, and remember to talk about it when you’re talking about anti-vaxxers.

The sound of a whistle called them back.
I have long said that in order for any comedy to truly succeed as a story, there has to be meat beneath the jokes. There has to be that moment when it is not funny any more.
This. This is that moment.
#honestly even though this is one of the best scripts there ever has been #that is the greatest line #it’s /groundbreaking/ in terms of how it frames vengeance quests; temptation beats; inigo as a comedic figure throughout the movie #you know because this is a happy book (film) that inigo will get his revenge #but will he get JUSTICE #will he get ABSOLUTION #will he get CATHARSIS #those are the things we don’t know #and that line sells it more than any of the previous scene (x)
I’m not crying, you are.
