Friendly reminder from your local public librarian that library services such as expanded opening hours, bigger collections, and a greater range of programs are only possible because of library staff labour. Whenever a library is open later or running a new program, that's because multiple staff members are putting in the time and work needed to make it happen. When we call to support and fund libraries (which is good, we should be doing that!), the first step to getting anything done is making sure that 1) there are enough staff who 2) are being paid a fair wage, 3) are safe in the workplace, and 4) have their workers' rights protected. Libraries work because library staff work - if you want more from your library, it starts with that.
