Day 7: GlimmAdora

i've seen their shipname be either with one m and two, anw im used to it just being with two m, THEY WERE MY FIRST HEARTBREAK MAN BABY'S FIRST YURI that hotspring scene is forever on my mind man, i love how they constantly tease each other, how much they rely on the other, their interactions are so special to me man, anw it was a time. a time to be alive when the series was releasing and i got flung into the side of the fandom that was at throats over which character you were shipping adora to, you'd have to be lying or extremely oblivious if you as a glimmadora shipper was actually believing that they'd be endgame it hurts but like during the last few seasons of the show omg was it so fun being a glimmer fan and a glimmadora fan:'D maybe i was just at the wrong place but i remember going through multiple social media sites and just seeing a bunch of ppl complaining abt glimmer being annoying, not to mention how some glimmadora shippers would set the rest of us back for years, as rough as it is to not have your ship be canon it's not like theyre actually dead ass hell lmao

like when i said "starting to warp like catra's mask" that is because it is canon that adora subconsciously made the final season 5 tiara look like catra's mask. and the stranded shot looked like a halfway in-between point where it's starting to change but not finalized done

@bluefeathergirl and @n7punk's discussion in the comments made me curious about this topic again... every view of the impersonal she-ra in order of appearance. for proper analysis one would have to investigate the implications internal to each episode too but i'm too distractable for that

okay before i get absorbed by the heartwrench, my impressions: Adora's circlet in Stranded matches closely enough the one in Heart pt 1 for me to be satisfied to attribute minor differences to time saving in the animation department.

the figure from Horde Prime looks to me to share all the attributes of Mara as she appears both in season 4 and 5, that she doesn't share with Adora in season 5. Distinct heels, a long cape, loose long hair, consistently curved shoulder guards, no visible cheek guards. however, though it doesn't seem to be bound impersonal she-ra's hair has a narrow fall unlike Mara and baseline Adora she-ra's broad mane. this may be within the margin of error though so best to disregard for these purposes imho

from her first to her second appearance in Launch, impersonal she-ra seems to me to shift from a broader stockier build reminiscent of Mara she-ra to a taller more slender shape more like Adora she-ra. her feet are not visible so there's no positive confirmation of whether her shoe design has changed and there's still no clear sign that the cheek guards have appeared.

my reading: impersonal she-ra is a construct of adora's mind that only loosely resembles the entity distinct from herself that is she-ra. the gradual dreamlike shifts in her appearance is a function of the imprecise translation of their attempts to communicate. it is left ambiguous whether impersonal she-ra indicates any agency on the part of distinct she-ra vis-a-vis adora. adora she-ra I don't think took on her ultimate form until the moment adora called on her in Stranded, following the path of least resistance through the circuitry of her personality until the transformation crystallized.

My first submission for @creatingblackcharacters’s Melanin Beam Challenge!!! Catra, Bow, Adora, and Glimmer from SPoP :)

To be honest I’ve always hc Glimmer as Blasian and Catra as at least half Black as well, simply bc I do that with almost every character I like or relate to (and bc I can) 😋 (Also I feel like Glimmer could only shape her hair like that if it was Afro texture) And I love Adora too, but she very much gives white girl in the show so I usually draw her as white lol. But I luv Black Adora so much :3 And Bow is canonically Black in the show, however he (1) is lowkey colored bright orange (2) is drawn with a pointed nose and implied small lips like most of the other white/non Black characters, and (3) has a high top with NO fade 💔 I guess some of that can be attributed to simplifying things for animation, but still it bothers me. So whenever I draw him I change all of those things. :3

mini rant abt catra holding out her hand in the finale/wish:

We actually all have to think about how adora's wishful future ends with catra holding out her hand for adora instead of the other way around

like the whole series adora has repeatedly held her hand out to catra (literally and metaphorically with how she keeps trying to get catra on her side) and her perfect future means no longer having to beckon catra over bcuz catra joins her anyways :')

it also shows how much adora truly wants to be loved and be chosen for Herself instead of being she-ra, specifically by Catra bcuz Catra’s possibly the only person who saw Adora’s individual worth outside of being she-ra. like. Adora wouldn't have to fight for love. It would just be reciprocated.

ALSO bcuz catra is notoriously bad at showing her feelings and love for adora due her insecurities, her openly Asking for adora to join her is just sooooo. Omg. Catra wouldn't be scared to show her love for adora because they'd be That secure in eachother.

Adora wouldn't have to fight for love, and catra would be able to openly love adora; it's literally a microcosm for the climax of the finale where catra finally expresses that she loves adora and adora finds her own strength from that. Because Catra was holding out her hand.

its also interesting how it's that freeze frame in the wish that flickers with horde prime bevause its possibly the most unrealistic part of the wish (to adora at this point imo) and its kinda why catras love confession is so poignant because catra literally does the most impossible part of the wish and its enough to bring adora back.
