How to play Mercy

So you think you got what it takes to be a Mercy main? Ok, let’s see, here are the basics:

Before you start your game, make sure you have at least one bottle of Vodka beause oh my god you are going to need it.

As soon as you enter your game say ‘Hello’ and wave in an effort to make the team care about you. If they don’t say ‘Hello’ back then ignore them for the rest of the game - they are on your naughty list.

If there is a friendly Pharah who said ‘Hello’ back then you are basically married. Make sure to keep her alive at all costs. She flies into an ulting Reaper? Follow her. You fly and die together.

Mercys pistol does a surprising amount of damage! Use it. Be the Battle Mercy you always wanted to be and bathe in the blood of your enemies and of your own team mates that are screaming for healing all over the place.

Make sure to teabag when your entire team dies and you have your ult ready. Bonus points if you sit on the ground, let the camera linger, spray, resurrect, and then teabag. Everyone will love your POTG especially the Genji whose quintuple kill you just negated.

As Mercy you are the center of the univese. When someone isn’t close enough for Guardian Angel let them die. You are the ruler over life and death and they have to learn their place. Establish dominance.

The sooner you accept that people are not going to vote for you even if you heal 62%  of the overall damage, the better off you will be. Accept that the Roadhog’s 40% Hook-Accuracy is more important. 

Shove your staff up the tanks ass and let your ult charge on them. Ignore the dying flankers, there are health packs for them. Ignore the Mei that is currently freezing your co-healer, Ressurect has priority over everything.

You will scream a lot. Prepare in advance and get Ricola^TM for the maximum swiss feel.

Ignore the Genjis. They have the blood of your sisters on their hands - they don’t deserve healing.

I’ve been wanting to make this list for a while now, because whenever someone asks me why I’m shipping roadrat and why I think they’re canon (confirmed or not), I always wish I could just send them one link.

So here goes (feel free to add more if you think something’s missing)!

1) They hardly ever appear apart In all the official art, comics, etc., Junkrat and Roadhog almost always appear together. The other Overwatch characters will appear alone or with varying people, but the junkers are always together.

2) They have matching/linked skins As far as I know, Junkrat and Roadhog are the only characters to have matching skins (Junkenstein and Junkenstein’s Monster)

Please correct me if I’m wrong here!

3) Voice line development They used to have a voice line exchange that would go:

JR: You hook ‘em, I’ll cook 'em. RH: Shut up.

But now the line goes:

RH: I’ll hook 'em… JR: And I’ll cook 'em! (x)

4) Matching Christmas sprays Junkrat and Roadhog now have a Christmas-themed spray showing the two junkers fistbumping while sipping drinks together on the beach.

5) They vacation/have fun together In the Overwatch comic “Reflections” we get to see what the Overwatch characters do for Christmas. Junkrat and Roadhog are seen having the time of their lives racing around in a car:

6) They have a (super gay) theme song When the comic was released, Twitter user biscuitzombie asked the official OW Twitter which song the junkers were playing in their car, and OW responded with “Down Under” by Men at Work. It was quickly discovered that the song contains at least one reference to gay sex.

7) They exchange Christmas presents As part of Roadhog’s Christmas skin, his gun suddenly bore the label “From: Junkrat”

and in a piece of art tweeted out by the official OW Twitter account, Junkrat can be seen unwrapping a t-shirt with a pachimari print, which Roadhog is known to love:

8) They are each other’s loved one When launching the “Reflections” comic, the official OW Twitter tweeted out: “Join our heros as they head home for the holidays and celebrate the season with their loved ones:

Junkrat and Roadhog are clearly celebrating together, ergo… loved ones! These were all I could think of, but please add more if I’ve missed some!

It’s difficult to put all the lore sources in a chronological order. Partly because some sources doesn’t have an obvious place in the timeline, and partly because many sources cover multiple points in the timeline at once. I’ve done my best, but I’ve focused more on the storytelling than being 100% faithful to the timeline.

First rule of Overwatch lore: The game is not canon.* * There is no lore reason behind why the characters are fighting in the game, or why there can be more than one of the same hero in a match. You’ll notice that he follows all 4 of the gun safety rules at all times;

He keeps the muzzle in a safe direction (assuming the camera itself is not being operated by a person/is being operated remotely; which is likely), he keeps his finger off the trigger until ready to fire, he treats the gun as if it was loaded at all times (by pointing it in a safe direction) and also fires into a direction he is aware of the extent of and thereby knows what it beyond his target and between him and his target.

In the commentary for this episode the creators said there were supposed to be cars in this scene, but there was a communication error with the studio in Korea that did the animations and cars never got in. They already had the audio and after putting it together they liked this version better than the original idea because it was even more surreal.
