GUYS, WE'RE IN THE CHICAGO MANUAL OF STYLE!!!!!
conversations of amatonormativity and consent overlap a lot and should be discussed side by side more frequently. because when you live in a society that teaches you that youâre supposed to want sex and romance, that you may want to say no in the moment but you shouldnât say no forever, any statements about consent get muddied. you cannot at once preach that consent is vital and âyou can always say noâ and also insist that people should give sex and romance a try, even when they express disinterest, telling them âeventually youâll find the right person.â
happy pride month đłïžâđ
okay so we all understand that sexual attraction doesn't always lead to sex. are we ready to consider that romantic attraction doesn't always lead to romance.
and i dont mean this in a "its for your own good we dont date" way, or a "they got turned down and are still friends" way, i mean it in a "there is romantic attraction present but the one experiencing it doesnt want to do anything with it" way. am i making sense. are you hearing the words im saying. it wont fucking kill you if you dont act on it. like obviously you should probably communicate it someday but you dont have to let it dictate you or consume you. its just a feeling.
Can I add that you donât have to communicate it? If you need to personally, then by all means. But itâs also okay to just feel it as long as you feel it and then let it pass. Attraction comes in many flavors and sometimes itâs just something to feel inside yourself and thatâs okay.
Books for Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week đ
Having aro week be the week after Valentine's is literally genius and whoever came up with it has my undying respect

MARK THE DAMN DATE
Oh you're aroace? You should watch Blimpus and Jumbie it has an aroace character! Their name is Splonky and they're introduced in season 3 they're in six episodes, have a total 25 minutes of screentime and an average of three lines per episode. They're absolutely groundbreaking aroace representation, the show's creator confirmed it on twitter when he posted a doodle of Splonky holding an asexual flag. Oh that's not your cup of tea? Here's a list of aroace books they're all about high schoolers discovering that they're aroace after trying to find a significant other and it ends with the message that you can just make up for being a terminal virgin by third wheeling the gay couple you're friends with
You go into the splonky blimpus and jumbie tag and there's like a handful of cute fanart and appreciation for Splonky, and then every other post is people drawing Splonky making out with a variety of other characters from the show and the rest is people writing mini-essays yelling at people who ship Splonky with anyone as if that killed their grandma
What is Blimpus and Jumbie even about? Who the fuck cares? There's an aroace character who was introduced in season 3, is in six episodes, has a total 25 minutes of screen time and an average of three lines per episode, the creator confirmed it on twitter when he posted a doodle of them holding an asexual flag! You're aroace, you'll love Blimpus and Jumbie, it has aroace representation! Btw the target demographic for Blimpus and Jumbie is 10-14 year olds.
one thing that does often actually genuinely break my heart about aromanticism is that it opens so many ontological pathways to methodologies that would unilaterally improve people's lives but most people can't even be bothered to learn about aromanticism much less apply those lessons to themselves
being aromantic (and being aspec in general) prompts you to unlearn the thought that a romantic relationship is going to fulfill you in a way that nothing else can. to unlearn that your worth is tied to your desirability. to unlearn that your life is defined by love. it prompts you to restructure your relationships. to reevaluate the ways in which the people around you contribute to your life and the ways in which you want to engage with them. it shows you that everything we know about relationships is defined by social constructs that don't need to be heeded. it opens you to a life of such blissful freedom and i feel such a sense of grief for the way that this information never seems to get beyond us
We need more ships where it's romantic for one half and platonic for the other and both parties are aware and ok with this
so so confused by this culture of amanormativity. i was describing the love i have for my best friend the other day, and someone said "so you love them romantically. that's how it works" and no. no, that's not how it works. at all. intense and profound and overwhelming feelings of friendship and affection and adoration don't automatically tick over into romantic once they reach a certain level. my love for my best friend is deep and strong, and it hits me like a tidal wave sometimes. but it's not romantic
i think the worst part of the "everyone thinks i'm dating my best friend" bit is the amount of people that ask "well if she was gay too you'd want to date her right?" and like no. i'm not attracted to her like that. i'm not settling for best friendship because she likes men. this isn't a second choice. the shape of my love for her is profound and bone deep and wholly platonic. she's not my best friend because girlfriend wasn't an option, she's my best friend because that's how i love her. how i want to and how i choose to love her. day in and day out it's an active and wanted choice, never a concession. with a bond so deep it aches to see her hurt, and it fills my heart endlessly to see her happy, and not once have i ever had a romantic thought for her.
Demiromantic Hearts
Demiromantic flag as a person ^^
Series is back for a while now!!
I keep forgeting that I gotta draw them holding the flag somewhere đđ
I might need some requests now đ«¶đ»đ«¶đ»
I love you asexual straight men I love you aromantic straight men I love you straight aroace men
cool youtuber Rowan Ellis just posted about making an aromanticism video and is asking for the community to fill out a questionnaire https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxmIZVjsQH3CghAhdIRbk3XKEhNW6mn4uZ
if you say âbut aros can still date!â about your aromantic blorbo, I need you to mean it. you canât make the ship just boring old romance.
your blorbo is still aromantic, so how would that color their relationships? how would that affect their daily life? do they struggle with feeling âgreedyâ because they canât love their partner back the way their partner loves them? do they have a hard time with an allo partner because on a fundamental level they donât quite understand what romance is like, even if theyâre experiencing it? on the positive side; what societal boundaries of romance do they cast aside or embrace? how do they navigate a romantic relationship differently than their peers? if itâs an aro4aro partnership, how is it unique? how much does being aro define their relationship vs. just their own personal quirks? is that even a line that can be drawn?
an aro relationship is different from an allo one. I promise, itâs so much more fun to explore what that means and the consequences of that than just âoh aros can date so theyâre dating in the same way any allos wouldâ.
Aro Books For Pride
Something I've noticed through the years, is that straight and queer people alike often have a tendency to forget about a specific queer identity:Â aromanticism.
Sometimes it's misunderstood, sometimes it's confused with asexuality, and sometimes it's ignored and/or erased.
This pride month, 23 authors have come together to gather their works and offer them at a discounted price to celebrate aromantic representation from all over the spectrum.
Whether it's to read them during pride month or the rest of the year, by buying this bundle you can get yourself tons of books while also supporting indie authors directly during a time when every little bit of support and community counts more than anything.
Get 23 books for $15, or get all 36 books for $20.
NOTE: this is a bundle that also incudes 18+ content intended for an adult audience.
If this is your first time hearing of the term aromanticism, or if you've heard about it before but are confused about what exactly it is and/or how it differs from asexuality, here's lots of cool resources (and also, my own beginner guide I made some time ago).
