1. Best Day Of Your Life - Katie Herzig
A youthful and optimistic tune fitting for Brittany’s generally sunny outlook on life, she listens to this one most often on her way to the studio. Brittany practically skips along the sidewalks and beams at passersby, occasionally turning little circles when space permits. Most people are baffled by that level of cheerful energy so early in the morning but every so often her exuberance rubs off on strangers.
2. Move Your Feet - Junior Senior
Here’s another track that puts a big smile on Brittany’s face and a spring in her step. She genuinely believes dancing brings people together in a way that nothing else can and - c’mon - how can this beat not make you want to get your groove on?
3. Here for You - Kygo
These lyrics help express how Brittany’s been feeling toward her best friend Lexi Fabray recently. Though she could try to dismiss it as simply being a comfort song dedicated to her best friend, part of Brittany knows that what’s in her heart is starting to run deeper. Subtly, when she wasn’t paying attention, her feelings began to shift into something... more.
4. Light Up The Dark - Gabrielle Aplin
Brittany actually feels this way about several people in her life, on some level. She has a natural instinct to try to drive away people’s emotional shadows (ironic, really, considering her power entails the ability to summon literal ones). However, this song relates most closely to her sentiments toward Angela, despite the fact that it sounds much more upbeat than these sisters feel about the subject. Note especially the line “when the devil’s waiting down by the river calling out...” Angela first encountered Dino Motta by the Hudson River, on the night that drew her into the Vendettas’ sphere in the first place. Now that she is learning more about her twin’s double life, Brittany wants more than anything to make sure the gangsters’ seedy dealings don’t swallow Angela whole.
5. Take It Away - Butterfly Boucher
Though she remains bouyant and upbeat on most days, there are times when the realities of the world she lives in catch up to Brittany. It’s on days like those that she relates most to these lyrics and longs to return to a time when things were simpler.
6. Shadows - Lindsey Stirling
A rare case in which the video itself contributed a great deal to Brittany’s appreciation for the song. Lindsey’s playful interaction with her shadow reminded Brittany of her own beloved friends, and the song has a really fun energy.
7. Solo Dancing - Indiana (NB: Food tw for the video)
A tune for when Brittany is preparing to head out to clubs at night. It’s sufficiently slow enough that she can apply her makeup and fix her hair without making a mess trying to shimmy to the beat at the same time, but it still manages to put her in the right mood to go find a dance floor and own it.
8. Running Up That Hill - Placebo
This song is the current inspiration for a routine Britt is working on with her dance partner, Charlie Puckerman. It was Charlie’s selection and the choreography is his own. The required emotions can prove taxing after grueling hours of rehearsal, but Brittany is confident that the end result will connect with the audience. She’s proud of the art her friend has asked her to help create, and she’s committed to doing the piece justice.
9. The Moment I Said It - Imogen Heap
Ever since earlier this year, this track has come to be associated in Brittany’s mind with the dawning realization that her sister is in way over her head. The wheel was set in motion following the New Year’s masquerade but has been gaining momentum since right around their birthday. She’s terrified that the increase in violent acts connected to the Big Three city powers will lead her sister down a path from which there can’t be any return, but Brittany is determined to hold on tightly and be there in any way that can keep her sibling safe.
