dhrithri:
Her name, uttered by a voice so familiar it makes her steps halt. His hand on her shoulder sends a chill through her spine – how careless, did he had no decency or the small amount of comprehension to be delicate? Before she can speak, she wastes no time in throwing her arms around his shoulders and pulling him into a hug. “Yes, it’s me… It’s me…” Words fumble at the tip of her tongue, clumsily spoken midst a joyous laugh mixed with sobs. She does not hide the fact tears are already dripping from the corner of her eyes despite clinging on his frame so fervently. His other question will have to wait for an answer, she wants to let this moment last for a while.
All these months, waiting nonsensically and hopes dwindling with every passing day… how can she not constantly torture herself, considering unfair her own revival while letting him be but a memory? However, there’s much more than guilt – despite her initial disapproval of Roland, she grew to understand and respect him as a comrade from the Embryon. He did far more than a certain redhead, gave up his life through his own means whilst supporting the very ideals Sera (therefore Serph) protected.
“I’ve been here for a long time, it was driving me crazy…” She breaks the embrace but only to observe him, a hand gently placed on his left cheek. Physical contact may appear improper, strange almost but she’d missed him terribly and boundaries may as well be overlooked for the sake of this reunion.
“It’s good to see you again, y’know?”
Being embraced so suddenly made Roland to stop thinking for a second, he never thought he would see Argilla do something like this. That day was a horrible memory for both of them, of course the horror of that unkillable monster chasing them and then almost killing them. “I see.” Calm words reaches her ears, Roland wasn’t the best at getting emotional, to be honest. The feeling of the moisture of her tears reaching his trench coat. He feels that his questions would be sent for later, and then after thinking a bit, he puts his arms around her and returns the hug.
How could he know how much that pained her, after all, he was as good as dead and couldn’t even apologize, should he know of the constant pain she felt from this and he would really get heartbroken. It was surprising for him, the one who hated him at the beginning to feel like this now, Argilla really seemed to care for his comrades, he saw that as she grieved Serph’s sacrifice at the EGG facility and then at the very last moment they smiled to each other.
“Really? Then I am sorry, I know saying an apology doesn’t help at everything but at least I’ll be here now, so you won’t deal with this alone.” He caresses her cheek, cleaning her tears. He smiles and looks at her again.
“I’m glad to see you, too.”
