I think these might be the meatiest lizards in the canyon, never seen one in person and this trip i got to see TWO in the same little subcanyon. They're in the iguana family and hide in cracks while puffing up their bodies so they can't be yanked out (which is how I was able to get a nice photo of this guy)

smaller griffonfly. Below it other insects scatter while amphibians lazily swim through the warm waters at the edge of the shallow lake, Edaphosaurus basking in the sun in the back. Without any flying vertebrates insects would remain the kings of the skies for a long time...

The Wellington Formation preserves a highly seasonal playa lake environment, with ephemeral bodies of water that would burst into life during rainy season. This formation is part of the Permian red beds which are usually known for their exceptional tetrapod fauna...

But instead you get here a very rich fauna of insects, many of them being large to giant. Beyond that we have a few more regular red beds creatures here Size chart by discord members JW and Montana
