━✧˖° ʚ🌠ɞ ✧・゚ : *✧ ・゚: *. ・ ・゚: ೃ࿔ *:・ *·˚ ᝰ̟۟
suguru comes home a few days after the night parade of a hundred demons.
after you spent three nights crying, staying awake, waiting for him to come back.
you’re sitting on the front steps of the temple when he emerges from the brush, bloodied but it doesn’t look like he’s been hurt. someone else’s?
his hair is all down, hanging low in front of his face. he has a slight limp in his walk.
“there you are.”
he groans out.
you’re frozen. you can’t do anything but stare.
nanako and mimiko told you just a few hours ago that satoru gojo killed your lover.
so why is he walking right up to you now?
“suguru.” you slowly rise to your feet, meeting him halfway. the first thing you do is wrap your arms around him, then check for any injuries.
“what happened?” you ask, glancing to suguru who still had his head down. you sigh and cup his cheek with one of your hands.
he immediately leans into your touch and his shoulders slowly fall as he lets out a sigh of relief.
“what happened with gojo?”
“i’m here now.”
suguru never dismissed you like that before. there were no secrets in your relationship, especially during times like these.
“suguru-“
“god, you really are gorgeous, (name).” suguru finally looks up, meeting your eyes and if you looked hard enough you’d say he smiled right at you.
“he was right.”
you hold both his cheeks in your hands and lean closer, brushing his nose against yours. like habit, you begin to brush his hair out of his face to get a good look at the man you love.
your eyes glaze over as you lower your hand to his chest. not touching, fingers hovering just above his chest like you touch his soul underneath.
whatever you feel, it isn’t him.
“who are you?” your voice trembles. you start to pull away, and his hands splayed across your waist drag you closer. you hate how familiar it feels.
“look at me. you know who i am.” he says with a scoff that you would’ve laughed at any other day.
“you don’t even walk like him.” your voice breaks on the last word. you start searching his face for any ounce of humanity, any trace that says suguru is still in there. not this… thing.
kenjaku lets you examine him for anything that might explain why this is happening, that this is all a dream, that it’s just some shapeshifting curse user impersonating him.
suguru was right.
you are the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen.
kenjaku’s felt it before. when he took over kaori and got to see for himself just how much she loved jin.
but this, this is something deeper than love.
obsession, maybe?
suguru loved you more than kenjaku could ever imagine humans were capable of.
but then again, suguru was never just a human. that’s what made him so perfect for him, like they were destined to be together just as you and him were.
on the fatal blow, suguru closed his eyes and he saw gojo. his parents. his friends. him and shoko sharing a cigarette. gojo again.
but then, there was you.
it always has been you.
there was still residue of your name on suguru’s lips, all the things he never got the courage to say to you sitting heavy on his chest when kenjaku got a hold of him.
he got curious.
intimate memories you shared together, memories you both thought nobody would ever touch came rushing back to him, and for once it didn’t feel out of place for him.
he didn’t feel like an intruder at all. which is why he was able to come to you so easily.
“you’re not him…” you say just above a whisper. through his bangs you catch a glimpse of sutures on his forehead.
you don’t think twice before you grab him and stare at the stitches going across the top of his head.
“what is this? what did you do to him?” you exclaim and kenjaku snatches you up roughly by the fabric of your sleeves.
“stop. he didn’t like fighting you.”
“you’re not him!”
“we are-,” kenjaku stops himself and clenches his jaw. he shuts his eyes for a minute, muscles tensing as he catches himself.
“i am the new him. he didn’t even know how to use his own technique properly, and this is the man you fell in love with?”
“how dare you? you don’t have the right!” you push him back, tears collecting on your waterline. “you dug up my dead. turned him into a second skin. how fucking dare you?”
kenjaku stands in front of you, stunned.
you’re completely crying now. you don’t care. if crying could bring back suguru, you’d cry until your ribs shattered and your throat went dry.
there she is, kenjaku thinks. in all your glory, there you are before him. all the good parts and the bad parts. magnetic, strikingly beautiful, hard-headed, easily blinded by your emotions.
these were all things suguru had once said.
and you hate how this puppet master repeats them back at you like he’s mocking you, reducing the years you spent together to nothing but just character development for his vessel.
something flickers behind kenjaku’s gaze. it’s borrowed. it doesn’t belong to him. nothing does anymore when he’s in front of you.
“he didn’t fight very hard when i took him.” he smiles sharply.
a crack echoes throughout the empty space. the slap you deliver rings through the air like thunder, like lightning over pure ocean.
but nothing about this body is pure. not anymore.

papa!kento nanami who chooses a vacation spot that is peaceful and organized while being both fun for your kids and relaxing for you two.
papa!kento nanami who announces the trip and in response gets instantly tackled by a 6 year old yuuji. choso cracks a smile and mutters a small ‘thank you, papa.’
papa!kento nanami who is adamant on being on time for your flight.
“ken, it’s not even 6 am yet…” you groan from behind him, bouncing yuuji on your hip as he’s half asleep.
“you can never be too prepared, honey.” he replies, stuffing all four of your passports into a coordinated envelope.
“you know what i think this is? ridiculous.” yuuji leans his head on your shoulder and you rub his back.
“oooo.” choso tugs on his shirt and points at him.
papa!kento nanami who sits across the aisle from you three on the plane and admires the family he’s built over the years.
your oldest son gazing out the plane window and yuuji in the middle, watching a cartoon on the screen attached to the back of the seat in front of him.
papa!kento nanami who is the designated family photographer. whether it’s candids or shots you pose for, he rarely asks to be in the photos himself.
he likes to be the one capturing the moment. making sure it’s perfect, timeless, making sure when he looks back at it, everything is just right.
papa!kento nanami who eventually gets dragged into pictures by you. they usually result with you carrying yuuji, kento behind you and holding choso close to him.
papa!kento nanami who abandons his book and ends up watching you play with the boys in the shallow water. the hem of your dress soaked. choso’s nose reddened from the sun. the sand that mysteriously got all over yuuji.
papa!kento nanami who gratefully accepts the handful of shells yuuji dumps in his hands every few minutes and tucks them safely into his shirt.
when one of the shells yuuji picks up is actually a small crab, he screams so loud it catches the attention of others.
yuuji ducks behind your long, flowy skirt and watches intently as choso picks up the crab.
“yuuji, look,” choso cups it in both of his hands. you smile and card your fingers through yuuji’s hair.
“it’s fine, sweetheart.” you crouch and yuuji stands in between your knees, the material of your dress still balled up in his tiny little fists.
“papa!” choso exclaims and shoves his hands in kento’s face.
“this is what scared you, yuuji?” kento hums and yuuji nods, sniffling and wiping his nose.
“it’s okay, it’s okay,” you nuzzle his chubby cheek and kiss his temple.
“say bye, yuuji.” choso gently grins before placing it back in the sand. the crab quickly buries it’s way back underneath the waves and disappears.
“bye…” yuuji mutters.
papa!kento nanami who lets yuuji have ice cream before dinner.
papa!kento nanami who regrets it hours later when yuuji won’t go to sleep.
“papa…” kento turns at the sound of yuuji shuffling out the balcony door towards him in his little dinosaur pajamas.
“hey, buddy.” kento scoops the pink haired boy into his arms and lightly pinches his cheek. “can’t sleep?”
“no, come lay with us.” yuuji says, placing both hands on kento’s cheeks.
he looks back inside, where you and choso had dozed off on the couch, his head in your lap and a movie still playing in the background.
“okay.” kento smiles.
papa!kento nanami who would give the world to see you three happy.
dad!satoru gojo who is almost just as, if not even more excited than your children, tsumiki and megumi.
dad!satoru gojo who buys the three of you individual outfits and accessories to wear to tokyo disneyland based on your favorite disney characters.
dad!satoru gojo who dramatically tears up at the sight of little megumi with brown bear ears inspired by koda from brother bear.
dad!satoru gojo who smothers tsumiki in kisses when he sees her dressed up as cinderella in a baby blue dress and light blue mickey ears.
dad!satoru gojo who insists you two have to match and it has to be something that makes people turn heads.
“toru, no.” you glare at him, folding your arms over your chest.
“what???” satoru exclaims. “no, baby, please,” he wraps his arms around you and drags you towards him.
“i’m not carrying a lizard around the park.” you turn away from him and he rests his chin on top of your head.
“pascal is a chameleon!”
dad!satoru gojo who buys you mickey ears of decorated like princess rapunzel and buys himself flynn rider ears.
dad!satoru gojo who buys mickey shaped ice cream sandwich bars before lunch and earns a sharp glare from you.
“open wide.” satoru taps the cold treat on your lips and watches with a wide smile as you slowly part your lips.
“mommy, mommy!” tsumiki tugs on your hand and bounces on her heels. you look to where she’s pointing to see numerous disney characters walking around and waving.
“mickey! and minnie!” the little girl giggles, practically dragging the rest of you over to them.
“and look, gumi, the balloons!” megumi gazes up and his small hands wrapped around satoru’s slender fingers barely tighten.
dad!satoru gojo who places tsumiki on his shoulders, carries megumi on his hip, and holds your hand with his free one during the afternoon parade.
tsumiki screams in enthusiasm every time a character waves at her, and megumi softly smiles when a character points in his direction.
dad!satoru gojo who on the second day of the park coordinates an entire outfit for the family. you as princess ariel, him as eric, megumi as sebastian the crab and tsumiki as flounder the fish.
dad!satoru gojo who gets ridiculously jealous over an actor doing their job.
you four are eating dinner before the fireworks show in front of cinderella castle. megumi is quietly eating and swinging his feet above the ground while tsumiki’s minnie plushie she chose earlier rests in her lap.
tsumiki suddenly gasps and tugs on satoru’s sleeve. “dad, aladdin!” she smiles as the actor approaches your table.
“hey, little guy.” the aladdin actor kneels in between megumi’s and tsumiki’s chairs and grins at him.
“hi.” megumi mutters through his food and taps his spoon on his plate.
“are you two enjoying the park?” aladdin says, looking between the children.
“yes!” tsumiki practically vibrates in her seat.
“hmm, have you heard about what’s happening tonight?” aladdin hums and looks at you and satoru before going back to entertaining the two kids.
“what?” megumi asks, suddenly more interested in aladdin than his food.
“genie’s giving three wishes to any children in the park tonight,” aladdin mock whispers. “but only to those who are good for their parents.”
“i think they’ve been pretty good, right, megs?” satoru hums, ruffling his black hair that was already messy from the wind after riding the spinning teacups three times in a row.
“what’s one wish you’d make?” aladdin turns to tsumiki who immediately looks to you.
“i want… my mommy to..” she pauses to think and your smile widens at the idea of her immediately thinking of you.
“i want my mommy to go on a magic carpet ride with me.” tsumiki says.
aladdin turns to you and takes your hand. “really? would your mother like that?”
“that sounds like a good idea.” you catch satoru glaring at you two in your peripheral vision and try not to burst out in laughter.
“let’s see… you’re dressed as ariel, aren’t you?”
“and i’m eric. the one ariel is married to.” satoru grumbles.
“do you prefer being in the sky or underwater?” aladdin asks and you shrug.
“well, i am afraid of heights.”
“mommy held my hand really tight on the plane!” tsumiki announces and a light pink tint glazes over your cheeks in slight embarrassment.
“well, that’s fair,” aladdin then stands up and puts his hand’s on the back of megumi’s chair. “jasmine was a little scared the first time i took her flying.”
“now she loves it, right?” megumi asks, peering up at the actor.
“she does, little man.” aladdin flashes the children a toothy grin before walking off to the next table.
“i don’t think the characters are supposed to interact with guests that long.” satoru huffs and you reach over the table to grab his fingers.
“you’re a real big baby, you know?” you smile.
“but mommy, you almost cried on the plane.” megumi looks up at you and earns a nudge from satoru.
dad!satoru gojo who then sticks his tongue out at you like the big baby he is.

you’ve always been the first one to wake up on weekdays.
weekends belong to your daughters, nanako and mimiko.
the house is still silent. the girls’ alarms haven’t gone off yet and the only noise coming from the kitchen is the sound of the coffee maker.
you’re still in your pajamas, your husband’s old shirt from high school and sweatpants.
you rub your eye as you take the mug out from under the machine and replace it with his mug.
that first sip always seems to revive you.
“morning.” you feel large arms snake around your waist and suguru rests his chin on top of your head.
“good morning.” you take his hand and squeeze. with his free hand he grabs his mug and smooches your cheek, ignoring your whines about morning breath.
“i did brush my teeth.”
“you lie just like nanako.” you roll your eyes and turn around to look at him. you brush stray locks of hair out of his face to get a proper look at the man you fell in love with during your first year of high school.
suguru still has that same gentleness about him. neither of you would forget his second year, when his depression hit him the hardest.
you and him have grown both individually and together that bringing it up no longer feels like inviting a bad memory in and more like a testimony to your relationship.
“satoru wants to know if game night is still on friday.” you two have moved to the bathroom, suguru brushing the same teeth he said he had already brushed, and you doing a light, warm makeup look.
“what are the teams again?” you ask, leaning close to the mirror to make sure your concealer isn’t smudged.
“girls versus boys?” your husband suggests and you look at him sideways.
“no. two girls and four boys is not fair and you know it.”
“yes ma’am.”
“me, yuu, and kento against you, satoru, and shoko.” you say. it’s the only reasonable answer. they were in the same grade during your school years. you and the two boys were also in the same grade.
suguru finishes spitting out his mouthwash and wipes his mouth with a paper towel before leaning closer to you.
“can i kiss you now?” he asks and you point to your face with a hum.
“mimiko, that’s mine!!” your youngest daughter’s voice screeches from down the hall.
“what is it this time?” suguru murmurs, before going to check out what they could be arguing about this so early in the morning.
after getting dressed, you shockingly manage to avoid getting dragged into the drama between two fifteen year old girls and start breakfast.
you’re standing over a skillet, scrambling eggs and you keep hearing the thudding of footsteps above you.
you can only suspect it’s nanako, running from your room after borrowing one of your cardigans.
“mama,” you look over your shoulder and see mimiko standing in the kitchen doorway.
“hey, baby,” you gently smile as she approaches you and leans on your shoulder. “you look like you could go right back to sleep.”
“tired.” the younger girl sighs. you ruffle her hair and kiss the top of her head.
“what was nana yelling about this morning?” you ask. you hear shuffling behind you and she’s opening the refrigerator, pulling out fruit.
“she hasn’t worn these earrings in months,” mimiko motions to the silver earrings she now has on. “but as soon as i put them on, she says she was going to wear them.”
you plate the eggs and slide them onto the counter next to the fruit, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear as you steal a strawberry from mimiko.
“because i was!!” nanako huffs as she follows suguru down the stairs, who is just shaking his head with a smile.
“you don’t even wear silver!” mimiko scoffs.
“i can change my mind, like… whenever i want! and i’ve decided both look good on me.” the light brown haired girl explains, waving her phone with a green case around.
“daddy will buy us more, right?” the three of you all turn to suguru who’s been watching the whole exchange while drinking coffee.
“yes… he will..” he answers. the girls are satisfied with his response and go to the hallway to pack their school bags. but you can hear the hesitation and uncertainty in his tone, the kind that says ‘i’m not sure what i just agreed to.’
“what will he be buying more of, exactly?” suguru asks as you pop a blueberry into his mouth.
“just earrings.” you tap his nose before storing the rest of the fruit back into the refrigerator before it goes bad and you hear him let out a sigh of relief.
while suguru will admit life with two twin daughters and a wife is sometimes exhausting, he is completely to blame. he is the one who enables you three, spoiling you with anything you want.
“girls, we’re leaving in five!” you call upstairs, or wherever they ran off to. they couldn’t have gotten far, that’s all you know.
“hey,” suguru gently takes your wrist in his hand and turns you towards him. “can i get a kiss now?”
you hum in faux concentration, pretending to be deep in thought and tapping your finger against your chin.
“(name).” he’s trying to be serious but one look at you and he immediately softens and breaks into a grin.
“i love you, you know that, right?” you rest your hand at the nape of his neck and close the gap between you two.
“trust me, i’ll never forget.” he smiles against your lips.
nanako whines at the sight of you two. “mimi, daddy’s kissing mama again!”
“it’s not even 8:00 am.” mimiko groans.

୭⋆*。 ₊̣̇.ෆ.₊̣̇. ୨୧ – the day bf!satoru gojo meets your family ˃̵ᴗ˂̵˚♡˚‧⁺༄
“you’re weirdly excited.” you comment as you and satoru step onto the porch of your parents’ home.
“why would i not be?” satoru asks, holding a tray of cookies that you baked last night but you already know he’ll take credit for.
you’re honestly surprised he hasn’t eaten half of the batch by now but apparently he really wants to impress your family.
“i don’t know. my family is… a lot.” you shrug.
“you’re dating someone who’s a lot.” he smirks, pinching your cheek in silent reassurance before knocking on the front door.
the door swings open a few seconds later. your parents have been begging you to come so you can only imagine how eager they are to see you.
“(name)!!!” your mom gasps, immediately pulling you into a hug.
“hi, mom.” you smile as she begins fussing over you, whether you’ve been eating enough, taking care of yourself, typical stuff that she’s been worrying over forever.
she pulls away from you and she glances at satoru, then looks up and finally meets his eyes.
“so, which one is this?”
“which one???” satoru exclaims.
“oh mom, you’re so FUNNY,” you deadpan as you hold onto his arm. “this is satoru.”
“hmmm. i’ve heard about you.” your mom nods and folds her arms over her chest. “come here.” she opens her arms and he awkwardly bends to hug her while still holding the cookies.
“you’re beautiful, ma’am,” he grins then jerks his chin towards you. “i see where she gets her looks from.”
you fight the urge to roll your eyes knowing he practiced that line in the mirror before you came here.
“awww, thank you, honey. well, come in! the whole family’s here!” your mom ushers you two in and you step into the kitchen where your cousins are trying to sneak bites of food.
the younger ones all scream your name and run up to you, jumping up and down and holding their arms out.
“what’s that?” one points behind you and you look over your shoulder. they didn’t even acknowledge the lanky man behind you.
“cookies.” you reply, taking the cookies from satoru and flashing a soft smile at him. you put them on the counter and watch your cousins all grab some.
“hey, (name).” your two older cousins approach you and satoru. “who’s this?” one of them glares at satoru.
“my boyfriend, satoru.” you take his hand in yours and glare at your cousins, telling them not to get any ideas.
“damn, dude, how tall are you?” your cousin leans on the fridge, looking him up and down.
“i’m proud of you, (name), finally you did something right.” your girl cousin says with a laugh. you know she’s joking. you two have always been that way since you were kids since she’s closest in age to you.
“now it’s your turn. when are we gonna meet the lucky someone?” you lean on satoru’s shoulder and she shrugs with a wink before walking off.
“your cousins must love you.” satoru says, reaching over you to take a cookie.
“i’m the middle cousin. i have to get along with everyone.” you scoff as you take your own cookie. “how do they taste?” you ask.
“i baked them perfectly. as usual.” he smirks and you slap his chest. “okay, okay, you did amazing, my love.” he presses a kiss to your cheek and you squirm.
“don’t get chocolate chips on my face!” you exclaim.
“(name),” you turn around at the familiar voice and immediately push satoru away from you so fast it could’ve given him whiplash.
“hi, dad.” you smile as your dad opens his arms and pulls you into him. “i missed you guys.”
“we missed you too, sweetie.” your dad looks at you before staring at satoru.
you keep looking back and forth between the two men and notice they’re basically the same height. you’re not sure satoru has ever met someone as equally intimidating as him.
“dad, this is my boyfriend.” you say, taking satoru’s hand and pulling him closer. “satoru, this is my dad.”
satoru sticks his hand out and your dad roughly shakes it. he hums in acknowledgment of his firm hold. you’ve brought many boys over that you know a simple hum can determine the outcome of your relationship.
“and what are your intentions with my daughter?”
satoru doesn’t even hesitate before responding. “i want to spend the rest of my life with her. taking care of her, spending all our years laughing, showing her what it feels like to be loved and cherished.” he says.
“although, i think i’m doing a pretty good job now,” he looks at you and you put a hand over your mouth to muffle your laughter.
“there’s always room for improvement. when it comes to your daughter, sir, nothing’s too much. i want to spend the rest of my life proving that to her if you’ll give me the chance.”
this isn’t the only time satoru has almost made you cry when professing his love for you. it still baffles you sometimes how he loves you so easily and naturally like breathing.
your dad notices the way you look at him the entire time he’s talking, and the way you smile when he glances back at you.
your dad folds his arms over his chest, clenching his jaw. he knows he was right to reject all your other boyfriends years ago. or else you would’ve never met satoru.
“take off the glasses.” your dad says.
“okay, but don’t say anything when i blind you with my beauty.” satoru slides them up and into his hair and your dad barely cracks a smile.
he claps him on the shoulder and then walks off with a can of beer in his hand.
you two stand there for a second, silence lingering in the air.
“what was that?” satoru asks.
“i think he… approves?” you reply and he looks at you in shock.
“you think???”
“i don’t know!! you’re the only one that’s gotten this far!!!”
“that has to mean something good, right?” he mutters. you don’t respond. “right, (name)???”
“right, toru…”
safe to say, everyone else loves him. especially the younger ones. they keep clinging and asking him to hold them on his shoulders yet they swear they’re not afraid of heights.
your mom and aunts and older cousins keep flustering you with questions about marriage and children. they point out how attentive he is to you even when he’s surrounded by ten little kids.
“i want grandchildren. we both know i’m not getting any younger here.” your mom put her hand on your knee.
“i-i don’t know about kids yet, mom…” you stammer and satoru looks over, noticing your flushed cheeks and takes it as the perfect opportunity to add his own opinion.
“hey, (name),” satoru calls and all the women, including you snap your heads up at him. “what about that dog you wanted? you said it’d be good practice for when we become parents, right?”
everyone basically gasps at his words. your aunt grabs you excitedly.
“so you are thinking about it!!!” she squeals.
meanwhile you just glare at satoru and he sticks his tongue out in response.
hours pass and you’re relieved that the day has gone by smoothly, especially after meeting your parents. your mom is easy. she’s proven to be weak to satoru’s charms, but your dad is the one you spent days worrying about.
you weren’t sure how your dad would react to satoru. he’s always been a little… harsh when it comes to your boyfriends.
even in high school when a boy came to pick you up to take you to the movies, your dad made him leave. without you.
it was so humiliating, you could hardly show your face in public for a week after that. since then your dad has learned to tone things down. or whatever his definition of toning things down is.
“(name)…” little grabby hands tug at your fingers and you look down to see one of your younger cousins. he’s almost two and unlike most toddlers, he’s a little less adventurous and curious.
“oh, hi.” your voice immediately softens as you reach down and take him into your arms. “hi, baby.”
he wraps his tiny arms around you as much as he can.
“what’s wrong?” you ask, gazing at his teary eyes.
“missed you.” he mutters. you kiss his cheek and lightly pinch his nose to get him to laugh.
“i’m right here, silly. i’m not going anywhere.” you smile softly. you only get to see your family so much due to living in the city with satoru.
that sparks another thought into your head. if you and satoru really got married… what if you two moved to be closer to your family?
little do you know that ‘if’ will turn into a ‘when’ very soon.
and he’s already secretly got your dad’s blessing within four hours of meeting him. how does he do it?
“hey, babe.” satoru sneaks up behind you and kisses your forehead. “hey, little guy.” he sticks his finger out and your cousin wraps his entire hand around it.
“what are you two doing out here? sneaking away from the party?” satoru feigns innocence as he pulls more giggles out of your cousin. “are you stealing (name) from me?” he gasps.
your cousin laughs and buries his head into your neck, holding you tighter.
“well, there goes your answer.” you smile up at your boyfriend. “you want toru to hold you?” you look at your cousin and he timidly nods.
he holds his arms out towards him and satoru looks at you for the okay before taking him.
“satoru, what are you doing?”
satoru’s holding your cousin out in front of him, arms completely outstretched like he has a disease.
“i’m holding him.”
“that isn’t how you hold a baby!!!”
“well i’m satoru gojo and i make the rules.”
“hold my damn cousin right before i take him back.”
“yes, ma’am.”
still, satoru’s carrying your cousin with one hand like he’s a basketball but your cousin is laughing and smiling through it all.
satoru’s holding your cousin up in the air and pressing kisses into his cheek and making him laugh so hard your other family members start looking over.
“look at (name),” satoru points at you and your cousin looks at you with a smile. “look at her. isn’t she so pretty?”
“(name)!!!” your cousin wraps his arms around the white haired man.
“stop.” you try to hide your smile.
“she’s the prettiest woman i’ve ever seen, you know that?” your boyfriend whispers, obviously too loud because you can still hear him. “do you think she knows i love her?”
“shut up.” you laugh through the pink tint on your cheeks.
eventually your aunt comes and takes your cousin to go feed him and it’s just you two sitting outside by the mailbox. the sun is starting to set behind the trees and it hits you that you’ve really spent all day with your boyfriend and family. he fits in so perfectly.
“i like your family.” satoru mutters, suddenly quieter than he’s been all day. “i think they like me too.”
“at this point i think they like you more than me.” you chuckle and he leans his head on your shoulder.
“impossible. they must be blind.” he replies. “who could not like you?”
“you’re so stupid…” you softly smile, pulling your knees to your chest.
“stupid in love. with you and this family.” he presses a long kiss to your cheek, long enough for you to start squirming as he holds you to his chest.
“but mostly you.”
as night falls and a long drive back home is calling your names after being force fed by your mom all afternoon, you and satoru finally start saying your goodbyes to everyone.
“here, take this.” your mom says, placing a tray of food in your hands. “you need to eat more, (name)!!!”
“mom trust me, satoru is always making sure i’m fed.”
“candy doesn’t count.”
“heyyyyy,” satoru whines as he leans over your shoulder and pouts. “where’d all the cookies go?”
“you brought cookies to a family gathering and expected there to be leftovers?” your mom glares at him.
“right, right. i’ll bake more next time.” he smiles, still dragging the idea that he baked those cookies.
while your mom and cousins are still showering you with love, asking when’s the next time they’ll see you, satoru stands off to the side leaning against the wall with his hands in his pockets.
there’s a content smile on his face. the same smile he always gets from looking at you when you’re not paying attention.
he subtly lifts his phone and takes a few candid shots of you smiling and kissing your mom’s cheek.
“satoru.” your dad appears next to him and he immediately straightens.
“sir.” satoru replies. “your family is wonderful.”
“so is my daughter.” your dad nods.
“more than that,” satoru begins and your dad looks at him. “she’s everything to me.”
“me too.”
“hey, look at us, already finding a common ground.” your boyfriend jokes and your dad chuckles.
“welcome to the family, son.” your dad barely grins as you approach them.
“okay, dad, we’re leaving now,” you say, giving him a final hug. “i’ll be back soon, okay?”
“make sure you bring satoru too. i’m starting to get used to seeing him around.”
you turn your head and look at satoru with a smile and he sheepishly waves at you.
“and let me know when you’ve made it home safe.”
satoru throws his arm over your shoulders. “hey, if she doesn’t, i will.”
“you have his number?” you ask as you finally walk out the front door and to your car.
“oh yeah, we’re the bestest of friends. i call him dad already.”
“sure you do.”

it had always been you, your older brother, junpei and your mom, nagi. you were younger than him by a year and a few months.
you and junpei didn’t share the same dad but he never let that change anything. he considered you his full sister and loved you like one.
junpei also knew that you loved him so much that it would break your heart if he ever told you the truth about his school life. about why he wore his bangs over one side of his face. about why he was always more down than you or your mom.
you two went to the movie theaters a lot. although you preferred books over movies it put a smile on junpei’s face. after all, movies are just like books brought to life.
you didn’t admit it out loud, but you and your mom were both equally surprised the first day one of junpei’s friends came over. he seemed like the complete opposite of junpei.
yuji was like a ball of sunshine. he was always doing stuff to make your mom laugh and junpei always complained to you about how yuji might’ve had a crush on your mom.
however on days when yuji stayed over and you’d run into each other in the dark of the hallway or quiet kitchen, you always caught him staring at you a little longer.
one day, yuji had come over for dinner and he wouldn’t admit it, but he was starting to come over in hopes to see you instead of nagi.
but unfortunately for him, you were going out of town to visit your dad and his family for a few days.
“you don’t wanna stay and eat, honey?” your mom asked, taking a sip of champagne.
“i’ve gotta catch my train.” you smiled. yuji and junpei poked their heads out of his bedroom in unison.
“we’ll walk you, sis.” junpei said.
“where you going?” yuji asked.
“yokohama to see my dad.” you answered.
nagi stood up and brushed your hair behind your ear, kissing your cheek. “be nice.”
you lightly scoffed as she kept littering kisses all over your face.
“okay, okay!!” you whined, pulling away from her after she left one final smooch on the apple of your cheek.
eventually you said your last goodbyes to your mom while yuji took your bag.
at the station, yuji kept asking you to bring him back souvenirs and sweets. junpei told you to enjoy yourself and go to all the bookstores you could. he gave you his red hoodie because it was supposed to rain and he knew you. you never packed a “just in case” jacket, you always said it ruined the aesthetic of your travel bag.
when your train finally came, yuji hugged you, which wasn’t out of the ordinary but he hugged you like he would miss you and junpei saw it.
“hopefully you get taller by the time you come back.” yuji said into your hair and you pulled back.
“i’m still older than you.” you scoffed then turned to junpei. “take care of mom.” you smiled.
“i will.” he lightly grinned, pulling you into a hug with one arm. “have fun. don’t take any shit from anyone.”
“woahhh, junpei, you rarely cuss!!!” yuji exclaimed as he gave you your bag. “who are you and what did you do with junpei?”
“yuji, i’m seventeen…”
as they continued to playfully bicker, you didn’t realize that would be the last time you ever saw them together again.
ᥫ᭡₊⊹ˑ𓂃✦.˚೯⁺.
the news hit you when you were asleep.
in the middle of the night, your dad came into your room looking distressed.
he sat on the edge of the bed next to where you were curled up and gently shook you awake.
it took a second for you to register the words that came next. you wished it was a nightmare.
all you caught was ‘junpei and your mom’, ‘house fire’, ‘unknown cause’, ‘dead when first responders arrived’, ‘a few hours ago’.
you cried so loud it woke up the rest of the house, including your stepmom and stepbrother.
a few days later you return to tokyo after an argument with your dad. he argued that there was nothing left for you there. how could he be so insensitive during a time like this? the last thing you needed was someone telling you what to do after your whole world just crumbled into pieces.
its true, you did love your brother and mom more than you loved your dad. he walked out on you when you were younger and started a new family. he left you wondering if you weren’t enough. he just recently started to try to get more involved in your life but grudges like that are hard to let go of.
but he was right about one thing. there’s nothing left for you here. you have no idea where to go.
you end up walking back home. you didn’t really mean to. but your mind has been somewhere else. maybe making up delusions to cope with the loss of the only two people who stayed.
your feet carry you the whole way there like its muscle memory. you half expect to smell your mom’s cooking the closer you get to the house, or hear the sound of a movie blaring from junpei’s open window.
but instead all you’re met with is dust and ashes and a heavy force pressing down on your shoulders as you stare at the wooden skeleton of what used to be your favorite place to be.
curled up in your real bedroom, reading a young adult drama, your mom playing music downstairs, and junpei watching a movie in his room.
it’s cloudy and windy outside. the weather forecast said it would rain.
you slowly climb over the yellow caution tape draped over the fence by the police. you don’t care if this is considered trespassing on a crime scene. you grew up here. you didn’t even really get to say goodbye. because you thought you’d come back.
something gets wedged under your shoe and you lift your foot up. you see a cigarette crushed up and dirtied with mud.
for some reason, the sight of a simple cigarette makes your eyes well up with tears as a lump forms in your throat. your mom always did have a smoking problem and junpei always scolded her for it.
you’d give anything to hear that right about now. you bury your face in your hands and now, mean sobs from deep within your chest are coming out of you.
you didn’t allow yourself to cry like this at your dad’s house. you could never be that vulnerable around people who might as well be strangers.
it’s just you and the cold rain and the wind hitting your cheeks so sharp it feels like its cutting you apart.
“hey… (name)?”
you feel a hand on your shoulder and pull your hands from away your face. you look behind you to see yuji standing there.
he’s in a jacket with his hood up. he looks bad. he has dark circles under his eyes. he hasn’t been sleeping well.
you don’t bother to wipe your face. there’s no hiding it. it shouldn’t be sugarcoated. your brother and mom are dead and you can’t deny your grief for them.
“yuji.” you mutter. “what are you doing here?”
yuji opens his mouth to say something but shoves his hands into his pockets instead.
you look down at the cigarette and your lip trembles. you wrap your arms around yourself and you can feel yourself shaking.
yuji slowly lifts his hands up to your shoulders, looking at you for confirmation. you nod. that’s all you can bring yourself to do right now.
he gently fixes the collar of junpei’s red hoodie and pulls the hood over your head. he tucks your hair into the hoodie and tightens the strings a little.
the small gesture feels warmer than anything you’ve ever felt since you left tokyo on that train.
you close your eyes and lean into his touch. he completely envelopes you in his arms and rests his head on top of your chin.
“it’s-it’s not fair. this isn’t right, yuji.”
he can’t say anything. he just holds you tighter and places a hand on the back of your head.
your cries tear through your whole body and you wrap your arms around him. you fist the back of jacket into your hands like he’ll also disappear if you don’t hold on tight enough.
ᥫ᭡₊⊹ˑ𓂃✦.˚೯⁺.
you’re still shaking hours later in some 24 hour diner, your sleeves pulled over your hands and dey tears on your cheeks.
yuji thinks you’re getting sick. you think it’s because junpei and your mom took your heart with them when they left. but you can’t really say that.
you want to just go to sleep. anything to avoid feeling what this is.
your eyes are locked on the table and you can feel yuji staring at you. you shift in your seat and he quickly averts his gaze.
“sorry.” yuji murmurs.
“‘s fine.” you whisper, burying yourself deeper into your hoodie.
the waitress comes to take your orders and you tell yuji to not worry about yours. you know you’re in no mood to eat anything, just to risk it coming all back up.
“are you going back to yokohama?” he asks.
you shrug. “i don’t really want to.” you look up and rests your chin in your hand. “i don’t really fit in there.”
“how so?” you’re sort of surprised he actually wants to listen. but as long as you’ve known yuji he’s always been attentive and caring so it shouldn’t be much of a shocker.
“it’s like i’m forcing my way into a family that i have no place in. my dad started a new life without me. why am i forcing my way back in?” you sigh, swirling your straw around in your cup, watching the ice cubes dance around each other. “he left me for a reason.”
yuji looks down at his own cup, only because he’s fighting the urge to hold your hand. not in a romantic way, but in a “everything’s gonna be alright” way. he wants to make everything better. he doesn’t know how. he knows how to be there though.
“i think you’re more than enough. so much more than however he made you feel.” yuji says.
you lean back in your seat and barely nod in agreement. you don’t know if you’re trying to convince him or yourself. you fold your arms over your chest, trying not to cry in the middle of some greasy diner.
“your brother, um,” he begins and he notices the way something flickers behind your eyes. “junpei, he was supposed to start school with me after winter break.”
“my teacher loves me. and given your… um, circumstances,” your lips curve upwards at his hesitancy. “he’d definitely talk to my principal about it. if you want.”
“about… school?” you ask.
“yeah, school. but we also have dorms at our school. i’d ask if you could room next to me. if you want that. or my friend nobara.”
you stare at him as he keeps rambling and there goes that stupid warmth you felt when you first saw him earlier. how can he find the good in every situation?
“but now that i think about it you’d probably end up in the second year dorms.”
“(name)?”
“oh, sorry.” you swallow, quickly taking a sip of your water to wash down the tears building back up.
“would you want that?”
“yuji…”
“(name), tell me. any way i can help, tell me. please.”
“i would really, really like that.” you catch your teats with your knuckle before they fall and look up at him and it’s the most he’s seen you smile yet.
ᥫ᭡₊⊹ˑ𓂃✦.˚೯⁺.
yuji had to tell gojo at least ten times to not mention junpei at all before you arrived at jujutsu high. he especially said to not point out the strong resemblance between you two.
“i’m not really supposed to be in this wing but this is special.” yuji explains from where he’s walking in front of you.
“right…” you mutter.
“the uniform looks good on you too.” he turns around to look at you and begins walking backwards.
you look down at the uniform skirt peeking out from underneath your hoodie. yuji said he had your teacher design it personally for you. the hem of your skirt is lined with red. yuji’s hood is red.
you hum at the realization that you two are sort of matching. you then look out the window of the hallway you’re walking through. on the field, there’s two girls, a white haired boy, a black haired boy and…
“a panda?” you didn’t mean for that to come out. it was supposed to be an internal thought.
yuji perks up at the sound of your confusion and you both gaze out the window.
“oh yeah!! thats panda! he’s the principal’s son.” the pink haired boy grins and you look at him. “no, really. yaga won’t elaborate.”
“are these our classmates?” you ask.
“the brunette is my classmate. kugisaki nobara. she’s a bully. you’d like her.” you follow his finger as he points to the girl doing cartwheels across the grass.
“maki is a second year. she’s also a bully. you’d like her.” he points to the green haired girl sitting in the grass watching her.
“inumaki is also a second year. everyone likes inumaki.” he says and you look at the white haired boy laying on the grass.
“fushiguro is a first year. he’s my best friend, just don’t tell him i said that.” he grins, pointing to the black haired boy sitting on the grass drinking from a chocolate milk bottle.
“and panda is a…” you still feel weird calling this panda-hybrid-son thing ‘panda’.
“a second year!! he’s just a big ball of smiles and fun and hugs.”
“i can see that…” you mutter and you look up at him.
“you’ll fit in just fine here.” yuji puts his hand on your shoulder, although he knows that’s not your only worry at the moment. he just wants to do anything to distract you from the circumstances.
you don’t admit that the idea of being the new girl all over again makes you a little uneasy. it reminds you of the first time you visited your dad and his family.
but when you look at yuji and he smiles back at you and gives you a thumbs up, you can’t imagine an ounce of what your dad ever made you feel.
your room was at the end of the hallway. you didn’t know it but gojo, the head of the first years and the teacher who apparently loved yuji requested for it to be placed there.
after you got settled in, you two went down to the field where kugisaki, maki, inumaki, and panda were still hanging out together.
“guys! this is (name). she’s new and one of my favorite people so be nice.”
one of his favorite people? your step physically falters at those words and you softly clear your throat.
“hey. nice to meet you all.” you pull the hoodie sleeves over your hands and wave.
as they introduce themselves and sit in a cluster in the grass and begin talking around you, you can’t help but notice how casual they are. they have no idea your whole world fell apart not even a week ago.
everyone’s moved on. everything is still progressing like nothing happened, like the two most important people are gone from this world. life is moving on as it always does. why can’t you?
yuji watches as nobara and panda keep trying to include you in the conversation but you’re just sitting next to him, anxiously chewing on your lip and sinking into the hoodie that once belonged to your brother.
he opens his mouth to whisper to you and reaches out to gently take your fingers in his, when okkotsu approaches the group.
“hi, guys.” the black haired boy says, sitting in between maki and inumaki.
your eyes snap up at the sound of an unfamiliar voice and your gaze immediately lands on the boy sitting across from you.
the black, messy hair. the dark eyes. that same expression.
everything seems to go in slow motion. your heart drops.
the way he slowly relaxes and loses the tension in his shoulders. that sheepish laugh.
you’d give anything to have him back. for it to be junpei sitting across from you instead of okkotsu.
the others are calling your name as you start to walk away. you don’t even know when you got up. all you know is your feet started carrying you away and you let it happen. because you don’t know what you’ll do if you go back. how do you ask a stranger for a hug? for random reassurance?
yuji’s voice is the most distinctive. you can’t bear yourself to turn around. your nose is red and your eyes are watering. you can see your breath in the cold air as you slam the door to the building open and quickly climb up the stairwell.
you’re biting your lip, trying to keep it from trembling as you go further up the staircase. you don’t even know where you’re going. you just move. move away from him. that’s all you can do.
suddenly, you grab onto the wall and let out a breath catching gasp. you squeeze your eyes shut and slowly lower yourself onto the stairs.
why does okkotsu look so much like him? why is he back after leaving you behind in this world? it’s so stupid when you think about it. your own classmate has sent you into a breakdown because he looks like your dead brother.
you press the heels of your hands into your closed eyes, trying to keep the tears from spilling out.
‘stop, stop, stop,’ you tell yourself. stop crying over someone you don’t even know. okkotsu isn’t even aware that you’ve associated him with someone completely gone.
you hear the same door you came through open and close. you look over the railing and see a blur of pink hair below.
you’ve cried in front of yuji at least three times already. but this one feels humiliating. like your pain is being showcased and taunted and torn into something completely irrational.
you sniffle as you climb further up the stairs.
“(name)? are you here?”
you hold onto the railing with both hands, sleeves wet with tears sliding over the miniature golden toad statue installed on the handrail.
“i mean, i saw you come in here.”
“actually, are you okay?”
you can’t even answer him. nothing can come out but tears. you push your hair out of your face after sticking to your cheeks
“(name), please answer me.”
you swallow that tension filled lump in your throat that you’ve been feeling more and more every day. but that doesn’t help. your throat hurts. it feels tighter. it feels like someone has stuck a million pins in you.
is this how it felt for junpei and your mom? when they were burning alive, what were their last thoughts? was it you? or did they think about each other?
did they die holding each other once they realized there was no way out? or did they die in their sleep, junpei asleep with his favorite movie playing on low volume, your mom curled up in her bed after too many drinks and her body warm, both dreaming of the next day when you would come home?
don’t think about that, (name), you think.
“do you want me to give you space?”
“no. no, yuji. just, shit—don’t go.” you choke out, finally stopping and slowly sitting on the steps.
“don’t leave.” you whisper, watching as he finally comes up the stairs and you can see his face soften.
“(name)…” yuji sighs, sitting down next to you. you instantly lean into him as his arm comes up to rub your back.
“i’m sorry,” you begin. “i didn’t mean to leave, i just,” you swallow to hold back your cries. “he looks so much like him.”
you take his arm and hold it with both of your hands, squeezing so hard he thinks you’ll cut off his circulation.
“please tell him i’m sorry.” you don’t know if you mean okkotsu or junpei.
sorry for associating you with a dead person.
sorry for being selfish and leaving you for someone who never wanted me in the first place.
“don’t do that. it’s okay. okkotsu is very understanding. he won’t mind.”
you let out a shaky breath and your eyes flutter closed. you shift and tuck your head beneath yuji’s chin. you can hear his heartbeat beneath the fabric of his winter coat.
you don’t want to admit it, you don’t want to burden him, but really you feel like he’s all you have. the only reliable force still in your life.
“i’ll make sure you’re alright here. i promise.”
ᥫ᭡₊⊹ˑ𓂃✦.˚೯⁺.
nights are easier than before. the first night at jujutsu high, when it was just you alone in your dorm room, curled up next to junpei’s—your hoodie that you refused to wash because it still smelled like him and cigarettes, you stayed up all night.
you just couldn’t stomach the idea of sleeping peacefully. rain hit the glass of your window. every thunderclap made you jump.
you hadn’t been afraid of storms since you were six. that was when your mom worked nights and you’d climb into junpei’s bed instead of her’s because she was gone.
you’d both wake up and nagi would be curled around you, one arm over you and stretching over to hold junpei as well. you’d wake up before both of them to look at the dark circles under her eyes. you’d also look at the faint smile she wore.
that was the thing. no matter how exhausted she was, she never let it change how much she loved you two.
that night you tried to listen to music but you found more comfort in silence. or, as silent as it could get with the weather.
every time you flinched under your blanket, you hugged your pillow tighter. the hoodie was draped over the pillow. at one point it really started to feel like him.
you felt hot tears coming down your cheeks, sliding sideways into your pillow.
you missed your mommy. you missed your brother.
it’s childish, really. you haven’t called her mommy in years.
you wish you had called her mommy one more time. you didn’t know it was going to be the last. one day you just grew out of the name, and the next she was dead.
maybe it was the sleep deprivation getting to you that night, but once you started crying you imagined the pillow half your size was actually a body holding your hand.
that’s how he would soothe you to sleep. at only eight years old, when he should’ve also been crying over the loud storm, he was instead comforting his little sister.
he would hold your hand and talk for hours about anything and everything. mostly about movies. plans to go to the movie theater. asking what kind of books you wanted to read next.
you’d answer, not knowing a few days later that same copy would be sitting on your nightstand when you woke up, waiting for you to run your fingers along the fresh pages and make your own little annotations.
your books.
your books are gone.
it’s all you can think about nowadays.
at least it’s not about junpei or your mom.
somedays you still can’t put it all together. accept the fact that everything you knew is gone. continue a life that they no longer have any part of.
today feels like one of those days.
kugisaki asked if you wanted to go shopping with her and maki earlier. you really wanted to.
you hate being the sad girl. it’s like, why even bother coming to this school just to drown in your own grief? your brain is foggy half the time. you barely learn anything.
you don’t dare talk to okkotsu. not after what happened. it feels like if you open your mouth around him, you’ll say something stupid or like, throw up or something.
you try reading on your phone. it doesn’t do much. you like the feeling of disconnecting. online books are the exact opposite of that feeling you’re chasing.
“hey, sleepyhead.”
you look behind you as you’re rubbing your eyes. yuji is standing there holding two mugs of hot chocolate.
“was wondering when you’d get up.”
“i stayed up all night again.” you softly reply, taking the mug from him. it warms up your palms in the best way.
he stands next to you, looking out one of the bigger windows in the hallway that overlooks the city.
“so, do you, uhhh,” yuji begins and you look at him. he quickly averts his eyes back to the glass. “winter break is starting soon. we’ll be free for around two weeks.”
“what are you trying to say, yuji?” you say, nudging your shoulder with his. he pauses. it might be the most playfulness you’ve shown yet.
“do you wanna go out somewhere and do something?” he asks. you look down at the mug. there’s two marshmallows floating around in there.
“you remembered.” you whisper. he catches it and proudly grins.
“yeah. last year, at that festival.” he chuckles.
“the one where we both got frostbite but junpei somehow didn’t.”
yuji falters again. you never mention them really. you both know that. but when he’s around, everything feels easier.
he has been making things easier. he knows nothing about this is linear. there’s days when you feel like you’re over it, and there’s days when you want to join them in the dirt.
he wants to make everything better. he doesn’t know how. he knows how to be there though.
“can we actually go to a bookstore?”
“definitely!” he answers almost immediately, way too excited. he doesn’t wanna ruin the vibe, so he refrains from saying ‘like a date?’ there’s no denying he’s really happy.
“do you have any in particular that you wanna get?”
junpei liked ‘the perks of being a wallflower’ and ‘carrie’. so that’s what you say. you don’t tell him the reasoning behind it.
“okay. well, you might wanna wear something other than that hoodie.” yuiji teases and you stare blankly at him. “wear a coat over it, i mean. it’s colder than usual.”
right. it’s getting closer and closer to christmas. panda says it’s supposed to snow one of these days.
“okay.” you smile.
at the bookstore, you’re in your element. yuji can tell. you slowly stop talking to him and decide literature is more interesting. he doesn’t blame you. he also likes literature, just animated.
his attention span isn’t long enough to stare at words on a page. you tease him and ask if he wants a picture book and he almost says yes.
yuji simply follows behind you as you scan the aisles. you’ve already gathered three books in your hands and he offers to carry them.
then you’ve suddenly chosen so many it’s getting too much for even him to carry. at that point, he’s instead carrying a handheld basket.
he doesn’t mind. in fact he’s got this huge smile plastered on his face. he didn’t know how much he could love this—just watching you wander around, stare at an item in adoration and heavy thought before handing it to him.
“hey, you two!” you both turn around at the sound of a voice that’s coming from someone tall, lanky, and unbelievably obnoxious.
“sensei!!!” yuji exclaims as gojo walks up to you, holding a cup of iced coffee and a shopping bag.
“you shop here?” you ask, glaring at the bag that says the name of the store you’re in.
“you read?” yuji asks.
“nah,” gojo smirks, pulling out a box of the pink calico critters family picnic van. “this place sells calico critters.”
“i love those!!! where’d you find that?” you ask, practically vibrating from excitement right where you’re standing.
gojo points in the direction behind him and yuji watches you wander off again.
“how is she?” the white haired man asks when you’re out of earshot, suddenly serious.
“better. i think.” yuji says and gojo looks at him, silently telling him to continue. “well, you know, there’s ups and downs. but there’s more good days than bad days now.”
“good.” gojo puts a hand on his shoulder. “i heard that kugisaki and maki invited her to go shopping with them today and she declined.”
“really?”
“and somehow she came out with you. and it’s the most i’ve seen her smile yet.” he looks at the younger boy knowingly.
“hmmm.” yuji hums, oblivious, deep in thought.
“itadori, i know you like her.”
“huh??? i mean, why would you think that? she’s my friend’s little sister—yeah, you caught me.” he sighs in defeat as you begin to make your way back over to them.
“yuji, look!” you smile holding two boxes, the sylvanian families strawberry set and the flora rabbit family set.
“cute.” gojo hums.
“yeah, cute.” yuji says.
“um, yuji, can we go to another store? i wanna get something for kugisaki and maki, to show my appreciation that they thought of me and apologize for being in such a bad mood earlier.”
ᥫ᭡₊⊹ˑ𓂃✦.˚೯⁺.
you feel a little better today. lighter. not in the empty way you usually feel.
gojo said kugisaki loves candy and watermelon, so you got her a handful of watermelon flavored candy because you couldn’t choose just one.
he said maki also loves junk food so you got her a bunch of different chips and candy you hope will last her a while.
you feel lighter after seeing the smiles on their faces. nobara was so excited, she grabbed your hands and started calling you her favorite second year after maki.
maki hugged you. not a casual side hug. she put down the food you gave her and pulled you into her arms. she rubbed your back and rested her chin on your head.
that hug almost triggered something in you. it used to be that whenever someone gave you a soul crushing hug like that, you’d cry. instead you hugged her back and smiled.
you shove your hands into your pockets, quickly getting indoors to escape the cold after a solo walk.
you push your hair out of your face, walking past all the empty classrooms. well, you assume they should be empty since winter break is coming up.
you notice okkotsu sitting on one of the desks, looking out the window. you pause, slowly walking towards the open door.
you barely lean on the doorway. “okkotsu?”
the black haired boy looks up at you.
“oh. hi, (name).”
the silence between you two is heavy. you know there’s something you need to say. he knows that there’s something you’ve been carrying ever since the first day you saw him.
“what are you doing in here alone—“
“i’m sorry.”
you furrow your brows in confusion and take a step forward.
“nobody will really tell me. they keep saying it’s not their place to tell me. all i know is that on that day i made you uncomfortable.”
“okkotsu, you didn’t do anything—“
“that must be why you stormed off, right?” he sheepishly grins. “sorry. again.”
“okkotsu, listen.” you sigh, finally able to get at least a sentence in. “you didn’t do anything.”
you walk over and sit down on one of the desks next to him.
“i can’t believe you don’t know. i thought it would’ve gone all around school by now.” you dryly laugh, already fighting tears, like the wound is too fresh to laugh about.
“(name), are you okay?” okkotsu asks.
“i wasn’t. when we met, i wasn’t okay at all.” you reply. “my brother…”
you look over at okkotsu and almost break. that hopeful expression. that soft, welcoming smile.
“he’s a year and a few months older than me. he likes movies. he’s the best. he takes care of me when our mom can’t.” you blink through the tears.
“he’s quiet even when you get to know him. he’s so different from me and my mom. like he’s always afraid of taking up too much space.”
“he sounds really nice.” okkotsu mutters.
“he is.” you grin, a few tears escaping from your eyes and landing on your hands resting in your lap. “i’m always so careless. he reminds me of things. like my homework… or giving me his jacket when i forget my own.”
“he’s older than us? so he’s graduating soon. or already graduated?”
“okkotsu, he won’t… be graduating.”
okkotsu’s smile barely drops. “what do you mean?”
“my brother and my mom died in a house fire two months ago.”
you feel a hand rest over yours. you don’t look up. you can finally realize that it’s okkotsu and not junpei.
“and he looked like you.” you nod. “he looked so much like you my heart almost broke when i saw you. because i thought you were him.”
“you mean, he looks like me.” okkotsu replies. “don’t talk about him in past tense, (name). he’s not gone. he’s still living on through you. you forget that you’re his sister… which means you also look like him.”
“yeah. i guess,” you sniffle, wiping your tears. “something like that…”
“hey, it’s snowing.”
you two look back at the window and watch as white flurries begin to pile up and coat the ground.
“so panda was right. i guess i owe him money.” okkotsu groans.
junpei loves snow.
ᥫ᭡₊⊹ˑ𓂃✦.˚೯⁺.
“wanna go to a festival together tomorrow???” yuji had asked. it was the middle of the night. he wasn’t supposed to be in the second year dorms hallway. but he said he just had to talk to you.
“this can’t wait till morning.” he explained.
“huh?” you hummed, groggy from sleep. you checked the date and time on your phone. it was 2 am, december 24th. “yuji, it’s so late…”
“i know, i know.” he couldn’t hide his smile. he was just so happy. about a lot of things, really.
even though he had woken you up from your sleep, it seemed like it was a good one. you looked like you couldn’t wait to go back to sleep. he remembered the time where you’d go days without sleeping.
not because you wanted to, but because you couldn’t bear seeing them in your dreams and having to wake up to the harsh truth that they’re gone.
he was also happy because december 24th was the most romantic day of the year. you were still half asleep so you hadn’t realized yet, but he had gotten help from panda, kugisaki, maki, and okkotsu to help plan this.
all you had to do was say yes.
and god, he hoped you would.
“you’re gonna get caught, i hope you know that…” you groaned, rubbing your eye.
“so? might as well give me an answer now.” he grinned, suddenly taking your hand in his.
“uh,” you looked down at your joined hands. “okay, yeah. i want to go to a festival tomorrow.”
“okay, great!!! be ready by five pm!”
and with that he hurried off back to his own dorm. you watched him until you could no longer see him in the dark hallway, peering over the corner with a small smile. then you shut the door behind you and immediately curled back up in bed, your red hoodie on the pillow next to you.
it wouldn’t be until you woke up that you realized he basically asked you on a date.
hours later, seeing you all bundled up to protect yourself from the frosty cold makes heat rise to yuji’s cheeks in a way that he has never felt before.
you wave at him as you rush over, slightly shaking from the weather.
“are you warm enough?” yuji asks.
“i should be asking you that!” you point to his bare hands. “where are your gloves?” you grab his hands and put yours on the outside of his.
“i, uh, forgot them,” he explains. “kugisaki must’ve taken them.” he watches as you rub your mittens along his hands, warming them up.
“that’s very careless of you, yuji.” you smile up at him and he swears his heart stutters for a second. “well, let’s go buy you some.” you tug him by his hand.
“yes, mom.” he rolls his eyes with a smile.
after you purchased gloves for yuji and helped him slip them on, you two walk around, pointing out the ice sculptures illuminated by colorful lights.
at some point, your hand slipped into his with the excuse of staying warm.
“woahhhh. look at that tree!” yuji exclaims, pulling on your hand.
you both look up at the fourteen meter tall christmas tree, with tons of decorative ornaments, shining and glowing in the night sky.
“we can make our own ornaments.” you say. “do you wanna put them on the tree?”
“why don’t we make them for each other? i promise i won’t do it bad.” he grins.
“okay.” you nod.
you two go to one of the stalls where you can decorate your own ornaments and stand across from each other. you shield your ornament from him with your hand after he tries to look over one too many times.
“yuji, stop.” you try to hold in your laughter.
“i’m just trying to get an idea!!” he whines. he then notices a container of some decorations and suddenly goes quiet, getting to work.
you fill your ornament with tons of green glitter and green sequins and seal the lid on it. you decide to make keroppi from sanrio because yuji reminds you of him.
you paint the white eyeballs and while you wait for the eyes to dry, you draw his pink cheeks and signature smile. you look up at yuji who is staring at his creation in intense concentration.
you lean over, catching eye of stars and pearls before yuji notices you looking.
“hey, get back.” the pink haired boy nudges your shoulder.
“looks nice.” you say, turning back to your ornament. you paint the final touches, two black dots before waiting for it to dry. you grab a hook and latch it onto the ornament, smiling in satisfaction.
“hey, i’m done.” you look up at yuji who is holding his ornament in his hands behind him.
“me too. reveal?” you nod, presenting your big-eyed, green frog ornament with a smile.
yuji has made an ornament that looks like the christmas tree you two saw. he used three seashells of different sizes, glued them together, and glued pearls on each of them. at the top he glued a small orange seashell to be the star on the tree.
“yuji!!! i love it.” you gently hand him his, careful not to break it.
“i tried my best.” he sheepishly chuckles, his cheeks and nose red, obviously trying not to get flustered. “but this is cute. i always watched these cartoons on vhs growing up.” he explains as he looks at yours.
“you remind me of him.” you explain as you grab a small bag, placing both of the ornaments in the bag. “cheerful, energetic, cute, loyal,”
“wait, what was that third one?” his lips curl into a smile as he pulls you closer to him.
“ummmm,” you hum, and grab his jaw, pushing him away. you look away and spot a food stand. “i’m hungry!!!”
“okay!” he grabs your hand and you both walk around, deciding what food to get. you both try lots of different foods, including western christmas treats.
yuji gets a reindeer brownie, it’s triangular with frosting for the eyes and red frosting for the nose. you get a chewy rice cake decorated with red and white frosting. it’s supposed to be santa clause.
“i think the one with the red nose is named rudolph,” you point to his brownie. “is it good?” you ask.
“mhm, yeah,” yuji nods, biting into his brownie then holding it out towards you. “want some?”
“really?” you ask and he nods harder. you lean forward, taking a small bite and red frosting smears on your cheek.
“(name), you have…” he laughs, pointing to his cheek.
“i have what??”
“picture!!!” a random voice shatters the bliss of the moment and you instinctually move closer to yuji. a man steps in front of you two with a camera. “picture for the lovely couple?”
“ummmm, but my face…!” you begin and you feel yuji throw his arm over your shoulders.
the white flash from the camera makes you jump and you never get to wipe the frosting from your face. how embarrassing.
as the bright light faded away, you rapidly blink as yuji leans forward, taking the printed picture from the man.
“look, (name).” the pink haired boy shoves the picture in your face. “hey, can we get two of these?”
in the picture, you’re pressed into yuji’s side, slightly squinting, nose and cheeks reddened from the cold, frosting on your cheek and lips as his arm is stretched over you and he’s smiling.
“yuji, i look so stupid!!!” you whine, finally wiping your face.
“stop it, you’re cute.” yuji says, tugging you closer. “one copy for you and one for me.”
“i’m hiding this.” you sigh.
“so you won’t display the first picture of us together?” he smirks, leaning down and taking a bite of your chewy rice cake.
“well… i mean, is it good?” you ask as he chews and nods in approval.
“you have good taste.”
within the next two hours, you and yuji have walked around at least three times, making sure you’ve visited every stand that caught your eye.
he begins to lead you by your hand up a hill where other couples are also sitting together.
“they’re having a fireworks show.” yuji explains with an excited look.
you two sit down next to each other and watch as people below start to disperse and also make their way up the hill.
for the first time tonight it falls silent between you two and you look at him. the lantern pole near you two illuminates his features, his sharp jawline, his wide, expressive eyes, the faint smile he has as he’s waiting for the fireworks to start.
you barely scoot closer, wrapping your hands around his. you slowly put your head on his shoulder, testing the waters before completely resting your head.
“yuji…” you mutter.
“hmm?”
“thank you.”
you feel him turn his head and you don’t dare look at him.
“for what?” he asks, looking down at you.
“you know. being a friend. being here. especially in these last few months.” you explain, swallowing. “i wouldn’t have made it this far without you. i’d probably be in yokohama right now living a life i didn’t want to live, or a runaway.”
“you’d really run away?” yuji lightly scoffs followed by a laugh.
“anything’s better than being with my dad.” you curl closer to him and look down at your lap at the thought of him. you’ve always been worried about boys ending up treating you just like your dad.
but then yuji came when you least expected it, and showed you something you had never experienced before.
“thanks for helping me with that too.”
“really, it’s okay, (name), it’s the right thing to do.”
you lift your head up and look at him, clenching your jaw. is he just being nice or something more?
“yuji. you could’ve left me to grieve by myself a long time ago,” one of your hands travel further up his arm. “but you didn’t. you stayed. with me. the ‘sad girl’.”
“because i care about you.” he replies. “you’re not the sad girl. nobody looks at you and thinks ‘that’s the girl who’s sad all the time.’ i especially don’t.”
you try to hold in your smile at that last sentence. “i-i care about you too… yuji.” you mumble.
the first firework explodes behind his head but neither of you can pull away from each other’s gaze. the pink and purple sparks dancing behind his head make him look even more attractive.
“last year, my grandpa died and his final wish was for me to help others. that’s all he wanted. for me to help others, save whoever i can, and spend my life surrounded by people.” he says barely above a whisper.
you swallow and nod, urging him to continue. all these weeks you spent venting, the least you can do is listen to him now.
“even if they’ll never thank me. he wanted me to save as many as i can.”
“yuji… your grandpa would be so proud of you right now.” you smile. “look at you. you did exactly what he wanted. you saved me.”
more fireworks erupt in the sky behind you two and he laughs, dropping his forehead against yours.
“don’t say it like that, (name)…”
“it’s true. i was hopeless.” you whisper. “i was depressed. i was considering joining them.”
he puts a hand on your thigh without pulling away from you.
“that’s how much i was hurting. there’s no denying that it still hurts, but being with you… makes everything so, so much more better.” you choke back tears and sigh.
“now i understand why junpei got so much more lively when you came around.”
“because you did the same for me. you gave my life meaning again.” you rest your hand on his shoulder.
yuji lifts his hand to rest on your cheek, then the nape of your neck.
“can i…?”
“yes, yuji.” you chuckle. “yes, you can kiss me.”
he quickly closes the space between you, like he’s been waiting for that confirmation this whole time. he pulls you closer and you smile against his lips.
his thumb wipes away a stray tear and you put both of your hands on his shoulders. he pulls away, kissing your cheek and temple a few more times.
“you’re amazing, (name).” he plants a kiss on your cheek. “i mean it. i’ll make sure to stay by your side and help you forever.”
you look at him as he continues, wrapping your arms around his neck as he pulls you impossibly closer to him.
“even when it gets really bad, or on days when it’s really good. i’ll be there.”
“you wanna know something?” you lean closer, murmuring against his skin, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
“i think junpei would be glad that i ended up with you.”
and from wherever he’s watching over you two, he definitely is.

a/n : i pulled an all nighter finishing this, im so jetlagged, please let me know if u liked it!!!
This is the cutest work i've read this week. Was literally on the train on my way to Uni reading this and didn't want to get off the train and have to stop reading this 🥹😭
୭⋆*。 ₊̣̇.ෆ.₊̣̇. ୨୧ – bf!megumi fushiguro won’t admit it but he’d do anything for u, especially when you’re sick ˃̵ᴗ˂̵˚♡˚‧⁺༄
he knew something was up when you weren’t spamming him with good morning texts. he also knew something was up when you didn’t even respond to the text he sent before class.
megumi stands in front of your dorm, knocking three times before pulling away. he’s sure twenty full seconds pass before it opens and he’s met with your pale, half-asleep face.
you have the worst case of bedhead he’s ever seen. worse than gojo or itadori. and you’re not dressed. class starts in forty five minutes and you’re–
“sorry i didn’t respond…” you mumble. “can you tell gojo i can’t make it today?”
“what’s wrong?” megumi asks as you move out of the way, letting him step further inside your room.
you say something he doesn’t quite catch as you curl back up in your bed and bury yourself in the covers.
he sits down next to your feet and stares at you before saying anything. you’re usually so energetic. gojo’s always making fun of you two for being polar opposites. kugisaki is still confused on how he pulled you even months later.
but right now you just look… small. feverish. groggy.
megumi reaches out and rests his hand on the back of your forehead.
“hm.”
“what?”
“you definitely have a temperature.” he starts to pull away the covers from your shoulder and you whine, holding them with a death grip force that you don’t even use in training.
“(name), don’t start. you already know what i’m going to say.”
“megumi, i’m freakin’ cold.” you groan.
“the opposite actually. you’re overheating.” he replies, tugging the thick duvet away from you with one final pull as you give up and flop back down on the bed.
“stop. it’s too early for you to–” you’re interrupted by one of those crunchy ipad kid coughs and he almost immediately shifts away from you as you cough into your elbow. “...be flustering me.”
at least you still have a little humor. so your fever can’t be that bad.
but everyone knows you have the immune system of a victorian child and megumi personally knows how bratty you get when you’re sick.
he hears you choke on a breath and suddenly gets even more attentive, if that’s even possible. “is your nose stuffy?”
“gumi, am i a chud???”
“what.”
“i can’t breath out of my nose. i’m becoming a mouth breather. my poor jawline...” you sniffle.
“i’m gonna be in one of those bp edits. i’m dropping to a sub 5.” megumi just stares at your back in disbelief. he can’t believe he actually knows what you’re referencing.
“(name), that better be the fever talking.”
“anyway, you have class.” you wave him off and he pulls his brows together in confusion. there goes that attitude you love so much.
“yeah but you’re sick.” he sighs as he stands up.
“just leave your girlfriend to freeze.”
there it is. the dramatics.
“okay well, god forbid i want to help you break your fever instead of making it worse.” he scans your room and finds a lighter blanket laying over your vanity. it doesn’t help that you’re in one of his hoodies but he already knows you’ll refuse to take that off.
“ieiri would be proud.” you weakly smile as he drapes the blanket over you. now he finally gets to have a good look from where he’s leaning over you. “now, go. avenge me.”
“shut up.” he nudges your forehead with a small laugh then tucks your hair behind your ears and out of your face.
“i’ll come back during break with medicine.” he turns around and walks open to your window, cracking it open halfway to let the breeze in.
you respond with a weak whine in protest.
“you have to get better. people actually like you which is hard to believe.” he grabs the water bottle on your dresser, shaking it. it’s almost full. good.
“hey.”
“try not to get worse. just rest up and hydrate and if you’re gonna do anything while i’m gone, take off my hoodie. no more layers. you’re not cold, (name) no matter what your stupid brain tells you–”
megumi turns around and sees you out cold again, a wet spot of drool already forming on your pillow. he walks over and sighs, lifting up your hand.
he presses a kiss to your knuckles since it’s really the only place he can kiss without contracting whatever mystery disease you have. then he leaves with one final glance at your sleeping form before quietly closing your door.
“where’s (name)?” gojo asks and megumi closes his eyes and sighs before responding.
“she’s sick. she told me to tell you she won’t be able to make it today.” megumi says.
“noooo!!!” nobara exclaims, dropping her head onto her desk. “that means i’m stuck with you three morons all day.”
“well, (name) was my favorite anyways.” gojo replies.
megumi pinches the skin between his eyebrows. “how old are you again?”
“i thought i was your favorite!!” yuji gasps in betrayal.
“okay, okay… how about you’re all my favorites?”
“it doesn’t work that way!!!”
megumi’s just counting down the hours until he gets back to you. he just hopes you haven’t gotten worse.
he bought snacks from the vending machine and got medicine and painkillers and a thermometer from ieiri who said to tell you she hopes you get better. he speedwalks all the way to your dorm, not even knocking before stepping in.
the window is still open so he assumes you stayed in bed all morning. then he looks over at you and sees probably two more layers of blankets over you.
“(name)...” megumi sighs, placing all the stuff he got on your nightstand. he shakes your water bottle and it’s half full. he would’ve preferred for it to be empty since you apparently had so much energy to get more blankets.
he sits on the edge of the bed, gently shaking you awake. you stir and groan and press your face into your pillow. you can barely breathe out of your nose and you feel like such a chud for breathing through your mouth.
“(name), it’s me. i’m back.” you turn towards the sound of his voice and reach for his hand all without opening your eyes. it makes him just barely smile and scoot closer to you but the soft moment quickly disappears.
“why do you have more blankets?” he deadpans.
“i’m cold…” you huff, peeling your eyes open. it takes a second for you to adjust to the light and he is helping you sit upright against your headboard.
“you’re sabotaging your health, i hope you know that.” megumi shakes his head, grabbing the electric thermometer and switching it on. he looks up when he doesn’t hear a snarky comment.
you’re just sitting there looking down at your hands tucked into the hoodie sleeves. he didn’t know it was possible to look any smaller and he means this with love. he knows you’ve gotten worse.
he lifts your chin towards him with two fingers and keeps them there as he presses the cold surface of the thermometer to your forehead. he tries to avoid your gaze as he watches the numbers immediately shoot up.
the screen on the thermometer reads two temperature scales: 38.9 degrees celsius or 102 degrees fahrenheit. either way your fever hasn’t done anything but spiked up.
megumi pulls away and shows you the numbers.
“ieiri suspects its the flu.” he watches your features soften and you groan, burying your face in the blanket.
“hey, hey, no,” he grabs your shoulders, keeping you sitting up. “none of that. that’s what’s making you worse.”
“i just wanna sleep.” you say barely above a whisper, clearing your throat full of mucus.
“i know, baby.” the black haired boy grabs a pill bottle for fever reducing and shakes two into his palm. he’s so thankful that none of this medicine is liquid or he’d be here for hours.
“take these.”
you reach for the pills and stare at them before swallowing both back to back. he hands you your water bottle and intensely stares as you take a few sips.
“these too.”
he gives you two painkillers because he’s imagining your muscles are terribly aching right now. you pop those in your mouth and chase them with more water.
“are you hungry?” he asks, placing a bag of mini cookies in your lap. you shake your head and glare at them.
“i’m not hungry.” you sigh.
“i have more stuff.” megumi mutters and you look up at him. you lift your hand and cup his cheek with it.
“you really didn’t have to… i just don’t have an appetite right now, megs.” you weakly smile.
“i’m leaving them for when you do have an appetite.” he checks the time on his phone and sighs at the thought of having to leave you. you notice his expression just barely change and you sink further into the covers.
“please take off the hoodie.” he suddenly turns to you.
“no!”
“(name), you’ll only get worse. i’m trying to help you.”
“i’m cold.” you fold your arms over your chest.
“i’ll… give you one of my newer ones. with my cologne sprayed on it.”
you look a little less angry at that. “i want it by tonight.”
of course you do, megumi thinks.
he helps you slide the hoodie off, leaving you in a tank top and he tosses it in the farthest corner of your room and he catches the way you look at him.
“so you don’t get any ideas.” he says as he tucks you into bed with one less blanket. “i’ll be back in a few hours.”
“with my hoodie?”
“with your hoodie.”
when megumi leaves all you can do is sleep. you wake up almost every hour and a half and nothing. except this time you hear your door open and close with the sounds of kugisaki and itadori laughing and running down the halls.
you roll over and open your eyes to see him standing in front of your bed, shrugging off the hoodie he brought you.
“you even wore it on the way here.” you smile, reaching for it.
“hey, sleepyhead.” megumi pushes your hair out of your face. “are you feeling any better?”
“a little.” you answer. he kneels next to your bed in front of you, folding his arms over the bed. you scoot closer, abandoning his hoodie and you card your fingers through his hair. “are you okay?”
“just… gojo being annoying again.” he closes his eyes and leans into your touch.
“megumi fushiguro.”
“i was worried about you.” he folds under zero pressure, resting his chin on the mattress.
“i’ll be fine eventually, you know me.” you whisper.
“yeah i do know you. your fever would probably be ten degrees higher without me.”
“true.”
the truth is megumi hates seeing you this way and knowing there’s nothing he can do about it. he wants your sickness to go away in a second, not in a few days.
your eyes are glassy and your nose is red and your cheeks are flushed. and worse, he wants to kiss you but he can’t.
he’s never seen you frown so much in one day. there’s a pout on your face right now as you refuse to look at him.
you just want to be vulnerable with him and let him hold you and maybe cry a little. the flu sucks.
he leans back, making a hand sign you know all too well. you sit up a little at the sight and he smiles at you.
“rabbit escape?” you ask.
“they always cheer you up.” megumi replies softly before calling the rabbits. one appears in your lap, then one right in front of you.
he watches you light up almost immediately, cooing as you scoop one into your arms. more begin to materialize on your bed and then on the floor when your bed gets too crowded.
you still look terrible, he won’t lie, but you look happier. like the energetic girl you usually are is slowly making her way back up to the surface. he takes your free hand in his and runs his thumb over your skin.
“thank you for taking care of me, megumi. i know i can be a handful.” you grin as you press a kiss to one of the bunny’s fur.
“this time wasn’t that bad,” he replies, smug as ever. “remember december?”
“i’d rather not.”

୭⋆*。 ₊̣̇.ෆ.₊̣̇. ୨୧ – the sun is husband!satoru gojo’s biggest enemy ˃̵ᴗ˂̵˚♡˚‧⁺༄
includes : reader is implied to be naturally melanated!!!
━✧˖° ʚ🌠ɞ ✧・゚ : *✧ ・゚: *. ・ ・゚: ೃ࿔ *:・ *·˚ ᝰ̟۟
it has nothing to do with him.
although he is unbelievably pale and you have to reapply sunscreen on him every hour and a half just so he doesn’t evaporate, satoru’s beef with the sun is because of a whole different person: you.
the first day of summer always starts off the same.
you tanning in your shared backyard by the pool, sunglasses over your face, in the tiniest bikini you own for the best tan lines. it’s three pm and you started this almost two hours ago.
an amount of time satoru considers to be insane. he’d disintegrate in that heat, especially with a uv index of 9.
another thing satoru considers insane is that you have assigned him to only use lotion sunscreen because he needs all the coverage and protection he can get while you get the luxury of spraying yourself within a minute and being immune to the sun for hours.
growing up with the childhood he’s had, it’s completely reasonable to be a little… unreasonable. you’re the most precious thing to him. he cares deeply about your health. which is why when you’re tanning, you pretend to not notice how he keeps checking on you every thirty minutes.
“you okay, baby?” he calls from where he is in the pool, leaning against the wall to admire you and your shiny legs.
“perfect.” you reply.
“are you overheating?”
“no.”
“well you look sweaty.”
“that means it’s working, toru!!”
he doesn’t blame you at all. you’ve spent your whole life in the sun. you’re used to it. it feels more like a family member rather than the source of light for an entire galaxy.
if left unsupervised you and satoru both know you could spend hours stretched out on a lounge chair, book forgotten, eyes peacefully closed as you lay in direct sun exposure like a housecat.
a very elegant housecat, satoru thinks.
he notices everything so there’s no surprise when he looks over and sees that you’ve fallen asleep while tanning again. everyone could use some sleep so he lets you rest, assuming you’ll wake up within a few minutes.
ten minutes pass. then twenty. then almost forty five, but he’s not paying that much attention. the stopwatch on his phone says otherwise but that doesn’t matter. what does matter is you’re a few seconds from becoming a baked chicken.
satoru narrows his eyes as he stands over the lounge chair, looking down at you. your skin doesn’t look burnt. the opposite actually. melanin-rich, tanned, smooth and shiny from sunscreen and a light layer of sweat.
but in his opinion you’d been out here long enough.
a dip in the pool never hurt anyone.
he gently taps your shoulder, calling your name. you only stir and wake up when you feel the warmth of the sun suddenly disappear as he leans further over you like a human shield.
“hm?” you hum.
“pool.”
“what?”
“pool time.”
you don’t even get to respond before you’re being scooped into his arms, one arm supporting your back and one arm under your legs.
you also know of his little habit to worry when spring fades into summer and the outdoors slowly become more appealing to you. it’s a little funny but it’s also your husband’s way of showing how much he cares.
in his own weird, borderline obsessive way.
the change of temperature immediately wakes you up as the cold water hits your stomach. satoru wades around with you in the deep end, letting you get used to the chill.
“you know, i was sleeping.” you say, slowly submerging yourself deeper in the water. you won’t admit it but after being in the sun for long it does feel refreshing.
“i didn’t know i was such a bad husband for saving you.” he dramatically grumbles and you swim over to him.
“what? saving me from what?” you laugh as you put your hands on his shoulders, bringing him down to your level in the water.
“the sun. obviously.” he pouts and points upwards as if the sun could hear you two talking about it.
you roll your eyes, pulling him closer. you had been with satoru for so long you know all his tells by now. he’s the clingiest man you’ve ever met. he needs approximately seventeen hugs all before noon to function properly.
“i guess i’m done for the day.” you smile and loop two fingers under the shoulder strap of your bikini top, revealing your tan line.
“perfect. that should last the rest of the summer.” satoru grins.
“no!! it’ll start fading by june. you know this.”
“then it’s back to the oven.” he sighs followed by a loud groan. you chuckle, wrapping yourself around him. you rest your head against your shoulder as he rubs circles into your back.
“for the record, maybe you shouldn’t refer to sitting in the sun as sitting in an oven.”
“it’s metaphorical.”
“i don’t think you used that right.” you pull back and look at him, sliding your sunglasses out of your face to sit perched in your hair.
“please, you don’t even remember what that means.” he grins at you, smug as can be.
“neither do you!” you exclaim and splash him, wiping that smirk right off his face.

your mothers did everything together. they were college roommates. they moved next door to each other in adulthood. they had their daughters six months apart.
so inevitably, yuki tsukumo has been your best friend ever since you opened your eyes and saw her in the hospital room right next to you.
you two grew up attached to the hip and your mothers wouldn’t have it any other way. although, maybe you two were too attached, and your mothers were to blame for enabling this.
when you both were just babies and had just been born, you two spent so much time together that you got used to sleeping next to each other during naps.
after your mothers snapped multiple pictures from every angle possible and gushed over them, yuki’s mom suddenly decided it was time to go back home.
when you stirred awake and saw yuki’s mom carrying her to the front door, you started crying so loud it could’ve shook the walls.
and because you cried, yuki cried too.
the adults accepted defeat from two infants and put yuki back down on the blanket next to you. you two were silent for the rest of the day besides the occasional giggles and random baby talk.
a few years later, yuki learned how to walk before you. which was bad. because any toddler who has just discovered that their legs can take them anywhere they want become endless adventurers.
yuki was jumping around, using her legs like they hadn’t been there ever since she was born. she’d run to you, who was standing by the couch, holding onto it to help you stay standing. then she’d run to her mom and bury her face in her legs.
the same two people. over and over again. until yuki excitedly ran down the hallway and it took a few seconds for her to come back.
your lip began to tremble when you saw yuki disappear and you couldn’t immediately follow after her. your mom took your tiny hands in hers and helped you walk to the end of the hallway.
when yuki rounded the corner she nearly bumped into you. you were both startled for a second and erupted into laughter, reaching for each other.
safe to say, you ultimately learned how to walk by forming the connection that you couldn’t be with yuki if you couldn’t walk.
once you both learned movement you were unstoppable. every day it was either one of you climbing through the side gate that separated your houses to get to the other one.
the adults would find you with yuki eating fruit snacks on the kitchen floor or yuki with you in your room playing with monster high dolls.
at the beginning every school year, teachers were optimistic and determined to help you two be less dependent on each other.
it started with putting you two in different activity groups. one nice, soft spoken teacher would lead you by the hand to the chalkboard while another teacher led yuki to a story circle on the rug with her other classmates.
every time that situation ended in you trying to cross the room and yuki just staring until the teachers reunited you two.
in elementary school teachers would seat you two separately.
it could be as far away as opposite sides of the room diagonal from each other and you would still make faces at each other and convince the whole class to help you pass notes to each other.
one day during recess, yuki broke her arm when trying to show you a trick she learned on the monkey bars. she had to go to the hospital and you wanted to go with her, but you couldn’t.
that day you were lonely. you refused to interact with anyone else and you made sure it was known.
when someone tried to sit next to you at lunch, you told them the seat was reserved for yuki.
when someone wanted to partner up with you for a class activity, you said you were saving the spot for yuki to be your partner.
it was so obvious that your teacher had to pull you aside.
“honey, you know yuki’s not coming back today, right?”
“but i need a partner…”
“it’s okay to choose other people just for now. i’m sure she’d understand—“
“but yuki is my partner.”
neither of you two knew that exact sentence would come true years later.
sleepovers had always been mandatory. it was never a discussion between you two.
“sleep over by mine and borrow my clothes! then i’ll go by yours tomorrow!!”
and that was how it had always been.
when you and your family took a trip to another city to visit your extended family, yuki was like a widow.
she stayed in bed and on the rare occasion that she did leave her room, she dramatically fainted everywhere like a victorian lady who just lost her husband.
meanwhile, you snapped pictures of everything you saw.
cute pastries you ate. a claw machine where you won two matching stuffed animals for you and yuki. a black and white bird on a powerline. stray cats cuddled up together on the sidewalk.
“you’re gonna run out of storage before we get back home.” your mom gently teased.
“yuki would like this.” you nodded.
junior high became worse for everyone involved because now there were feelings besides just friendship that were blooming.
you and yuki would go shopping and give each other honest feedback on clothes you tried on.
“that color washes you out.”
“look at the bottom, those pants are dragging on the floor.”
“get the cropped version so we can match.”
“you look pretty.”
yuki would always pull you into dressing rooms with her under the guise that she needed your help zipping up something.
neither of you addressed it but your hands lingered on her back long after you were done and she kept staring at you behind her through the mirror.
the summer before high school you two went to a baseball game. yuki kept you sitting close to her with the excuse that she needed to make sure you didn’t get hit by a ball.
she noticed how you kept staring at one of the players and something in her broke a little that day.
she wasn’t sure what hurt more: the fact that you didn’t even notice her smile fall or the idea that you might like someone else other than her.
that was the day yuki realized that you were both girls. well, of course, she always knew that. but she realized you were supposed to be best friends and nothing more.
you couldn’t be nothing more.
a few weeks later yuki came over to your house asking her to get ready for a date with a guy. she gushed over how he was already in high school and how he was so cool. she never said one thing about his appearance.
you helped straighten her hair and helped her choose an outfit to wear and gave her your favorite lipgloss.
“what’s this for?” she asked when you handed it to her.
“just… in case you guys, y’know.” you muttered and looked off to the side, trying to hide your slight irritation.
there was no way she couldn’t tell. you hoped she couldn’t tell. it would be so embarrassing.
it was unnatural. you grew up hearing stories about how one day you’d have a husband and kids and a white picket fence.
what about the story where you don’t marry? what about the story where you stay neighbors with your best friend forever?
maybe she just didn’t see you the way you saw her. good for her. you’d never want her to experience laying awake every night wondering why you couldn’t just be normal.
“kiss?”
“well, yeah, duh.”
“i don’t know how to do that!” yuki started panicking and you grabbed onto her shoulders. “let me practice on you before he picks me up!”
“what?!”
“come on, he’ll be here in like two minutes!!!”
you glared at her before eventually giving in.
“okay… fine.”
you two stared at each other, wondering who would make the first move. you pulled your hands away from her shoulders and fidgeted with your fingers.
yuki looked so pretty just standing there. but you knew it would be so gross. so disgusting. you imagined how she’d pull away when she realized what she had done and say “i’m not into that kind of stuff.”
but what you didn’t know was that yuki was only going on this date to prove something. not to anyone else, but herself. that she could be normal if she tried hard enough. that everything would be fixed and her feelings for you would go away.
the honk of a car horn broke the silence between you two. yuki silently nodded before walking out of your room. you heard the front door close behind you and your heart sank to your stomach.
you fell to the floor and buried your face in your hands. why were you this way? why can’t you be like everyone else? why can’t you feel the same way for a boy as you do for her?
was something inside you rotten? that had to be it. girls your age attracted guys so easily. they wanted those guys. they sought them out.
the only thing you’ve ever wanted was to feel the warmth of yuki’s skin against yours.
holding hands. brushing your fingertips against each other when you exchange pencils. laughing together and hugging each other.
“honey, what’s wrong?” you looked up and saw your mom standing in your doorway. “why are you crying?”
you didn’t even realize. your mom slowly sits down next to you and you curl away from her.
would she be just as disgusted with you as you are with yourself?
“did something happen between you and yuki?”
that was exactly it.
you didn’t even have to say anything. your mom noticed from the way your eyes started welling up with tears all over again.
she noticed all the times you stared at yuki like she created your entire world. she noticed all the times you cried and had a bad mood whenever yuki was gone.
she noticed. all she did was notice.
and now that she was sitting next to you, she couldn’t imagine the way you felt. finally realizing that these feelings were stronger than what you had ever imagined.
it scared you. she knew it did.
“baby, you know i love you, right? no matter what decision you make. i’ll support you forever. you are exactly who you’re meant to be.” your mom pushed your hair out of your face to reveal the dry tears on your cheek.
“okay…” you whispered.
that night, yuki knocked on your window. she never came in through your window. it was always through the side gate.
when you walked up to the window you noticed her face was red and she looked like she had been crying. you quickly slid open the window and helped her climb inside.
“are you okay?” you asked, keeping your distance from her.
“i just froze up.” yuki said and you fell silent. “(name), he tried to kiss me!!! i couldn’t lean in, i couldn’t close my eyes, i couldn’t do anything but just stand there!”
“why? do you not like him or something? ‘cause it’s… it’s okay if you don’t, yuki. it’s—“
“no, you don’t understand! i didn’t wanna kiss him! i don’t wanna kiss anyone!” the blonde sat down on your bed and you sat down next to her.
“i don’t wanna kiss anyone, (name).” she rested her head on your shoulder and her tears started getting the fabric of your shirt wet.
“you don’t have to kiss anyone, yuki. you don’t have to do something you don’t want to.” you said.
“i know. i just… don’t wanna kiss anyone but you.” she lifted up her head and looked at you. “you’re it for me.”
you swallowed a huge lump in your throat and didn’t dare look away from her. you felt heat rise to your cheeks and you blinked away the tears.
“i-i’m… huh?” you sputtered in disbelief. you felt the same way, of course, but it was just so hard to imagine that this was actually happening.
“i love you.” yuki shuffled closer to you and grabbed your hands.
“i love you too…”
“no, not in that way. i love you.”
you exhaled a shaky breath and opened your mouth but nothing came out.
“i realized it today. especially when he tried to kiss me. i froze up because it wasn’t you. (name),” she put her hands on your shoulders.
“kissing him would’ve felt like a betrayal to you.”
you still couldn’t speak. not until her eyes started getting glassy and bloodshot and you realized for her no answer was starting to look like the answer.
“no, no, no, don’t cry.” you said, wrapping your hands around her forearms.
“then say something. anything. if you think i’m weird then just say that! don’t leave me guessing, (name), please.”
“i don’t think you’re weird.” you answered. “because i-i love you too. a lot more than normal.”
“okay.” she nodded, slowly backing away. instead she took your hands in both of hers. “okay, okay, okay…”
“yeah. okay.” you looked down, trying to hide your smile but she noticed.
“can i kiss you?” yuki whispered, squeezing your hands.
“mhm.” you nodded and smiled as she leaned towards you. she pressed a brief kiss on your lips and rested her forehead against yours.
“we’re not weird, okay?” she muttered.
three years ago you and your girlfriend shared your first kiss and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
even as you two go to school together and get the occasional looks from people who haven’t known you for years.
most people don’t look twice when yuki grabs your hand in the hallway or when you pass cheesy love notes to each other in class.
things technically improved. neither of you cry when you get separated from each other anymore. but you still look for each other first in every room, still sleep better together than apart, still texted just minutes after seeing each other.
although you still get a little upset when you have to walk home by yourself when yuki gets caught up with work or student council things.
all of your friends treat it like they always have. because you two have always been inseparable. nothing has changed.
except now you get to call yuki your best friend and your girlfriend.

strangers (ongoing) by @yenayaps ; this fic will hit you hard cos jfc this is a truck of ANGST. i’ve never wanted eternal happiness and peace for two people so badly in my life. geto and reader have grown distant after a miscarriage and are in the process of learning & choosing to love each other again, and it makes me wanna bawllll. their arguments and thoughts are so grounded and feel incredibly real, making this fic all the more immersive and making the angst pack a few extra punches. i think about the diabolical restaurant scene once a month at least 😭
no. one party anthem (ongoing) by @indiewritesxoxo ⁴ ; this rockstar suguru right here is one i would suck right off the bone like hes a box of chicken wings. girl dad? charmer of the year n hes slick wit it too? fwb!suguru (ongoing?) by @eraserbread ² ; elly’s prose is to die for and her word choice is so unique too so her works are always a treat to the soul. the way she writes geto.. mm… truly a five course meal. need geto and reader to communicate and stop trying to win the nonchalant-off (they’re both failing to be nonchalant). i’m shaking them. god i wanna smash these two together like barbie dolls 😢 (😏). let me get my wallet because it must be illegal to read this piece of art for FREEEEE?
lazy sunday morning and whispers in the library (complete) on ao3 ; going from domestic intimacy and first times in the first fic to some freaky exhibition shit in the second fic… yeaaaah this is my bread and butter. geto is SO romantic and sweet in these installments, especially the first part 😪 this geto needs to be in my bed by yesterday or i’m hanging myself by the ears on the nearest tower

darling (complete) on ao3 ; the second i saw black reader x musician geto i knew this would be amazing. AND IT IS! op did such a lovely job of portraying the hard of hearing reader here. i adore how geto and reader use each other as inspiration for music and for writing, and seeing their arrangement develop into a relationship is so worth the read c:
breathe me in on ao3 ; fwb!suguru in this fic… i gotta light a blunt every time i think of him. i was sold the second he asked reader to come over not for sex but to cuddle and to have someone simply there with him. geto is soooo sensual to his core here like every thing he does and says feels like honey… and he’s SO smooth jfc. so fine. my sweetheart AND my little shit :,) the smut here is toe-curling

what if you’re just someone i want around (i’m falling again) on ao3 ; post-jjk0 fix it fic where reader is assigned to watch over geto 😣💔 < the sound of my heart shattering. you can feel geto’s jadedness and bitterness radiating through the screen due to how vivid and deeply thoughtful each scene is written out. but despite it all, geto is such a sweetheart and lover to his core 😢

every time you let satoru handle the rounds for the group, you wake up feeling melted into the mattress the next morning. after so many years you think you would have learned.
apparently not.
it hurts to open your eyes when you’re met with the harsh glare of the afternoon sunlight through the blinds. your limbs feel glued down and you barely roll over to see your boyfriend on his back, forearm thrown over his eyes.
you barely move your leg from where it’s tangled with his and he grunts. basically saying ‘it’s too early for this’ even though it’s two pm.
“sugu,” you murmur, shoving your head deeper into the soft pillow beneath you.
he’s so pretty, black locks spread all around him like he’s some kinda angel with a halo or a mermaid. your mouth grows dry as you wait for his response.
“hm?”
“hungry.”
“we got crackers?” suguru mutters.
“ran out. we never bought any after last time when everyone crashed here.” you tug your legs from between his and curl closer to him beneath the numerous blankets.
you always did get unusually cold when you were hungover, meanwhile he was the opposite. suguru was shirtless and hummed in protest when he felt the warmth of your body but didn’t make any effort to pull away.
also because he knows that if he did, he’d be signing his soul off to hear your whining for twenty minutes.
“what’re you in the mood for, sweetheart?”
“hashbrowns.” your lips curve at the mere thought of the food and you tighten your hold on his bicep.
“so waffle house.”
“do you want waffle house?”
suguru finally opens his eyes and looks at you. you never get tired of those purple irises that you always catch watching you even at the worst times.
like when satoru and utahime are arguing (when are they not?) or that one time yuji was panicking because nobara taped him to his bed in his sleep.
“morning, pretty.” his lips lazily curl into a smile.
“good morning.” you whisper, your noses nearly touching each other. just the sight of him gets you smiling.
“to answer your question,” he rests a heavy palm on your waist above the covers. “yes, i want waffle house. we should go get some.”
“oh really?” you barely snicker, too tired to even do that.
“you know, just another one of my genius suggestions.” he leans closer, kissing your cheek.
“okay, okay, morning breath,” you warn but you’re distracted by suguru peppering kisses everywhere but your lips.
“okay, okay, hey, stop!!” now you’re laughing, trying to squirm away from him and the alcohol still lingering on him, mixing with that expensive cologne he always wears that smells herbal and crispy.
“no kisses until i feel like a person again.” you place your hand on his lips and he protests in a small smooch against your palm.
the diner was half full, and while you two waited for your food, you and suguru took up the habit of people watching. there was a group of kids who looked like they had just graduated high school sitting at the counter in those stools downing cups of coffee.
“remember when that used to be us?” suguru jerks his chin towards them, taking a slow sip from his mug.
“is that not you still?” you reply with a smile.
“no. got a girlfriend so i have more cool guy points now.” he clarifies.
there’s an elderly couple sitting across from each other. the man tears his grilled cheese sandwich in half and holds out one of the sides. the lady gracefully takes a bite and smiles at him.
for a second you don’t catch the way suguru looks at you with admiration even with your hair tucked into his hoodie, his sweatpants, and shades because you complained that the light hurt your eyes earlier.
“what?” you hum.
“you are so gorgeous.” he says casually. after all, he has been doing this for years now, it comes as an instinct to him.
and even after all this time it still manages to fluster you the way he says it so suddenly and unphased, like he has a daily quota to meet of how many times he compliments you.
when your food comes both of you are eerily silent because you’re trying to put something in your system besides alcohol and edible gummies. another reason you shouldn’t trust satoru to do… practically anything when it comes to a night out. you never know how it’ll end.
suguru taps your foot with his and you look up to see him taking some hashbrowns off your plate. you roll your eyes and cut a piece off his waffle.
“i can’t believe you don’t eat these with syrup.” you mutter, dipping the small slice on your fork into the small plastic syrup container. “freakin’ weirdo.”
“you’re dating this weirdo, so, shame on you,” he leans back in the booth seat, chasing the rest of his food with some water.
“how did that happen again?” you hum, properly meeting his gaze and he takes your hand into his.
“if i remember, it sounded something like ‘oh, suguru, please date me, you’re so handsome and dope and you always help me with english’.” he mocks you and you glare coldly at him.
“not true.” you grumble, sliding down in your seat and stabbing your hashbrowns. “i was too cool to ever say something like that.”
“you’d write it in your notebook though.” the black haired man grins.
you stick your tongue in the inside of your cheek and fight the urge to smile back at him because you know he’s right. you lift your shades over your head and over your hair.
“there she is.” he reaches over the table and pinches your cheek. “do you feel better? more like a living person?”
“yeah.” you nod and take a sip of your water.
“you know, i’ve been thinking,”
“dangerous.” he scoffs. “is this a drunk thought or a normal thought? because both are completely unhinged.”
“we should go on love island.”
suguru blankly stares at you for a second. you can basically see the gears turning in his head.
“isn’t that where you go to find love?” he asks.
“yes.”
“we’re sitting right across from each other.”
“yes?”
“we’re in love.”
“correct.”
“then why would we go on love island?”
the waitress then comes to refill your drinks and smiles at the two of you, especially your stifled laughter. she walks away and suguru leans forward, folding his arms on the table.
“we can pretend to not know each other. we’ll be like chelley and ace!”
“love, i don’t know who those people are. only you watch that stuff.” he chuckles, shaking his head.

it had always been you, your older brother, junpei and your mom, nagi. you were younger than him by a year and a few months.
you and junpei didn’t share the same dad but he never let that change anything. he considered you his full sister and loved you like one.
junpei also knew that you loved him so much that it would break your heart if he ever told you the truth about his school life. about why he wore his bangs over one side of his face. about why he was always more down than you or your mom.
you two went to the movie theaters a lot. although you preferred books over movies it put a smile on junpei’s face. after all, movies are just like books brought to life.
you didn’t admit it out loud, but you and your mom were both equally surprised the first day one of junpei’s friends came over. he seemed like the complete opposite of junpei.
yuji was like a ball of sunshine. he was always doing stuff to make your mom laugh and junpei always complained to you about how yuji might’ve had a crush on your mom.
however on days when yuji stayed over and you’d run into each other in the dark of the hallway or quiet kitchen, you always caught him staring at you a little longer.
one day, yuji had come over for dinner and he wouldn’t admit it, but he was starting to come over in hopes to see you instead of nagi.
but unfortunately for him, you were going out of town to visit your dad and his family for a few days.
