mobile zoned... been stuck at college orientation, back on saturday hopefully
Satoshi was glad that the other caught on quickly to how he didn’t wish to speak on his time as an officer. Though, he wasn’t exactly thrilled what the topic changed to. He tilted his head so a glare shone on his glasses, obstructing the other from reading his emotions. Was there anything else he was proud of? No, not really. A feeling that he both loathed and liked at the same time. Everyone else had something they were proud of even if it was mundane, but the Hikari pride over their art also seemed to be their downfall.
He let out a breath glad for the chance to further think over his next words with the introduction. “Satoshi Hikari, it’s nice to meet you.” He settled on his old family name the name of his adoptive father still never settling right on his tongue. There was another pause still trying to find a response. There was the art. Certainly great feats but was it earned? He was only so good at them because of his blood line, not because of hard work that he felt pride needed.
He was proud of somethings, but none of them translated easily into spoken understandable words. He was proud of breaking the curse, he was proud of working so hard to not end up like the family before him, he was proud that he had saved lives. To explain each one though would probably not settle well for such a casual conversation. Eventually, he settled on something personal but poetic.
“I’ve found it in better interest to avoid pride.”
The other got quiet for a bit, most likely coming up with an answer. That didn’t surprise Aiba-- he seemed like the type to think about what to say. The question, though simple, was hard to answer, too. Aiba himself didn’t think about pride too much. He felt like if people were happy and didn’t hurt others, it didn’t really matter if they had pride or not.
Satoshi Hikari, huh? Aiba realized he forgot to mention his last name, but oh well. It’ll come up later if need be. Either way, Aiba made a mental note to make some folders for Amaranth residents. He doubted that there would be cases popping up in this kind of place, but he used folders as profiles anyway. With how many problems he had with his memory, it was better safe than sorry. Aiba considered making a daily record journal like when he was alive, too.
“Ah? That’s a rather nice answer. It’s valid-- pride can lead to unpleasant things-- but I don’t think a bit of pride is bad.”

@digitective
it was evening, and tetsu had been on his way to visit downtown and see if he could find a couple things he needed; mostly, it was just stuff for his usual workout routine, and since hugh wasn’t around to use as a weight for his pushups, he needed to find something else suitable for him. he didn’t have anything he needed to specifically buy, so long as it balanced on his back it was good enough for him.
nearing a shop, tetsu was about to enter, but was stopped suddenly by one of the televisions flickering. confused and curious, he stared at it before a human shape materalized from it. now, in front of him, was another human being.
he blinked. and stared. and stared more. it wasn’t a shocked stare, no, but simply a blank stare. a very, very long blank stare. he could not process the situation; last time he checked, humans didn’t come out of computers. he wasn’t sure if he felt concerned, confused, or anything at all.
He was just testing his connection jump ability. It seemed like it still worked, even if the digital lines were a bit more chaotic. It looked like everything was connected in Amaranth. A bit concerning, yes, but this world didn’t run on technology nearly as much as his own, so there shouldn’t be any real problems. And if any cropped up, Aiba could probably fix most of it. He did have some hacking abilities, even if they paled in comparison to his friends.
“Ah, an exit!” He flew over to the end of the digital line, expecting to come out to an empty place like where he entered. But Aiba's luck quite frankly sucked, and so he came face to face with another person.
That wouldn’t stop staring at him.
Aiba didn’t know what to do. He never encountered this situation in his own world– he only popped out of TVs in the agency– and having a towering man stare at you was unnerving.
Actually, it was downright terrifying.
“… H-Hello.” His throat felt dry, and his head failed to come up with any excuse for doing something very not human.
Temptation to jump back into the television and get away: high.
And I realized people don’t change because they want to change. They change because they have to change.
Bird, Bojack Horseman. S03E11 (via ramblingsuggestion)
❝ Would you change who you are, if you could? ❞
Change who he was, huh? If the question was change what he was, that was an easy one. As convenient as his body was, it brought more problems than positives.
But to change who he was as a person? Of course he wanted to be a better person, a stronger person. One that wouldn’t let his friends down, or be unable to help them. Then again, the time Aiba hurt his friends the most was when he was acting on his ideals…
He wanted to say he would change himself to a better person, but he really can’t. Giving a tense smile, he shook his head. “I want to be a better person, but to do that, I’d have to give up things that I want to keep. So I guess I wouldn’t change myself.“
Though time is ruthless, it showed us kindness in the end, by slowing down enough, A second chance to make amends.
So we found our way back home, Let our cuts and bruises heal.
Satoshi deadpanned he could tell that the other was curious about the entire situation. Talking on the families curses and life spans were not where he wished to speak on this conversation. He closed his eyes a small sigh escaping his lips, as the other spoke. It sounded difficult? It was and it was never really what he wanted.
The other realized that Takumi thought he was being overly rude with that statement he shook his head putting his hand up. “No, You’re right difficult doesn’t even begin to describe it. At the time it was necessary.” Impressive hardly the word Satoshi would have used to describe it. Nor, would any of his co-workers or bosses. Neither would his “Father”.
“Impressive to someone looking in. Knowing the full situation would make it even less, so.” Satoshi would rather not have his police work described as impressive. Even if he was only good at art because of his family blood, it was more deserving of being called impressive.
Looks like the other didn’t want to speak further about his situation. That’s fair. As nosy as he can get– it’s the detective working in him– Takumi understands the need for privacy. It’s not like he was going around blurting out about how he lost his original body and has a half-cyber one now. He didn’t even tell his friends at first. No reason to push for information when it’s not necessary.
Takumi was a little confused about the other being so dismissive about it, though. But those were the words of the person who went through it himself, so better to believe it than to insist otherwise. “Is there something else you’re more proud of, then?” Wait, was it bad to keep asking questions before introducing himself? “Oh. And before I forget, I’m Takumi. It’s nice to meet you!”
❝ How much of it’s genetics? How much of it is fate? ❞
This question was probably way past his ability to answer properly. It wasn’t much of a secret that Aiba lacked a lot of smarts and introspective ability. That was never his job. He felt bad, honestly– he doubted he would give an answer that would be satisfying.
“Genetics… genetics is that hereditary thing, right? Wait, how does that relate to fate…” Aiba hardly remembered the stuff he learned in class. It’s been a while. “Uh, if I got the question right… I guess both cause the situation to begin in the first place? Like, people inherit traits and stuff from around them, and fate’s just stuff that decides to happen. So both can start an event, but I think it’s what the person does that causes the ending… So both and neither?”
… That final answer sounded completely stupid. Oh god.

Satoshi blinked surprised the other was so quick to catch on. He adjusted his glasses a slight smile on his face he guessed that was the job of a detective after all. He re-adjusted the bag on his shoulder to a more comfortable position. He really wasn’t much one for bragging especially as his time as an officer but he would speak on it either way.
“One of my majors I got when I was 13 was Criminal Investigation with a specific focus on thieves particularly. At 15 I was ranked a Commander in charge of catching Art Thieves.” It was slightly more impressive than just being part of some kind of agency, to be an actual cop at his age. Though it wasn’t like there wasn’t a reason and it wasn’t like the majority of it he actually got in on actual merit. I mean sure he was qualified, overly qualified but still they don’t hire 15 year olds to a police force without someone pulling some strings.
Ah, there was a smile! Takumi wasn’t too sure about why the other smiled, but no matter. The sleuth preferred people being happy.
Wait, did Takumi just hear him right? This guy got a major at thirteen, and then a job at like that at fifteen? … What kind of situation causes that to happen? Sure, Takumi became a sleuth at sixteen but he lost his body for that. Hearing this person’s story, which would impress a normal person, just made him wonder.
“That sounds.. really difficult.” Wait, no, that’s not what he wanted to say. “Oh, I don’t mean to be rude! Doing all that is amazing regardless of age, but putting your age on top of that makes it all the more impressive.” Nice slip up, idiot. Takumi needed to act more normal.
