Honestly I think itās so funny that in the Marvel universe, when someoneās really smart, they have like eight to twelve doctorates and they finished high school at age twelve.
And then over in the DC universe itās like. This is Tim Drake. Heās a genius. He keeps cloning his loved ones. He dropped out of highschool. Over there is Barry Allen. He can reverse engineer a spaceship in less than a minute. He is such a good chemist heās still going to be known as the best chemist in 4,000 years. He has a bachelorās degree.

Very VERY interesting to me how it's probably meant to read that heroic Tim loses his life on one last job, which is extra heartbreaking because he just got accepted into university, his way out of vigilanticism, possibly forever...
but equally the "You don't understand" from Steph suggests a second, darker reading... that Tim knows he's got into university. That his words about "the kind of man I would be" have a double meaning - he's terrified of the future, terrified of growing up, especially growing into a future where he can't be Robin anymore. And because he's already put all the infrastructure in place for him to leave - fortifying the Belfry, all the technology he's been putting in place for the last few issues - he's running out of room to escape from this future. He's rationalised the idea of quitting Robin but he doesn't WANT to. So this death in a blaze of glory - a death that he can pretend is heroic, even if his motivations are utterly selfish - is perfect, so perfect that it's almost like he planned it.
Possibly the evil Batman storyline here is metaphorical, too, representing Tim's terminal anxiety about the future - he is utterly determined not to grow properly into adulthood, because something bad will happen. It is very easy to read that Tim is completely suicidal within this arc. He's already picturing a world without him - which seems to be him preparing for a world without him as Robin, but really he's building infrastructure for a world without him at all.
And then he's doomed to live at the end of it, but at least he doesn't have to go to university anymore. At least he can admit that Robin is the only way he can do anything, even if he hardly recognises himself, even if he knows that there are two Robins and his presence hardly does anything. Rebirth Tim is uneasy, unmoored, sliding between relationships. He's utterly devoted to Batman and the only way to escape that is to escape everything. I don't think that suicidal ideation is gone, even in brand new Tim comics. He's just biding his time for another opportunity.
Tim Drake is usually called the smart Robin which I like don't get me wrong but all of the bats are smart and I do love my Tim but my Tim is just a bit different.
I want Tim drake half out of his mind fucking with Lex Luthor while he chugs 6 monsters. I want baby stalker who was heavy breathing putting together a red string murder board at 3:00 am with very sketchy stalker pictures of the Wayne's.
I want titans tower where Tim knew it was Jason and is about to home alone that shit. While also internally fanboying and giving Jason tips on how to murder the joker.
Tim Drake who doesn't get disturbed by Ra on Tuesday cause he knows Tim has plans with young Justice and Tim will destroy all of his bases again if he is bothered.
Tim who thought Damian was adorable and everytime he makes an attempt on his life gets a new paint set because that is the Drake way and no little brother of his isn't gonna understand premeditated murder.
TIM Drake who owns up to the clones and the boy who Kon knows is a little murdery gremlin and loves that about his boyfriend.
