So last night I was watching Diamond is Unbreakable. Koichi’s Echo had just molted and evolved into Act 3--but here’s the kicker;
he was talking to it like it was it’s own person?
Now this got me to thinking. If stands are a manifestation of one’s soul and mental strength, why are they so different? Why does he have to talk to it instead of simply understanding how it feels like Josuke and Jotaro do (or anybody for that matter)?
Nobody else did/does this except Shigechi, and even Josuke and Okuyasu pointed out how weird this was.
However, when Koichi does it, nobody bats an eye?
Now here’s where I’m going with this:
What if Koichi actually has multiple personality disorder and they’re just used to it? That would explain his mood changes. He would go from sweet innocent short schoolboy to badass stand user in seconds. In fact, he got up to go investigate why Yukako was upset even before she was under the effects of Cinderella, despite entirely ignoring her before.
What if his hair change (particularly during stand battles) isn’t there to just make him look cooler, but it represents one of his other personalities. The badass Koichi that saved Jotaro might not be the same Koichi that walked with him to the shoe store. It’s honestly the only logical explanation for this.
Also Echo Act 3 and Koichi act entirely different, unlike unlike other stand users who are entirely in-tune with theirs. Hell, even Shigechi, despite talking to his stand, was entirely in tune with it and didn’t have to verbally command it or converse with it to use it. He would say “go, Harvest,” and his little yellow buddies would run around, automatically knowing what they’re looking for, no questions asked.
