How does Grimm feel about his wife being trapped forever like he is?

it’s… complicated

when hornet is forcibly grafted into the troupe, she and grimm are not in any relationship. he's got a crush on her like usual, but she's not opened up to him like she later does in pharloom so they're firmly "friendly".

then she dies and his patron takes her in and she wakes up whilst having to deal with Everything. it only slightly nukes their relationship — he's not responsible for what nightmare has done, but it doesn't change that he's the only representative of who turned her into this. his attempts to help her in this transition or provide some comfort or an anchor are pretty thoroughly rebuffed.

as for how grimm feels about all that is obvious. the woman he likes, who was already so closed off and repressing her desires, is now worse off and doesn't want his help despite needing it. he's sad for her and also frustrated to be in this situation. it's not her fault or his fault; he doesn't even really blame nightmare. it's still upsetting.

grimm can deal with this until he hears hornet's breakdown that she's in the same situation he's in. it's been so long since he resented the heart and its eternity so it's really jarring to hear her thoughts on it. he's long come to accept it and he always enjoys his time before the ritual comes and in a way... it's a little exciting to hear that hornet is like him. troupe members come and go, they're mortals after all, and grimmkin are hardly proper company. hornet? already a long lived demigod now yoked to the same power as him? a true companion that not even nightmare was given his habit of sleeping years and places away?

it's comforting. it's a relief. it's nice. it's terrible. hornet may have lived for a long time regardless of the heart, but she's now permanently tied to them and he hates it for her even as he adores the future.

it makes the frustrating and awful start of it all much easier to endure. he has plenty of time to wait this out, to help her adjust and eventually accept it, and obviously he now has an eternity to court her and help her fall into his arms.

never got around to fleshing out the grimm troupe au i had… maybe one day

color alts to make her more troupey but i didn’t end up liking them too much

it's not really an offshoot of this au which was really the only grimm troupe au i had, it's moreso the idea that hallownest falls apart somehow and hornet begs grimm to take her with him in a moment of despair but y'know. things happen.

not sure that's how the au will still shake out, recently spoke to someone who has like a bad end au that's interesting so... idk. just imagine the toxic evil unethical yuri guys.
