He could blast the man into oblivion if he so pleased, but the merchant had struck out so quickly he couldnāt stop the strike from connecting.
It only took moments for the strike to turn into trading blows and wrestling about on the ground. Devvan wasnāt sure why the man was so angry, he hadnāt stolen anything. The man was busy and heād dropped his money on the stand and taken what he needed. Nothing too expensive, just some components for his spells.
Ā āCEASE YOUR ACTIONS, BOTH OF YOU!ā
The great boom was unexpected to say the least, Devvan jerking suddenly from the merchant and pulling himself free as the woman neared them. He recognized her as a follower of Mielikki, the Forest Queen.
Itād been a long while since heād seen a Forestarm in the city.
The merchant shouted and motioned to him lying on the ground, claiming he was a thief and had walked off with the manās goods.
Devvan scoffed, āI payed for them fair. This manās the thief, he demands too much for his wares-ā
From somewhere on the fringe of the crowd, Rick glanced up from the purse heād just cut, slipping it into his traveling cloak.
The earlier commotion had been cut short by a stern (and armed) elven druid who, despite her size, looked like she could definitely do some damage. Though, to be fair, most elves could.
Odd, though - most of the ones that frequented the area were rangers or thieves, with the occasional mage passing through on some important venture or another.
The merchant continued his tirade and a twinge of guilt shot through Rick. That must have been the stall heād⦠borrowedĀ some alchemical stuff from. How unfortunate for the mage.
For a moment, he found himself fingering the leather pouches at his belt. The worn embossing of leaves adorned their fastenings - an oddly comforting texture, to be honest. But caught himself, and silently cursed his nervous tic.
Relax, damnit⦠Itās not the smelly stuff and it doesnāt give off any weird glow - thereās no way anyone can tell you have it⦠No need for the guilt!Ā That guyās not the culprit; heās not gonna get tried for one lousy merchantās bigotry.
Unconvinced by his own arguments, Rick drifted closer to the action. Curiosity may have killed the cat, and all, but he couldnāt just leave this mage to be pinned for the crime.Ā
Not that heād be admitting to it himself, of course! Just providing a useful distraction if necessary.
As the two men were settling their little argument, Showing wares and purses. Mel took a deep breath and examined the people still around them. Although most of the crowd had dissipated by her shout, some were still lingering around, perchance waiting for a rematch? or for the men to settle their score so that they could continue business. Ā None of this really shook her, she was more worried about all the sick or injured she knew would be gathered at the temple by now. Ā What if there was an urgent case?Ā
In the corner of her eye though, something got her attention, and turning her head just slightly she noted a lithe man, some distance away looking over the scene. Normally such onlookers wouldn't have mattered to her, people seemed bent on entertaining themselves with others misfortune. But this man, seemed distressed for some reason.Ā
Quickly checking that the mage was still peaceful with the merchant, and vice versa, she turned to the stranger and walked up to him. looking Ā up at him she queried "You look rather pale and shaky, pray tell is something wrong? I am a healer if need be I promise I won't take long." Pausing just a moment then, she looked at this tall man. Not all the pouches that he wore, were of his own brand. "Or perhaps your ill looks are not of illness true. If something with you rests on unclear conscience, I would recommend you speak your mind. And we can all leave this mess behind."
With those words, she stepped back, hoping that if her hunch were correct, this man would do the right thing.
Ā Rick blinked a few times, looking from Mel to the mienfoo and back again. Heād never heard a Mienfoo speak before, even aided by something, but Melantha was just chatting away as though this was normalā¦. Though, maybe it was the least of the things he should be worried about.
The mienfoo took Melanthaās hand between his little paws and gave a firm, but gentle shake. āNice to meet you, Miss Melantha. My friends call me Tapps.ā
He smiled, tail swaying lightly, and gave a quick nod of his head. āYes, actually - thatās what I came here aboutā¦. Thought it would be a good idea to meet some of the people Iād be playing with. Itās been a while since I played something like D&D.ā
"Oh you've played it before?" Mel beamed. It was a bit odd to actually talk to a pokƩmon like this, she usually just deciphered their squeaks and chirps and other sounds. But nonetheless she was happy to have another player.
"Last I checked the list, it was only me and Rick and apparently you who were interested. I think we could make up a group with three, but Mark said that it would be ridiculously hard. You wouldn't happen to have any friends to come join us? What kind of a character would you like to be?"
Rattling on with question after question, Mel got up, and suddenly fell quiet gazing at the horizon. A large storm front was approaching and although it was still ways away, she could feel the electricity in the air,Ā
"I think, this conversation is best to be continued indoors. Last time I saw a storm like that I got transported here." She said absentmindedly, fiddling the edge of her newfound sweater. A very sharp eared person or pokĆ© might of heard her whispering "I hope she'll find a dry place to stayā¦" as she turned to head back into the village.
Ask my character about...
A situation from their past
Their feelings/opinions on something
What they would do in a hypothetical situation
Why they act a certain way
A person they know or once knew
Anything youāre curious about or want more details on
I wanna play but writing has been difficult lately, so canāt promise anything. :/
((Almost done with my old asks so⦠:'D))
slaughter
((Mel does eat meat, fish, eggs and other animal products to maintain a healthy diet. She is very peculiar on what meat she eats though. She will make sure if she can that the animal she is eating died quickly and painlessly.Ā
So killing of animals for food, if done ethically, is okay.Ā
Hunting because you can, trophy hunting, brutal killing of animals, etc. is not okay, she does not understand why is it needed or why anyone would enjoy it. She will discuss any hunters on these matters if she finds them. So that she could
a) Teach them that it is not okay or
b) Understand why they do it.))
Waiting and Betrayal
((Mel is good at waiting, that is to say, she is rather patient. She learned at a young age that good things come to those who play nice and those who wait. This was mostly due to her mothers long working hours and amount of income which both made sure that good things came rarely. But those good things were always worth the wait.
Betrayal is something that Mel is sadly familiar with. Though it served in teaching her that not all people are to be trusted, she doesn't take it well.Ā
She is the kind of person who will bond with nearly anyone she sees as a good person and she puts full trust in people she bonds with. Breaking that trust would be like stabbing her through the chest, it doesn't kill her but it leaves her sad and bedridden for a good while. Thankfully she has her pokƩmon and her mom to pour some trust back into her to get her out into the world.))
Morality
((Mel herself has very strong morals of right and wrong. Believing that you should do no harm to no one, that you must help those in need and that you always give a little more than you take.
She doesn't like people who mistreat their pokĆ©mon or other people, who hoard money, abuse power or in anyway show lack of compassion. She would choose forests over cities because as cruel as nature is, there is always a factor of fairness.Ā
But she rarely says any of this aloud. Because she understands that people are different, and people with questionable moral codes either must have a reason for their actions, or a different view of the world. She will help lesser people with money and food if it helps them get on their feet and all that. And she will try to see the world in other peoples points of view before making any final judgements.
Maybe it makes her easy to scam, but it's her way of putting out good vibes in the world so what harm can that do in the end?))
Illusion
((Old asks ahoy ^^,))((So I like to think that as rational and levelheaded as Mel tends to be. She is still very enamoured by illusions/magic and all kinds of mind tricks. if a travelling psychic or other trickster would travel through town she would be in the front row seeing the show. She tried cardistry when she was younger but since then has stuck to sewing clothes.
All that being said, she would by default hate anyone who used illusions as a way to do harm to others, such as scamming money or making a fool out of someone. ))
If my character were an angel, what would they be guardian over?
((I'll just leave this here, after this day, I have summer vacation and can finally draw and answer all the old (really old! OTL) asks in my box))
Ā "Oh," Rick frowned. Lilliput was missing? How longād she been gone? ⦠Maybe he shouldāve tried to find Mel sooner; maybe he could have been some help.
He put a hand on Melās shoulder, a reassuring smile on his face and a determined look in his eye. āLike you said, sheās probably alright. Just hiding⦠Weāll keep an eye out for her, too, if that helps.ā Hopefully the roselia came back soon.
"If youād like, I could have my teammates keep an eye out for her as well," a slightly muted voice offered.
Rick turned to answer and saw it belonged to an oddly adorned mienfoo. He would have said something, but the pokemon continued, tilting its head at Mel but not opening its mouth.
"Weāre decent trackers⦠so we could probably find her given enough time."
"Thank you, both of you. I could really use all the help I can get. It's not that I, lets just say that she doesn't have to come home. I would want her home and all but clearly she is upset. So if you do happen to find her anywhere or anything, just let her know I worry and come tell me how she's doing? I'm sure she'll come home after she's calmed down." Sliding along the stone into a crouch so she could be level with the mienfoo,
"But what might your name be? I'm not certain that I've seen you before?" Holding her hand out to greet them "I'm Melantha, Millie or Mel for short, but most use Mel." A sudden though popped into her head and though she was still worried and sad, her eyes gave away a hint of joy. "You wouldn't be interested in a game? We were just talking about it with Rick here, pokƩmon would be free to join too!"
Ā Bright and early, the mienfoo from before padded into the center, passing another young lady who was on her way out. His first course of action was to check the notice-board again and post one of his own (āInvestigation ongoing into the nature of the spacial rends. We seek to predict their course and are compiling a detailed report. Direct concerns to Vera and/or her team. Thank you.ā)
The post from last night caught his eye and he smiled. It seemed heād just missed the original poster on his way in - perhaps now was a good time to ask about particularsā¦
Without delay, he bounded out the door tracing the direction Melantha had gone.
***
The sun was well in the sky by the time Rick woke up and, oddly disoriented, he frowned. What was today? Today was special somehowā¦
Oh!
He jumped up, kicking off his sleeping bag and (unwilling to deal with his skates today) threw on his new pair of old shoes. And he was out the door without a single explanation, running like his ass was on fire. Grason zipped out after him, concerned, but Rick was on a mission - no time to slow down.
***
At the meadow, the mienfoo paused - there Melantha was, but she seemed to be preoccupied. He sat back on his haunches to wait.
***
By the time Rickās course brought him to the meadow, his thighs ached a way they hadnāt in weeks. Itād been so long since heād actually ran anywhereā¦.
"Hey, Mel! Saw your postā how ya been? Havenāt seen ya in a while," he laughed.
Investigating one of the fuller bushes, Mel shot up as she heard someone calling her name. Glancing to the direction of the shout she recognised a familiar figure, visibly exhausted but just as chipper as ever. "Hi Rick! I've been doing okay, been helping around town, fetching pokémon from platforms and such." Leaving the bushes alone she walked to the meadows edge, as not to speck too loudly and disturb any wild 'mons. "The game sounds fun doesn't it? Although, Mark kind of shooed me out after I returned the rulebook⦠But I'm sure if we get enough people or “mons to play he'll have to at least teach us the basics, right?
Her happy expression quickly faded though and she returned her gaze back to the meadow. "Hey Rick. Have you... by any chance. Have you seen Lilliput around town? After Fluffball evolved, oh I haven't had the chance to tell you, Fluffball evolved! He's almost the size of Leilani now. Anyways, I guess, Lilli didn't take it too wellā¦" She leaned against a rock, just scanning the environment, and although she couldn't see her dear little rose she did catch a glimpse of something amongst the flowers. A pokĆ©mon? Something lithe and matching the colours of the field? "I've been trying to find her, but she is good at staying out of sight when she doesn't want to be seen. I'm sure she's alright⦠still I can't seem to ease this feeling of dread."
After a period of silence she forced a smile back on her lips, one that would probably not fool anyone and continued. "Apparently in that game, Dungeons and dragonites it was called. You can be quite a few different races and occupations. What would you like to be? I think, I'll try to be a good person no matter what I choose."
Ł©(ą¹ā¢ā”ā¢ą¹)Ū¶ Hugs for you!

It was around late evening when Rick passed the notice-board inside the P.C. He saw a new post, read through it, and smiled - a game didnāt sound...
Mel couldn't get up early enough the following morning. She advised Fluffball and Leilani to keep looking for Lilliput, maybe they'd have better luck in finding her than she had had the previous few days.Ā
It had been a while since she was actually exited about something and the thought of doing something together with others sounded so good in her ears. The trip to the P.C. seemed to fly by,
Inspecting her notice she found some penned additions. "Oh, yes, listing your name would be an excellent idea. Wonder why I didn't think of thatā¦" she mumbled to herself and just to make sure, wrote her own name down a second time, So it would be definitely obvious that this game would happen. As she was leaving she noted a small line of text at the side of the notice. Pondering for a moment, she picked up a pen from the counter and added: As long as we can understand what you want to do while playing, all pokĆ©mon are welcome to join in!
happy that anyone had even paid attention, she returned the pen and waltzed off, maybe she'd try the meadow. Filled with flowers, you would think that flower pokƩmon would enjoy their time there. If not, she could at least meditate a bit and enjoy it's beauty,

It...
She listened to their explanations calmly, inspecting both as they we're speaking. Strangely both of them seemed to talk the truth, as far as she could tell. "Did you actually see him steal anything? At this time of day there are a lot of customers so maybe he paid and you didn't necessarily notice?" She questioned, helping the mage up. "If you could be so kind as to check that for me. And if you, good mage could show what you bought from him and let's see if we could resolve this without further violence."
In the back of her head she thought that she was going to run late from her "appointments" at the temple. But perchance the people could wait with their cuts and bruises. They've seemed to manage without her before she arrived so it couldn't be that bad.Ā
She wanted to make sure that things calmed down without the need for guardsmen and that this travelling elven mage and the merchant were both okay.Ā
