DIY instrument by Sleazy
Stamp Axe Vol.6 No.1: Instrumains / Handstrument was a bilingual experimental art magazine / cassette project published in 1990 by Pier Lefebvre. The edition included:
30 artists who built their own musical instruments
participants from 8 countries via the Mail Art network
2 chrome audio cassettes, 90 minutes each
a 72-page publication (texts & graphics)
2 postcards featuring paintings by Henriette Valium
a case/box with a centerfold handprint by Gisèle Trudel
a limited edition of 250 copies (sold-out)
The project focused on handmade and recycled acoustic/electronic instruments (“instrumains / handstruments”), emphasizing self-generated sound and DIY sonic experimentation.
The archive record from e-artexte describes recordings made with instruments built from recycled materials and objects, accompanied by French and English texts discussing experimental sound practices.
It appeared within the broader Stamp Axe series published in Montreal during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
