“Ahem, um, Quirin?”

At the sound of his name being called, Quirin looked up from his field work to see one of the last persons he was expecting to see that day.

“Oh! Captain!” Quirin greeted with surprise, shaking the other man’s hand firmly in his own. “You’re back! Oh, I’m sure his majesty is relieved. How are you? Were you able to…?”

Quirin’s voice trailed off before he could finish the question, the Captain’s expression telling him everything he needed to know.

“Erm, no,” the Captain replied with a small shake of his head. “I…I didn’t…”

“Oh…I’m sorry,” Quirin said solemnly.

“Listen, Quirin,” the Captain began again after an awkward silence. “That’s…actually part of why I’m here. Do you…have a minute to talk?”

“Yes, of course,” said Quirin, motioning for the two of them to make their way to his home. For judging by the Captain’s expression - one of dismay that Quirin had never seen on him before - he knew the Captain needed to talk to him in private about some deep matters, even if the man was too proud to say so himself.

“Please, sit down,” Quirin bid the Captain as they came into the castle’s parlor.

“Thank you,” said the Captain as he took off his helmet and set it beside him on the sofa. Quirin then pulled up his own chair, and then proceeded to begin the conversation.

An Unexpected Christmas Gift

This fic is my gift for @dj-chan for the TTS discord Varianville Secret Santa! There’s some angst in there but it’s mostly a lot of Christmas fluff :) and as you can probably tell from the title, Varian gets a very unexpected Christmas gift. ;) Enjoy!

A vial of blue liquid bubbled ominously as the flame below it continued to burn. The liquid began to change colour – first to a dark navy, then royal purple, then lavender, then rosy pink, before finally settling on a bright ruby red. A pair of eyes loomed out of the darkness, peering at the vial as the bubbles formed quicker and quicker. Nervous chitters filled the room and a nose sniffed at the metallic scent filling the air.

To the right of the maze of glass architecture surrounding the ominous vial, the alchemist lay dozing on the only section of bench not cluttered with vials and tubes of all shapes and sizes. The chittering grew louder and a raccoon materialised out of the darkness, leaping onto the bench and tripping on papers scrawled with equations and sketches. At last, the creature made it to where the alchemist lay and leaped onto his chest, nudging at his chin and screeching in alarm.

“AAAAHHH!!! WHERE AM I? WHAT’S HAPPENING?” Varian sat up, blinking hard and looking around wildly. He looked at his hands, confused by the lack of resistance he’d felt on his wrists. No chains. He still wasn’t quite used to that.

I’m a little late but here the last entry to the tangledtober 2019! The 4th week topic was costumes so I made a screeshot-edit and put cute little Varian in a raccoon costume X3

As a bonus have my cute little Varian edit without a costume too ;D (I had to edit a cute version bc this little gremlin in canon shocked me XDDD)
