Bone Weevils
May it be noted that I have attempted to rename this parasite as Mitherford’s Mites to reflect the grave seriousness of an infestation, yet their colloquial name and reputation supersedes all attempts to dignify them. The term Bone Weevils, or, osnidificans curliculio, remains as stubborn to eradicate as their counterparts.
Bone Weevils are a osteovorous eusocial insect that originally inhabited the Underdark, feasting on the collagen and marrow of carcasses and leaving fine mineral powder in their wake. Their role in providing fertility to the soil is unparalleled. They may be miniscule, yet do not underestimate their voraciousness nor their resourcefulness.
In my correspondence with several physicians that work below our surface world, Bone Weevils will leave one human skull desiccated in twelve hours. In the wake of widespread ceremonial cremation, these parasites have moved from carrion to living hosts.
If one ingests a creature infested with Bones Weevils or sleeps where they are nesting, infestation will follow. Bone-Weevils thankfully only nest in dark, damp subterranean habitats. Mausoleums, burial grounds ruins and dripping caves are their chosen haunts. Wet, cold and enclosed spaces should be thoroughly smoked to kill off their nests. Queen Bone-Weevils are often buried in the densest parts of skeletons and can reinfest a cave within a week if not thoroughly cleansed. Corpses should be buried or burned.
One could theoretically live with the brittle bones they tunnel through, it is the agonising internal itching that leads to a unique madness in victims. They are driven to gruesome acts to amputate or cut out the parasites. Early treatment is essential or else the Weevils will destroy both the spirit of the afflicted, as well as their battered immune systems.
Typical sufferers: Humans, Elves, Drow, Halflings, Gnomes and Dwarves. (The internal temperature of Tieflings and Dragonborn may stave these creatures off.) Symptoms: Internal Itching, described at first as a fizzing developing later into excruciating burning itching. This progresses to delirium and erraticism if the malady progresses. [Roll a constitution saving throw of 12 on first infestation. On failure, roll on the Bone Weevils table once per long rest. Each time you roll, you lose the previous conditions and gain a new condition. If treatment cannot be found after five long rests, progress to the Short-Term Madness table and lose a permanent -2 to Constitution.]
Treatment: There are two known ways of driving the weevils out of the body; bone-Knit ointment, or subjecting yourself to an Insecticide as a last resort. [Foraging in forests, grasslands, mountains, swamps, or the underdark terrain for Bone-Knit herb, using a Herbalist’s Kit to create an ointment from Bone-Knit. Applying Bone Knit ointment at the end of a long rest until the itching stops. Or, ingesting a poison that gives 25 Poison damage or more that will kill off the Bone Weevils.]
Osnidificans curliculio can be prevented with a thorough smoke out of their dwellings. The bones they inhabit are easily recognised from the intricate hexagonal patterns left on the dry skeleton, as well as the fine ashy powder they leave behind. Lighting strong incense is enough to choke them.
200 Word RPGs 2025
Each November, some people try to write a novel. Others would prefer to do as little writing as possible. For those who wish to challenge their ability to not write, we offer this alternative: producing a complete, playable roleplaying game in two hundred words or fewer.
This is the submission thread for the 2025 event, running from November 1st, 2025 through November 30th, 2025. Submission guidelines can be found in this blog's pinned post, here.
The Art of Dumpster Wizardry
You are MAGICIANS! You use MAGIC ITEMS to solve problems. Unfortunately, you got these items from the BARGAIN BIN at the MAGIC STORE. The ITEMS are represented with ADJECTIVES and NOUNS.
One player presents a PROBLEM. Clockwise from them, each player will decide whether or not to solve the PROBLEM with an ITEM. If they do, they create the item by combining an adjective and noun, then argue why it will work. If a majority of players votes it succeeds, that player wins a point. Another player may intercede with their own magic item to attempt to solve the problem better; they get the point if this succeeds. Regardless of success or failure, any introduced magic items will remain for the rest of play. After a round is complete, the next player clockwise presents the next scenario.
To get your ADJECTIVES and NOUNS, roll a D20 12 times, six times for each table.
The adjectives (as 'of [x]'):
Energy
Burning
Shocking
Shrinking
Growth
Seeing
Calling
Feeding
Construction
Protection
Extension
Holding
Healing
Wounding
Stopping
Speed
Weight
Flight
Holiness
Egg
The nouns:
Wand
Sword
Ring
Bow
Orb
Tablet
Axe
Knife
Bowl
Instrument
Hammer
Shield
Rope
Bag
Boots
Charm
Cross
Gem
Lantern
Egg
Hey remember those d100 tables I hastily made a week or so ago thanks to a suggestion from @probablybadrpgideas ?
Well I made an improved 2.0 version and made up 50 items for you to have a play with! I even included illustrations and an NPC!
This is my first time uploading to dmsguild, so hope I've gotten it correct. Please enjoy!

I can't believe I made this. I was the one that sent in the original ask.
More than happy to credit you in the pdf and storepage with any links you want!

didn't want to point it out in front of others, and didn't know ur stance on dms so ask it is! (this way you don't need to answer it)
anyway the 2 tables are really fun!! directly went to test them out and that's how i noticed
uhhh you doubled 25 & 26 on BOTH tables with different items
really curious for how that happened 🤔
Oh no worries, that's kind of you but I noticed as soon as I posted it lmao
I managed it by being dyscalculic and copy/pasting the same table twice and then just remaking the words! I have fixed it on the google docs, but I have made a 2.0 version with some of the more similar or awkward words replaced.
I am planning to make it a homebrew supplement available on DM's guild along with 50 items I've put together <3
currently creating some items from the 2 x d100 tables I made previously, and having a lot of fun!
I may have an addiction to forcing my players to take wisdom checks.
Make a d100 table of nouns and a d100 table of verbs. Every magic item in your campaign is a randomly-generated [noun] of [verb]ing.
this one slaps
Here you go! (google docs link.)
did my best to make fun, interesting and strange objects. I avoided weapons.
When I was in my teens, I used to make an entire magic system with 900 unique spells, ordered in magic schools and categories, and it boggles my mind that I basically reinvented DnD mechanics, even down to metamagic.
I wanted to make a wiki about it but I don't have time for it.
The point was to try to encompass every "superpower" I could think of into a magic system.
I even got lore related to it all, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna simply reuse it all for OC worldbuilding. Ngl the fun part was naming all the spells, symbols and coming up with the logic of it all. Edit : Due to popular demand, I'm making the wiki now yay. There's even more sigils done now >:]
I recently bought an art book on Caspar David Friedrich, whose emotional work stuck with me since I first saw it in a museum years ago. Over the course of a few weeks, I read about his life and at the same time did studies/interpretations of many pieces. It was a really enjoyable and fulfilling project; here's a good lot of them together :)
I was happy to see many people enjoyed Friedrich's work+my interpretations while posting them individually. It took way too long, but I FINALLY set up a print shop for some of these + some other pieces for those who expressed interest. Thank you so much!
I LOVE Caspar David Friedrich's pieces AND your work! Amazing to see them intertwined!
