Kiddo got his ski hooked by a barrier and went down hard. Kinda cool how they just screw it back together.

Excited about the upcoming Star Wars movie? Me too! I expect there might be a theme to the ihearthisto creations this week!
This is a mature Graafian/tertiary follicle. There is an egg/oocyte sitting inside it (at about 10 o’clock). That oocyte will be released from the follicle imminently during a process called ovulation. From here it will enter the uterine tube and commence its descent toward the uterus where millions of spermatozoa may be attempting to do the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs (if you know what I mean 😉)

A note…
You may or may not have noticed the engagement of my posts has dropped significantly on Tumblr over the last couple of years. I feel like regular followers have disappeared. Either most of my current 18000 followers have left the site or I am victim of some kind of algorithm - I don’t know. If you have an ideas let me know! At any rate the death knell for this tumblr page is starting to toll. So please, if you enjoy my content, consider following my work on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook - @ihearthisto for all! Thanks!!!
Things I cannot change:
bigotry, especially in the midwest
implicit bias in the medical profession
those who look to serve themselves on the backs of those who look to serve others
a history infinitum screaming that I should not be where I am today
Things they cannot change:
my sheer willpower to overcome all of the above
my tolerance for pain. for sweat. for sacrifice. my toil is my legacy. when my bones are gone, what I have crafted will remain.
my values. to give endlessly to those who love for the sake of love. to give water to those who have been downtrodden until they are seeds in the earth, waiting to sprout again.
my funding. i will kiss the hand that feeds until i become the hand that feeds.
my culture. they care not for what they don’t understand. with each passing day, I care to better understand who I am.
Once, I fought to prove to myself that I can triumph. Now, I fight to prove to them that I can triumph. I won, once.
And I am winning again.
So far, ID is exactly as hopelessly nonsensical as I remember it being in med school. Like, I get the basic stuff. I get the science. I know the mechanics behind why, for instance, penicillin can potentiate gentamycine. But I still have these moments of being the only muggle in a Potions class with Dadaist overtones.
“The Newt’s eye isn’t doing the trick. Let’s keep it, but add some death’s cap and paint the room green.”
“We need something with a broader profile. Let’s change the turmeric for a tiny piece of rose quartz.”
“This particular kind of spirit can always be exorcised with honeycomb. You’d think they would have developed a resistance to it by now, but they haven’t.”
“No, Mandragora can only be administered as an enema.”

Aaaaaand…. you’re in geriatrics. I love helping people manage multiple comorbidities. It’s so satisfying when you get someone’s quality of life as high as you can make it, especially given all of the above.
But it’s certainly quite an undertaking, and dealing with chronic problems should never be underestimated.
Can we also add in all the extra “problems” internal med adds on their list?!
Like “anemia”, which is actually on 2 points lower than the normal…….
Or do extra labs “just for the un of learning” ……
(ohhhhhh all the reasons I could never be in internal or geriatrics)
I could tell you about the coronary arteries And the chambers our blood flows through. I could draw you a hundred EKG’s, But they don’t explain how my heart beats for you. I could tell you about the gastric glands And what happens when they go awry. I could explain ulcers and gastritis But not how you give me these butterflies. I could tell you about the cerebral lobes And strokes of many different kinds. I could outline the circle of Willis But not how you dominate my mind. I could read all of Netter’s, Robbins, and Gray’s And study the body for all of my days. Nothing will explain this lover’s craze, But when these bones grow old, this love will still stay.
😍😍😭😭
If a man lit some candles and seductively drew me the circle of Willis I’d marry him on the spot 👏👏👏
Some days I’d find this romantic. But after an on-call if someone mentioned more medicine I might run away screaming…
