Big fan of the fact that, in Frankenstein 2025, Victor did not run from his monster because he was "too grotesque" like in the original novel. The film established that Victor is very comfortable with the grotesque. He's not disconcerted by it, which makes sense. He's building a man out of dead men's body parts. Why would he suddenly be shocked at its appearance?
I love that what GDT did instead. Victor was not afraid of the grotesqueness of life, but the responsibility of it.
You made life, and it's no more than a baby. You must now raise it and nurture it and teach it and love it, and THAT was what was too much for Victor.
Just a really awesome change that worked REALLY well.
Edit: it's been over 10 years since I read the original novel so I may be misremembering, cut me some slack. I'm not interested in book vs movie discourse, I just like how the movie further emphasized this theme.
Final Edit: Literacy check: Did I ever say that what Mary Shelley did or wrote was bad or worse? No. I love the original book. I love Mary Shelley. I just like how the movie handled this moment. Jesus christ, that's all.
Hear me out
Castiel, the new florest in town, has an odd reoccurring costumer
The local mechanic, Dean, comes in every other day, buying all sorts of things. At first he came in just to make conversation, welcoming Castiel to town like everyone else.
He visits twice before saying "I should probably buy something so I don't waste your time" and walks out having purchased a small bouquet
His next visit, he leaves with a potted cactus
Then a small flower arrangements
Then seeds for some basale (staying for longer, complaining about his brother and his 'rabbit food')
Every visit, Dean always comes in with a new request, a new question, and always leaves buying, at the vet least, a single flower on his way
Now, Meg tells him that Dean TOTALLY has the hots for Cas and is just looking for any excuse to visit. And Castiel is inclined to agree, even dressing up nicer in the days Dean comes to visit, waiting for when the charming mechanic 'makes a move'
Only, Dean doesn't
Because Dean, unbeknownst to everyone, has been hoping for a florest to come to town cause it reminded him of when he was young, when there were more flowers and greenery around. He wanted to share it with his loved ones, and it's not like his savings are going to anything extravagant, why not use it on the (devistatingly) handsome florest who's been patient with Dean's constant visits
So imagine Dean's surprise when Castiel makes a move on HIM and completely blindsides his plans on bringing Lisa a bouquet for their first date
"I asked Grok.""I asked Chat gpt." ok, well, i asked Sam winchester, and he said,"So get this...
in my head the first destiel kiss happens when cas is fully powered up. they have been talking low, vulnerable truths finally being said, and dean has been walking closer and closer, cas stepping backwards, until his back hits the wall. dean crowds him, closer, grabs on to the sleeves of his coat — he won’t allow himself to really touch cas, not yet. cas doesn’t pull away.
cas squeezes his eyes shut and lets his head fall back to the wall with a thud. he gulps as dean leans forward enough to let his breath ghost over cas’ neck. almost a kiss. wanting. wanting. wanting. 12 years of it.
“please,” dean would whisper, begging — he’d be surprised to find he feels no shame in it here. “cas, please.”
“I — I don’t know if I can be gentle,” cas would burst out in a whisper, clutching his fists, eyes still closed , shameful, like he’s in a confession booth seeking penance for a grave sin.
dean would exhale a shaky breath into his neck, not quite a laugh, not quite a sigh, and then he would be maybe the bravest he’s ever been.
“castiel,” he would whisper — reverent, like a prayer, like worship. cas’ eyes would snap open to meet his. “you have no idea how much I don’t want you to be gentle.”
and cas’ eyes would start to glow.
