Hi, I'm devilspedicure, usually referred to as Devil or Devi by those who know me solely as a gremlin in their phone screen. You can use whichever one of those you want, if you want to say hi, and I'd be delighted if you do. And if you want to refer to me in third person, I'd love it if you use they/them. I don't like being personally perceived unless we get to know each other, you see.

My username comes from "The Hellcat Spangled Shalala" by Arctic Monkeys, not because I have a foot fetish. It's a waste, I know.

I suffer in joy from the Stancest brainworms, and currently (October 2023) have 20 fics to my name on AO3, all of which are about them.

I also am currently (September 2025) absolutely unwell over Axel/Roxas (AkuRoku) for the third or fourth time in my life. As of the above month and year I am working on a longfic with this pair, because apparently I lose my shit over them repeatedly.

I don't draw, or I'd spam this hellsite with visual yaoi as well - instead, I peruse and am blessed by existing sinful art.

I'm An Adult (30+) and as such, I expect you to do a turn and head in the opposite direction of me if you're not. Likewise if you're bothered by fictional sibling incest or age gaps. I may desire filthy, gross things to happen on paper, but not between real people. i just wanna say, as a feeding tube haver, that it's so much more possible to get used to invasive medical devices than you might fear.

i grew up horrified by even being reminded organs exist. i was just so severely grossed out by human anatomy. i got a lot better about it through years of chronic illness, since you just have to get used to it. but that's the baseline i started from originally, in case you are also squeamish and wonder if it's possible for that to change.

so when i needed a feeding tube, i was pretty distressed by the idea. having a tube sticking through a new hole in my abdomen was a seriously horrifying concept, and i couldn't imagine coping with having a stoma (the hole) and caring for it etc. i did it because i needed it to survive but thought i might never get used to it.

and yeah, it freaked me out at first. but eventually i did just get used to it. it just feels normal now. i even feel affection towards it, because it is keeping me alive.

this is critically, life or death important, because some people find the idea of medical devices like this so distressing that they believe they would rather die than get one. some people follow through with that. the stigma and ableism around medical devices can very much be fatal.

and it's baked into our institutions. when you are filling out an advanced healthcare directive, which is a document that details your wishes as to what type of care you do or don't want if you are incapacitated and unable to communicate your preferences, it asks if you would want a feeding tube, artificial hydration etc. the implication of this question is that dying instead is a perfectly legitimate and understandable option.

and it's certainly an option people should be allowed, because i believe in body autonomy including life and death decisions. but in our current society, it is a decision people make not freely, but under the duress of ableism in a society that thinks disabled people and people with medical devices are better off dead. it haunts me to think of all the people who could have had perfectly decent lives for however much longer but chose death instead out of fear of these interventions.

And the thing is, by the time you need an intervention like this, something that requires you to significantly adjust your habits like a feeding tube or a ventilator or dialysis or a stoma or any number of other things - when most people get to the point of needing such a thing, finally getting it is a huge relief. It's a relief to get to a point where you know your life is in danger, and find out that you actually get to live a while longer if only you just make this adjustment. Feeding tubes are amazing, is all I'm saying, insulin pumps and gastro tubes and tracheotomies and single use catheters are all incredible and keep so many people alive and glad of it every day. I say, with my primary experience being finally getting a cpap machine when I was at the point of desperately needing it, so I can't speak for everyone obviously but yeah, these things can not only extend life, but make life more worth living

Two years later, I love my feeding tube more than ever. And I completely forget anyone finds them weird or gross until I am reminded. I also love my other medical devices, invasive and otherwise.

Some of what I said above about advanced directives lacked nuance, because it is complex to consider whether you would want life support measures in a situation where you are unlikely to ever regain consciousness, for example.

But the point still stands that the overwhelming societal view of medical devices is that you're better off dead than having them, and that is just not true in and of itself.

I consider myself having faded into obscurity when it comes to my fanfictions in the Stancest community, and that's alright. I've got 75 unanswered comments sitting in my inbox, and the guilt torments me daily, so my fanfics not being remembered and rotated in recommendations circles seems fair.

Today I got a kudos on Collusion. I had completely forgotten that I even wrote that story.
