TĘá´ á´Ęɪɴɢ ÉŞs: the silence isnât a bad thing. The longer she takes to think, the longer she stays in the line, and that makes it so, so much easier to track the signal down. One would think someone trained to catch people would consider these things, but no! No, the deputy never fails to astonish him with her ignorance. Maybe she wants to be caught. Maybe some part buried deep within her longs for peace, understands what needs to be done, and it is just a stupid pride that keeps her from giving in.
Even if her words, once they finally come, make her look more like a stubborn child. Really? Thatâs insulting his intelligence, but heâll indulge her for now â it wonât be long until they get to her, anyway, and such talks are much more effective in person. Thereâs just so many more way to convince them of their wrong ways. To make her see that he is only trying to help her.
      "Please, Deputy.â
His voice is soft, even though itâs hard to strain anger from it. Impatience. The radio filters it, but probably not for long if she keeps on being so utterly wrong.
"Thereâs no need to be difficult. Iâm just trying to make you see the error of your ways â Iâm only trying to help. You donât need to make this harder on both of us.â
She should have hung up long ago. Someone wiser than her would have done it ages ago, or better yet not even started the conversation. But there was something about him...perhaps it was the danger of the whole situation, an unfamiliar feeling for a woman whose life could be called âboringâ compared to what he was offering her. Even in the strictest sense of doing her job, this was more excitement than sheâd ever had.Â
( It was probably wrong to be this hung up on a murderous cult )Â
No matter how quiet andkind heâs trying to appear, she knows it has to be a ruse. A man whoâs threatened to peel her skin from her and already tried to drwon her once wasnât sddenly going to be nice and civil, especially when they were merely talking over a radio.Â
âI didnât know you had it in you to say the word âpleaseâ! Iâm impressed, Seed. And Iâm not being dificult, just trying to understand your thought process.â
