Something that's been bothering me lately: the notion people have that "politics" is a nasty, taboo conversational topic that they'd be better off ignoring. It's a consequence of privilege, particularly white privilege, that doesn't get talked about much. It's easy for us (white folk) to feel removed from the rhetoric and debate on news media and Capitol Hill because it's not our civil liberties and livelihoods that are on the chopping block, and treating such a broad and far-reaching thing as POLITICS like it's "dirty laundry" is a total betrayal of our basic civic duties.
