okay so I might have people raise their pitchforks at me while throwing tomatoes but I have a confession.

I hate jalph.

NOW BEFORE EVERYONE LOSES IT. Let me explain the reason I’m not a fan is because of how Jack acts in general. Jack is kinda sociopathic and generally doesn’t care about anyone but himself. The MINUTE Ralph got elected chief Jack was already jealous and feeding into his power hungry intentions. AND YES I KNOW JACK IS A COMPLEX CHARACTER but he literally tried to put Ralph’s head on a stick like what they did with the pig head. Jack literally stripped away all the innocence that Ralph had and his view on the world. Plus Ralph was probably TERRIFIED like imagine watching your WHOLE team get killed and kidnapped, forcing you to retreat. Ralph even tried to be friends with Jack at the beginning despite his clear aggression and obviously Jack was too caught up in the pig hunt to really care about that.

remember this is an opinion idc what you ship (as long as you keep it appropriate for them) I’m genuinely just not a fan so spare me.

I get so frustrated when people baby jack but villainize Ralph for being a bad leader. Ralph is 12 YEARS OLD. He was literally holding everything up together the best he could but no one would listen to him. Which made him frustrated “But he was a bad friend” yes I’ll admit he was mean to piggy and Simon but god forbid a character progress through their story and become a better person, also friends were not a priority for him, getting rescued was. Like Ralph had issues with leadership but at least he wanted rules and order. Jack just wanted to be leader to feed his ego and his lust for power. Ralph wasn’t the best leader but he definitely wasn’t the worst. He was 12 year old boy trying to keep the civilization and order alive.

okay so like I am making the lotf essay but I’m debating if I should post it here or make another account where I post ALL my writing. (Let me know if any of you would like that!!)

anyways what basically made me want to start this essay was how some people act like having a girl on the island would “get rid of the point” or how “it wouldn’t make sense anymore” which is so untrue (and kinda misogynistic) William Golding has even made a statement on why he didn’t add any girls and he was very respectful about it, evening stating he thinks women are far more superior than men. Now of course I’m not saying there HAS to be a girl on the island but I think there’s a lot of potential and I’m hoping my essay while shine light on that! So…

I’M CALLING AN ASSEMBLY!! My essay will likely be done soon and I wanna make something clear. I will not be getting ANY of my sources from the lord of the flies 2026 tv series or the 1990 lord of the flies film. My sources will typically come from the book and the 1963 film (and whatever William Golding has said about lotf) as I feel these are the most accurate representations we have.
