It had been but a second. A tiny time frame that had seemed to stretch on for eons as his eyes caught sight of the most beautiful thing in the universe. It seemed so insignificant when he put it to the years he’d lived, but this was probably the most important moment he’d ever experience.
Thace was by no means weak, or victim to his whims, however he had also never been confronted with the love of his life spread out before him, glistening and wafting a gentle scent over him. Their expanse seemed to reach on forever as he cast him gaze over them, his mouth beginning to water at the sight.
This moment was cut short, however as they were gone all of a sudden. They had been whisked away in the crowd as he was dragged further from them by the pushy Galra surrounding him.
He could almost feel his heart ripping itself from his chest if only to stay with what he was sure was his true love for a moment longer, and from that moment on he vowed that he would find them again. He would learn their name and whisper it into the darkness as he held them close. He would never forget their beautiful hue; he would burn it into his mind forever more.
He was introduced to them one day far in the future, after a friend had seen them at one of those weird shops that sold all sorts of stuff from all over the universe and, knowing their description off by heart, brought them back to Thace.
“So, what are they called?” Thace asked his friend as he took the love of his life in his hand.
“They’re called pickles,” his friend explained, watching as Thace opened the glass jar they were stored in; the pickles sloshed about in their green brine.
“They’re… Beautiful,” was all Thace could say as he gently placed one on his lips, kissing it softly before he took a bite. “The most beautiful thing in the universe.”
