I keep seeing meta posts about x reader fics and they're all so annoying. I don't even like reader fic and would block it all cheerfully given half a chance but these whiny motherfuckers piss me off so bad. The vibes are halfway between "here are my thoughts on yaoi" and "kids these days and their smartphones" and "ewwww you eat RAW FISH?!?!". With an added sprinkle of "here's how to tell if your OC is a mary sue".

The one that has set me over the edge has a sad lil comment like "this used to be most of fandom 😫" and I'm just like shut the fuck upppppppp. "I don't get the appeal" well you see Janet, other people have their own thoughts and feelings and likes, and sometimes they want to play different games than you! You don't need to stand on the sidelines loudly commenting on how yucky you find it, you can go play your own games with your own friends. Assuming you can find anyone to tolerate your insufferable ass.

I don't care about your thoughts on yaoi and I don't care about your thoughts on reader fic! What a classic example of self indulgent wank. I'm going to start reading and reblogging reader fic to piss these assholes off.

The readerfic people are doing precisely 1 thing wrong, which is they're not tagging it consistently. Other than that, AO3 was founded to be a home for the stuff everyone else thought was squick; they have as much right to be there as anything else does.

TBH, even that isn't really their fault. It's on us for not realizing in time and adding a relevant category alongside m/m, etc.

A bunch of them are tagging with perfectly reasonable relationship tags that reflect the particular part of fandom they're in (/reader, /you, etc.). What they aren't doing is adding some tag that lets me remove all of their work from my sight with a single click. That would have been possible with a dedicated category, but alas.

Or if we'd implemented a proper relationship between character and ship tags that allowed you to search for all Tony Stark / anybody tags at once. All of the /reader type ship tags would have been linked to a Reader character tag.

Some of them tag really, really badly, but the majority tag about as well as other ship types. We just didn't build the infrastructure to support them.
