Just heard a metal cover of Enya’s Caribbean Blue and it wasn’t something I’d ever even thought of but oh my GOD it’s so good!
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
MERYL STREEP as Molly Gilmore FALLING IN LOVE (1984, dir. Ulu Grosbard)
Admittedly, today’s Meryl film is one I’ve never actually seen in its entirety, The Prom!
I started watching it when it first came out but I was going through a veeeeery difficult time in my life so never finished it until now.
Firstly, as much as I love him, I can’t take James Corden seriously in any other role because that is Smithy from Gavin & Stacey singing with Meryl Streep what the actual fuck? Mind boggling 😅
“I am as gay as a bucket of wigs” stop 😭
The same goes for Keegan Michael Key, I’ve only really watched him as the substitute teacher so to see him as Dee Dee’s love interest is wild.
Tell me Dee Dee Allen is not just an extra flamboyant Madeline Ashton with a little sprinkle of Miranda Priestly? She’s such a diva and so self absorbed it’s hilarious, ripping her jacket off and getting ready to brawl with a literal kid over sacrificing her house had me howling 🤣
Meryl Streep RAPPING? Was not on my bingo card…ever, iconic, is there ANYTHING this woman can’t do?
It was over the top, fun and surprisingly heartwarming and I quite enjoyed it tbh.
Fabulous 💃🪩
Oh my god, this mashup of Ariana Grande’s hate that I made you love me & Britney Spears’ hit me baby one more time is like crack I’m not even joking.
Fantastic 👌

Last nights viewing was Music of the Heart 🎻❤️
As someone who played the violin in an orchestra as a child, I can’t even tell you how overjoyed it made me when I watched this film for the first time 🥹
Such a lovely film, and the fact that it’s based on a true story is so heartwarming. What a fantastic woman Roberta is, I love how stern yet incredibly caring she is and how she pushes the children to be the best they can be without coddling them.
The scene when she’s told off for being too harsh so changes her approach, but then the children don’t like it and want her to be mean again cracks me up 🤣
I can’t get over Meryl actually learning to play at practically professional level in mere months, it blows my mind. That shit is HARD, and I played for 4 years
Music is so important it’s no lie, I certainly couldn’t live without it. Learning an instrument is such a wonderful thing, I wish I’d have kept it up.
Ahhh so excited! I’ve just booked to take my daughters to see Mamma Mia at an outdoor cinema experience in August 🥹
We get to dress up (as Donna and dynamos obvs) & take a picnic, I can’t wait!
Never been to an outdoor cinema before so this will be fab 🤩
Best get myself some dungarees for the occasion 💃
a spicy edit for pride month🌈
these stills are from the same scene i swear
also, i love that miranda’s shoulder reveal was merely a taste of her deliciously defined musculature
Next up Falling in Love ❤️
Firstly AGAIN with the food, this film makes me want a chilli hotdog real bad 😩 (cue Jennifer Coolidge)
What can I say (and I say this about most Meryl films) I LOVE this film!
Not a whole lot happens visually, yet so much happens in these lives of Molly and Frank, it’s such a lovely, slow paced and comforting film (if we gloss over the infidelity 😅) definitely up there as one of my favourites.
Despite them being unfaithful to their spouses, it’s interesting to me that the way its portrayed in this film is so innocent. Just two people who meet, genuinely enjoy each other’s presence and gradually develop strong feelings for one another. It makes me all fuzzy watching them fall in love, and you can really see how conflicted Molly is about it.
I love how realistic the awkwardness between two people first meeting and getting to know each other is in this, we’ve all been there.
Meryl is quite possibly the most beautiful woman on earth in my opinion anyway, but to me she’s especially stunning in this film 😍
All the various shots showing the different angles of her face, her nose, side profile, cheekbones ugh I can’t get over it, not to mention her hair! Which is a whole character of its own and makes me want to chop even more layers into my own! Just gorgeous.
We really need to bring back the 80s style because I adore her wardrobe in this, the long skirts, baggy shirts, belts and blazers look fantastic on her (we’re not gonna talk about that horrible pink thing with the shoulder pads)
It’s crazy to think she’s roughly about the same age as me in this, I need to get my shit together 🤣
What takes my breath away every time though are her expressions, she really gets the look of love down to a t and she honestly makes me believe she’s falling in love with her co stars every time. The way she runs her eyes over every part of their face and looks at them in adoration my god, my heart 🥹
This film makes me so happy!
On today’s episode of my Meryl re-watching spree
Postcards from the Edge 👌
What a fantastic film!
And in my opinion one of her most quotable, there are some absolute classics in there I have so many favourites🤣 I’ve not watched it for yeaaars but I can still recite the lines like it was yesterday.
“I’m checkin’ out” is a TUNE why is it not on my music streaming service?
Suzanne’s sarcasm & humour are everything and probably a big contributing factor in my own dark sense of humour to be honest 😅 I fucking love her.
Her hair and wardrobe in this are fabulous, I personally want to recreate the denim jacket and skirt combo she looks gorgeous 😍
On today’s episode of which Meryl Streep film should I re-watch today?
Heartburn.
I love this film so much, even though I feel so sad for her character in her shitty marriage when all she wanted was a happy little family, I’m so glad she finally stops accepting her husbands crap in the end and chooses herself and her children.
- Rachel Samstat is an angel who deserves so much better
- Mark Foreman is a twat
- Meryl with baby Mamie is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen
- The music is fantastic, Carly Simon’s “Coming around again” is burned into my brain
- The cast is friggin iconic
- Why do her films make me hungry?! I swear this always makes me want a massive bowl of Spaghetti Carbonara and giant slices of pizza.
It’s such a nostalgic piece and Meryl’s expressions/comic timing are everything 🙌

Last nights film was The River Wild and I just can’t get over how much of a badass she was in that! The ultimate mama bear she’s incredible, and the sheer strength she has in that film, my god. My daughter asked me, if I was stuck on a raft on that river with Meryl would I trust her to save us, absolutely 100% I would baby 💪

This is a Meryl Streep appreciation blog at this point and I’m not sorry, though to be fair that’s why my original tumblr back in 2009 was made 😂 I’ve returned to my roots (not that I ever left tbh)
I feel like Julie Powell, but rather than make my way through Julia’s recipes I’m making my way through Meryl’s filmography all over again 🥰
