One of my favorite headcanons of mine is that Queenie got Caine into bees and started beekeeping to keep herself sane in the circus. They'd bee keep together and it was one of the few things that managed to distract them both enough for things to seem normal. They both like bees is what I am saying. Look at them. Zuko calling a dude hot is based -

on his long established character traits.

I'm not dismissing any queer readings of Zuko - I definitely think of him as Bi, even in the context of my Zutara shipping.

But, Zuko is frequently shown to be direct in his reactions and behaviour, to somewhat struggle with metaphors or indirect speech, and to take people seriously.

More than that though, Zuko is oriented towards being helpful. He answers questions when asked, and doesn't really keep secrets.

So having (blind woman) Toph ask if the Iceman is hot is going to trigger his inclination to help. While the rest of the Gaang are busy being either insecure in their sexuality (Aang and Sokka) or focusing on the situation (Katara), Zuko just... helps Toph. He takes her request seriously, and he responds.

And I think that is wholesome and sweet.

(I also think that Katara's response looks slightly betrayed - but, hey, Zutara shipper, so there ya have it.)
