…about to get serious?!
I think this may be a contender for "Biggest Outright Lie in All of Girl Genius."
(everyone get off Tarvek's case, okay, this one far and away outclasses him)
KLAUS.
You are never willing to talk, you ridiculous liar.
Flat-out, barefaced lie. Shameless. Completely incorrect. Untrue. False, with documentation. How wrong are you? Very. I have no doubt that there's a Wiki page - possibly several! - for "Klaus refuses to explain". This may be the most wrongity-wrong thing anyone in this comic has ever said.
...congratulations, I guess?

KICK THE CAN!
Let’s play the biggest game of kick the can on the internet.
To kick the can, reblog it. I wanna see how long this can go on for.
the oldest reblogs for this post that i can find are from january 2nd of 2013. this can has been getting kicked around tumblr for almost 13½ years now
And yet somehow this is my first time kicking it!
On Saturday I said to my partner, as I have said for months, "A ten thousand dollar a year raise would solve so many of my problems."
As of this morning I was reluctantly looking for jobs because I love my job and don't want to leave it, but see: $10k raise problem solver.
As of noon today this was no longer an issue, because my boss called me with the news that I was getting a $10K merit raise.
I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is roughly $200 extra per paycheck. Enough to pay off debt faster, rebuild my savings, and spend a weekend a month in Milwaukee getting obscenely laid. The sex I'm going to have on $200 extra per paycheck. You can't even.
May all of you get the $10K raise your soul has yearned for. And whatever level of sex you can be satisfied with for $200.
hey bestie i think ur post might be charmed 'cause you aren't gonna fuckin believe what happened today
watching sinners with an inflation calculator open in a second tab so i can understand just what kinda money the smokestack twins are throwing around. nerdiest possible movie experience i think.
Okay coming out of lurking for this because among the many great features of Sinners is you don't actually have to go outside of the movie to understand what kind of money they're throwing around. The movie tells you itself.
In the scene where Smoke teaches the young girl how to negotiate, they're standing in front of of a cafe. The shot of them negotiating is framed so that you see a sign in the cafe window advertising a Ham and Eggs breakfast - in other words, a full meal - for 25 cents. The editing makes sure to put that sign back into frame whenever the question of the value of money arises in their discussion.
Smoke offers her 10 cents a minute and asks if that works for her. She says yes. He says no, it does not and tells her to negotiate higher. The 25 cent sign is framed in the shot when he tells her no, reminding us *why* it's not a good value.
She comes back with 50 cents - which the sign has informed us is the cost of *two* meals. Smoke tells her that's too much and counters with 20, which is just under a full meal but we now know that's a fairly respectable price because we just got the high/low contrast of 10 being too little and 50 being too much.
The negotiation ends with her getting 20 cents per minute and we now know 1) 25 cents is the cost of a filling meal in this environment 2) This girl only needs to do five minutes of work to be able to feed herself for a over day (20 cents per minute times five is a dollar, which is four meals) 3) Smoke has the kind of money to throw around that over a day's worth of food for someone can be to him - as it is to our modern eyes - mere pocket change and 4) Smoke's the kind of person who can both be a violent gangster but also care about teaching this girl how to look out for herself so that one day maybe she too can throw over a day's worth of food around like pocket change.
Combined with 5) you can now use that 25 cents = a meal to do the math every other time money gets mentioned in the movie to understand just how much cash the Smoke Stack boys are dealing with.
And that's just ONE detail which, thanks to props (Hannah Beachler), editing (Michael P Shawver), and cinematography (Autumn Durald Arkapaw), told you almost everything you needed to know about how finances work in this environment. This movie is unfair to all other films in how fucking good it is.
the enemy drank water today. did you?
i drank water three days ago. im several steps ahead of the enemy. this is what it takes to win
it bothers me that you often don't really hear about people having a "favorite album" the way they might have a favorite movie or favorite video game
fuck it. reblog this and tell me in the tags what your favorite album is
I have been enjoying seeing people experience food this World Cup

@elodieunderglass come collect your hell horse!!! He’s getting everywhere!
What do you mean this isn’t canon? (12/?)
Ummm she's literally sensitive :/
I love AO3 and all its wonderful, generous, gorgeous, hilarious writers.
Fancy and I lay in the grass near the neighbor's yard at 2:00 a.m. The grass is wet, the insects are loud. I sing a sad song to her but change the words at the last minute.
I try to show her the double rainbow halo around the moon. She tries to show me all the night smells. I bring you bad images of both. We all miss part of the experience, yet have a lovely experience nevertheless.
Go explore the front yard with a friend! It can be an adventure if you let it! Night sniffs!
Can we not be one beast?
I'm somewhat hard of hearing. She responds to the sound of a bird's feet as it hops up a branch. I thrive on color, work with it every day, and there's a lot of it she cannot see. Her eyes detect motion faster than the refresh rate of my TV. I can taste sweetness better than she can, but she has a whole wilderness of umami open to her that I can't even imagine. She reads the past with her nose, myriad detailed stories unfold for her in a form of chronological and spatial storytelling I will never experience. I can just ask where Daddy has been. I feel and grasp with my sensitive hands, my skin senses temperature everywhere, but through whiskers and fur, she feels the motion of the air across her entire body.
I can see the birds on the power lines at the end of the street clearly.
When she looks up at night, though they are blurry and soft, she can see forty thousand brilliant stars.
Twenty thousand, only half are visible.
I'm guessing wildly at this, but this is the Large Magellanic Cloud, the best photo I could find showing visibility up to magnitude 8.
Then my approximation of a human view at magnitude 6 from a dark sky site.
Then the same for a cat with blurry vision who can't see all the colors.
Worse than napkin math, but resources for this were strangely hard to find, and I'm not an expert, so don't take any of this as accurate.
But any way you cut it, her sky is so bright and everything is soft and blurred together, like trying to concentrate on something in a dream.
The stars don't move or smell like anything. She doesn't look up while we are outside. I'd be kind of spooked if she did. Instead of stargazing, she spends half an hour cataloging various pisses from the strays and listening to what I think is the sound of the geckos that live in the stonework and creepers.
I cannot perceive these things, but they matter to her, and from the way she lies on the needlework I'm trying to finish, I know she cares about my interests also. The geckos, the pissing, the sewing, the stars, it is all equally important. It all merges in a soft, blurry, bright mass.
We sit in the grass and I get bitten by mosquitoes while she peeps and trills at me in the dark that isn't dark at all.
We rly need to bring back the term “acquaintance” like into regular and frequent use. So many high drama community squabbles and feelings of betrayal could be avoided if people just admitted there’s a step between “stranger” and a full on friend whose friendship you have a commitment to continuing and fostering. Like sometimes you’re just aquatinted with someone and you might decide you don’t like them after getting to know them a bit better…that’s very normal
