Like if someone really wants a diagnosis, odds are that they are already struggling a lot and what they really want is an explanation for their struggle which they hope can result in treatment and support. They're not making up a struggle for fun, they are trying to find a way to cope with one.
i know its been said b4 but growing up suicidal and then reaching an age you never planned to live to is extremely stressful and terrifying, and we deserve more credit for not killing ourselves and THEN having to make up for the time we spent not caring if we lived or died and not doing work to improve our lives.
i feel behind in life because i spent the last 7 ish years not giving a shit about my future because i assumed id be dead before id have to deal with that, and now i have to start making decisions that many people started considering years ago.
i just feel like. suicidal people dont get credit for firstly, how stressful life is while suicidal, how difficult it is just to do simple tasks, and secondly, how hard it is to recover from years spent not caring once a person is no longer actively suicidal or no longer having suicidal ideations.
When I was a little kid, I really liked the Artemis Fowl books because Artemis was the only preteen/teen action-adventure protagonist that wasn't the chosen one or somehow the figurehead of a political conflict that adults would realistically never want a child to lead. No one gave him the quest. He simply chose to be the main character, through action. This blew my little eight year old mind and still impresses me as an adult.
His villain journey subverts the moment in the hero's journey where the hero refuses the call to adventure. He was proactively digging deeper into the magical and mysterious and forbidden. Everyone in their right mind wanted him not to go on his quest. He did it anyway. He discovered supernatural beings were real and immediately robbed them, and used that as a springboard to rob them a second time. Incredible.
Harry Potter was like "nooo I don't want to be the chosen one" and Artemis Fowl was like "I want to be the one who choses". Powerful. Potent. Electrifying to my brain that had accepted the powerless lack of agency that comes with childhood. The mere suggestion that I could be the main character without being chosen by and cosigned by adults was inspirational, villainy be damned. I think he was the first Nietzschean YA protagonist. To this day he might be all alone in that category.
'Cause people tend to not get the memo: People acting strangely in public is not a danger to you. Pacing, talking to themselves or something you can't see, laughing to themselves, stimming, twitching, ticcing, making "weird" noises--it doesn't fucking matter. They're not your personal freak show, they're not broken, they're not a murderer and they're definitely not going to be fucking helped by you calling the authorities or anyone else on em. These actions alone are not indicative of danger to you, as a random person on the street. Shut the fuck up and move on, leave disabled people alone.
"you were always such a good kid! we never had to worry about you :)" thanks! you actually should've, though. like about this specifically
i dont "struggle" with isolation, i'm actually soooooo super fucking good at it

Isn’t it kind of fun how when your life sucks you just can’t talk about it with anyone
I’m serious though. When your life reaches a degree of suckage, you find yourself having to look elsewhere for anything at all to talk about. The things going on in your life are trauma dumping. Your past is probably also trauma dumping. So you have to get really weird about specific things or hope that others want to talk to you, because very quickly people are going to develop an aversion to you and the way your life sucks. Unless you just don’t talk about it
It’s socially isolating, which is dangerous—when you’re in this sort of situation, community is the difference between life and death, housing and homelessness.
I think the collective prioritization of comfort first is hurting people in a real and material sense
