It's 2024.. are people still using this? Let's get back to it! Welcome good person, to the land of crying over fictional characters! My name is Louise and everyone is welcome to this blog. So, grab a book, make a cup of your favourite hot beverage, get comfy and enjoy! š Currently reading: Voyage of the Damned by Frances White
I was so surprised by this one! It was a Spin the Wheel pick from my āNeed to read soonā wheel. I actually enjoyed this so much; it was fun, quirky, a little emotional. There was some plot twists that I wasnāt expecting, but it was also very predictable from the start of who was going to be the murderer. But actually getting there was fun and unexpected.
I ended up giving this one a 4 stars, almost a 5 star rating.
My only gripe with it was thatās itās listed as an Adult novel when itās more of a New Adult, mostly YA vibes. The main character was very immature and content wise wasnāt very adult either in my personal opinion.
This version of the book is byĀ @illumicrateĀ from their January box Murder Mystery.
š Currently Reading: These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong
I needed something to listen to the other day while I was out and about galavanting the museum, I spun the wheel and it told me to continue on with the sequel of These Violent Delights.. only problem, I couldnāt remember book 1. SO, Iām now currently reading that and will be moving straight on to Our Violent Ends once Iām done.
UPDATE: 02/04/24
I have finished These Violent Delights.. and I never paid any attention to the audiobook.. OOPS š
I got enough of the story to continue on to the next book, but please don't ask me for too much information because I simply cannot give it to you!
I kept my original rating of 4ā as I don't feel like it was fair of me to give it a new rating with me not really paying attention.
Wow, first off, I can't believe I abandoned you all. And second, I am so excited to try and get back into blogging!
I just wanted a space again to rant and rave about my thoughts on books, but not necessarily in my book journal, but then I remembered here, and how this tumblr account used to be my online book journal. Anyway, back to todays scheduled program xo
The City of Stardust by Georgia Summers..
It gets a 2āļø from me.
This book was so weird for me. I got this edition from Fairy Loot back in their January Adult box, and I got my partner to choose a book for me to read, he landed on this. I was so excited to read it because its giving Velaris vibes, it's giving fantastical feelings..
It gave me.. nothing.
Firstly, the writing style: I loved! It was honestly the only reason I carried on reading, it was so beautifully written and compelling. It's just a shame that the plot wasn't all put together and the characters were only half explored, to me anyway.
Storywise: The plot was interesting. A secret world, that only people called Scholars can access with keys made of this special metal; God-metal/reveurite. Violet Every, our MC, is hidden away from this world, by her 2 uncles, for her safety, because the family is cursed.
Violet's mother was next to be taken away, but she leaves her daughter, Violet, in the hands of her brothers to go off to look for a cure to this curse.
It's honestly a hot mess. So many plotholes, like.. why couldn't one of the brothers be taken? Why must it now be Violet who is to be taken? The author talks alot about Violet's talent in manipulating reveurite but we never see it until the very end for 1 quick second.
Aleksander, my goodness. I wanted to whack that lad so many times. The author wrote him very well, had me compelled with him, and then was thrust back to reality of him and made me want to square go him.
Penelope being the "Bad guy".. there was so much more Georgia could of done with this character.
You're probably reading this like, "Louise, babe, this isn't making a lick of sense.. what are you talking about?" and you know what? You're right.. because to me, this book made no sense.
If you've read this, please let me know how you felt about this!
I had the upmost pleasure of being allowed to read an advanced digital copy of The Age of Witches by Louisa Morgan.
Thank you again to NetGalley and Orbit for allowing me to.
I loved the atmosphere of this novel. The Age of Witches is set in 1890, and Morganās does a great job of transporting us to New York and then again to Seabeck, and its costal views.
I enjoyed the witch concept. Much like how ātraditionalā witches are portrayed: with herbs and manikins. This is something I havenāt experienced much when it comes to witch themed books, so I loved how natural it was.
The plot was really interesting, and though you could see how it was going to play out from a distance, it took a twist and I wasnāt expecting that. It made the story so much better.
The characters relationships is where I was drawn too. I enjoyed each character for their own reasons and having them interact with each other made me very happy.
Even though I was given the ebook to read and review, I was enjoying it so much that I bought the audiobook so I could continue to listen while I worked on house hold chores (⦠animal crossing really) and the actresses voice was amazing!
If you couldnāt tell from my review, it was a 5 ā read and it was an absolute pleasure being introduced to this authors book.
698 | Still on that vacation flow. I went to the beach last week, Iām back in Boston for two days for doctorās appointments and then Iām going home to New York for another week. I start my next internship after Labor Day. In the meantime, Iām reviewing submissions for Law Review. A process that Iād truly describe asĀ āa nightmare.ā
