Do you remember the episode of Spongebob where he's training gary for the snail race and does a coach persona + calls gary a girl and has an aside where he's like "I called you a lady to demean you 🤓" and right after he says that it cuts to sandy and she somehow telepathically feels that Spongebob just did something misogynistic and us like I feel like I need to kick Spongebobs ass for some reason. wow we're movingggg but i'm still an unemployed tgirl which is really scary

hi hiiii it's j again .. thank you to everyone that's helped keep me afloat over these last few months,, it's been! rough! on a lot of fronts! but we're pushing through.

my partner got us a house and we'll be moving over this next month! thankfully our first big house payment won't be until the beginning of august, but moving is an expensive endeavor, i still have utility bills to pay, and i need to eat :')

Prev: the second tag is actually true! So long as you don't swallow them, you can chew on any mushrooms. Taste is an important identification tool.

This is very not true, your mouth is a giant, leaky siv that neurtoxins will 100 get through. Just look at your mouth. So many blood vessels at the surface! This is why people chew nicotine and cheek estrogen, and take weed sublingually!

It is true though, mushroom toxins need to be ingested to have any ill effects. Mycologists will often nibble on a piece of mushroom then spit it out to taste it for identification purposes.

Yes google is free, and it says don't nibble and spit unless you're a seasoned expert and that the test is not helpful for a lot of identifications.

At best the technique is contentious with no consensus.

It’s a technique taught in field guides, mycology groups, and first year mycology classes because you don’t need a degree in mycology to not swallow something and it’s safe to do so (which you now seem to be admitting you were wrong about while also shifting goal posts).

The worst ill effect you’ll get from the nibble test is a bad taste in your mouth for a bit, some of those russula/lacteria are unpleasant tasting. Additionally, you can’t always rule out taste being unhelpful without tasting said mushroom. Other identification tools should be used when possible but when in the field you can’t always run chemical tests or wait around for a spore print, tasting is however something that can be done right there with near instant results.

And, I’m not recommending this bc it’s really not needed for this species, people have nibble/spat tested the deadly Amanita phalloides because without ingesting it the toxins aren’t going to get you, supposedly it tastes good.
