In This White House - Discord server for fans of The West Wing
Started my new AO3 series, C.J.ās Alternate Endings, today! Basically, this series is made up of stories I have where C.J. still leaves the White House after the Bartlet administration but does *not* go to California with Danny and spends some time to herself slowing down and figuring out what to do next.
In this first fic, C.J. goes to a writerās retreat in April, about three months after the show ended. She has one story idea in mind, but memories of her old life (and one of her best friends) take her in a very different directionā¦

A West Wing fic set in an AU where Carol and Donna are nurses (and girlfriends!) and Carol is taking care of Donna as she recovers from a migraine. I love the sickfic trope, so I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it!

Brief continuation on my thoughts after the end of The West Wing because I briefly mentioned Margaret and Carol in my last post and wanted to follow up on that!
Margaret: I donāt see her staying under the Santos admin for long or going into a more 9-5 office job. I donāt think the latter is really her thing. I feel like she would start her own business; Iāve always imagined her owning a bakery. If the show were set in modern times, sheād sell templates on Etsy. I can also see her pursuing a career in book publishing, specifically working as an agent and later producing YouTube videos like ā10 query letter mistakes to avoid.ā
Carol: I also donāt think she stays at the White House much longer. She was initially hurt when C.J. didnāt bring her to the COS office in Season 6, but they end up reconciling. I can see her staying in communications work but becoming a coordinator or doing something for a nonprofit with less intense hours. She of course is still friends with Donna. In my alternate version of Tomorrow, she and C.J. walk out of the building together and into their new chapters.
Speaking of C.J. Iāll be soon working on a series of fics that are basically alternate endings I have for her. I have one partially drafted as we speak.
As I promised, I finished watching The West Wing tonight! And I have a lot of thoughts on the characters and how everyone ended. Since this will be so long, everything is below the jump. Just an FYI that some opinions may be unpopular š¤£ but I want to be clear I donāt actually dislike or hate any character so donāt confuse that with me having mixed feelings about their endings. These are in no particular order.
C.J.: I loved C.J. as press secretary and the rapport she had with everyone in the office, but didnāt like when she was moved to chief of staff. I still liked her character, but she lost a lot of spark, and I donāt think putting her in that position was a good move.
For her ending, I really appreciated her desire to leave politics behind and move to something that will give her a more normal life. But I do wish she hadnāt ended up with Danny. He is too forceful for me and I feel like he wanted to be with her more than she did with him. I donāt think she really owed him anything in her future job choices. My preference for her love life would have been for her to meet someone new or even spend time with her own company for a while.
Josh: I am not sure if heāll last more than a year or two as Santosā COS unless he can pull himself together and stop being so impulsive and chaotic. I can see him eventually teaching! I have envisioned him as a teacher in some AUs and think high school or college students would love him.
Toby: The leak storyline broke my heart. I would have loved him and CJ to go friends to lovers if not for that. He definitely did not read the room with Andy in Season 4. š¤£ But it was nice to see that he was pardoned. I do kind of believe the fan theory that he was covering for someone else in the leak.
Donna: I loved Donna for most of the series, but she soured on me in late Season 5 and early Season 6 when she blamed Josh for feeling stagnant in her career. I never thought it was fair that she blamed him (and that heās largely blamed by some parts of the fandom) that she didnāt have the career she wanted when she also wasnāt doing anything to pursue other opportunities. She got better when she stopped being so bitter toward him. Iām not entirely sure she is qualified for a chief of staff role, but I will say the scenes with her getting her office and being offered the job were a nice emotional hit.
Jed and Abbey: I love their marriage forever and ever. Even when they fight they realize how much they love each other and come back to each other. Abbeyās line āI would vote for youā in Season 3 says everything. I wish we had seen them get back to the farm and see the girls again. Jed has earned his retirement.
Sam: Since he has been gone since Season 4 and was only onscreen for about 10 minutes of the last season I donāt have an opinion here. But Will Bailey was an inadequate replacement, IMO.
Leo: The show was not the same without him, and the void of his death was felt. In an alternate universe where he lives, he retires from politics and is married to Jordon, and he has a new ācareerā as a househusband. And he gets to travel with her and cook dinner and have a normal life after working so hard for the last eight years.
I do hope good things for Carol and Margaret, my favorite assistants. And Debbie! I guess she resurfaces 10+ years later sharing a beach house with a woman named Grace after their husbands fall in love with each other. (I am watching Grace and Frankie mostly because I wanted to see Lily and Martin onscreen together again.)
Canāt wait to watch all over again!

What a great character. Feels like I lost a member of my own family. I felt sad for everyone but especially Josh and Margaret.
Canāt believe I only have four episodes left until the end.
POV: Still not emotionally recovered from Annabeth finding Leo in the hotel room on election night.

Finally got to post my fic for TWW Tropes fest. Chose the prompt āfound familyā and wrote this Leo and Margaret oneshot where Leo (and Mallory!) come visit Margaret when sheās recovering after emergency surgery.

Feeling like crap this morning due to no sleep. Up and canceled my first mammogram that I had booked for next month not because Iām anti-medicine but because I really donāt want to go through with a callback if they ask. Honestly the whole thing just doesnāt seem worth the stress for me.
Canāt wait to go out later and grab a sleep aid at the drugstore to knock myself out tonight.

Donna and Carol have been dating for about a month now and are having a harder time keeping their feelings and actions private, so they decide to share their relationship with the person who cares most about both of them.

Me when I know Iāve been spoiled for ages for C.J. and Danny getting together and Iām still yelling at the TV screen for her to not do it and not accept the date and to have higher standards.
A few days late posting this but excited that I wrote for @twwpride for the first time!
A Donna/Carol oneshot for the prompt āQueerplatonicā where Donna is trying to figure out how to label her relationship with Carol. Carol has an idea that will help them both show off their commitment to each other as both friends and partners.
