International students contribute $30 BILLION to Australia's economy every year. Universities make most of their money off foreign students because they have to pay way more than domestic fees and don't get HECS.
The above graph shows just how vital foreign students are. Universities rely on them for about 3/4ths of their income. Labor introduced cuts to foreign student intake and reduced immigration in 2024 and universities were worried about the damage it'd do to the sector - which is the 4th largest industry in the country. That's just a little reduction in numbers but One Nation wants that to drop to 0.
So if One Nation's anti-immigration policies ever happen the economy will tank, we'll lose BILLIONS as a nation, we'll lose jobs and important skills AND universities will be FORCED to drive domestic fees drastically up.
One Nation's policies would make university unaffordable. Completely unaffordable. Cuts to staff would happen, degrees would disappear, and even some universities would likely shut down under One Nation. How do we expect to get doctors and nurses trained if One Nation is busy sending unis bust?
You cannot afford education under One Nation.
