It is a different person each time, and they are all beautiful.

would you help someone get an abortion where it was illegal?

would you shelter someone fleeing persecution, even if the law said not to?

would you help a gay couple stay together when the state decided their relationship was unlawful?

instead, would you report someone else for breaking the law? will you snitch on your hungry neighbors for stealing food? on your homeless neighbors for sleeping where they’re able?

would you break laws to protect someone you love? a community you love? yourself?

maomao is my favorite "not like other girls" style protagonist bc for one shes a girls girl through and through. to the bone. and two she's just a weird little freak. absolute lunatic. they have the whole "omg she's actually beautiful and everyone falls for her when she's all made up" trope but the punchline is that she does not fucking want to look like that. she actively puts dirt on her face every day bc she does not want to be perceived as attractive (mostly out of fear of being used for sex work though at the same time she has the utmost respect for women who do sex work like she grew up in a brothel those are her sisters). she's Sherlock level smart and solves every mystery so fast but goes "well thats none of my business. anyway back to testing poisons on myself" she has the 2nd most powerful guy in the nation head over heels in love with her and is like "man this guy is weird around me what's his deal. what people don’t understand about how adhd is disabling is that it’s not just getting temporarily distracted from, like, school work or hobbies. it’s getting distracted/being unable to motivate yourself to go to the doctor, eat regularly, do hygiene tasks, etc. it’s not knowing when or how long it will take you to do something, ANYTHING, and in many cases that thing is taking a shower or keeping your house from turning into a biohazard. it’s about being fundamentally incapable of controlling your attention and focus on anything, even and especially things you need to do to survive.

in lily sunder has some regrets, cas complimenting how other angels kept their vessels in good shape veers towards good ole boys’ club talk. it’s kinda like like how dudes talk about keeping up their cars or other objects…

(before jimmy, i would bet that cas tended to let his vessels go, releasing them from servitude whenever possible.)

and yet these angels dominated their vessels and kept them in (eternal?) bondage and cas complimented them on that. :( he’s talking the talk! we get another glimpse of cas, the successful military career angel.

it’s interesting to me that cas knows how to navigate the angel politics fairly well here. i wouldn’t even be surprised if cas were to throw in some casual, seemingly harmless misanthropy, you know? (in fact, sam and dean plopping themselves in the booth probably made it more difficult for cas to talk the talk.)

another note: benjamin had a known relationship with the human woman he bonded with, which seems to be somewhat tolerated in angel circles, oddly enough

to wholly possess a human seems tacitly okay in angel world, but not walking beside them as separate individuals or equals

and ofc ishim’s misanthropy reads like mad-men-type misogyny, “i was wronged by a woman and now i hate women on principle,” parallels the, “i was wronged by a human and now i don’t like humans on principle.”

it’s no accident that ishim used boys’ club language, like angel’s angel / man’s man.

ok and i love that cas kinda skirted around the nature of bejamim and his human paramour’s relationship. Much like with all things “relationship,” all things “danger,” all things “intimacy and sex,” it triggers a strange awkwardness in Cas and Dean in later seasons (because they want each other; it’s the elephant in the room).

I don’t have the GIFs, but Cas seems almost relieved when Sam swoops in to provide neutral wording, which allows Cas to breeze past having to talk about angel-human relations.

Clearly, it’s something that makes Cas uncomfortable both because of his upbringing and the forbidden nature of his and Dean’s feelings. We learn that it’s not just any law, it’s the oldest law in Heaven.

And soldier angels are rife with misanthropy from what little we’ve seen. If misanthropy is that saturated in the military wing (see: Uriel) then it’s no wonder Lucifer found such easy support, (or that AU Michael was able to switch to genociding humans after defeating Lucifer).

In Ishim’s mind, humans are base creatures, ruled by their animal instincts. They shouldn’t question angels. The gender stuff is a bit of a red herring for the fandom, because it's ACTUALLY about the human-angel divide and how they view each other.
