what people who talk about disney's "adorkable problem" fail to realize is a lot of the characters they're using as a source for this have reasons to act like that!
rapunzel - isolated in a tower for her entire life. Of course she's going to be naive and socially awkward.
mirabel - outcast from her family, also 15 year old girl. what else do you except from her??
asha - doesn't even really act like that the entire movie- she was embarssed about one goddamn interview! i would be too!
I LOVE DISNEY'S WISH I LOVE ASHA
ppl who say the movie was bad honestly grow a sense of joy and whimsy
asha is the perfect quirky black girl representation that Disney so badly needed... that I SO BADLY NEEDED!! i see myself in her more than any other disney character. asha GET BEHIND ME!!
💜💜💜💜💜💫
It’s crazy to think people still see Magnifico as the good guy after he publicly humiliated a seventeen years old by forcing her to watch as he took away the last chance of her elderly grandfather to see his lifelong wish granted. After which he threatened to do the same with her mother’s wish.
Hot take: I think the usage of the word "Adorkable" used to describe and criticise modern Disney girls by YouTube essayists is just the same repackaged misogyny from the 2010 era of Buzzfeed calling the original Disney Princesses "boy-crazy"
Both parties are guilty of flattening down and misconstruing the true personalities of various Disney women for their own personal gain. What makes the usage of Adorkable more irritating to me is that those that use that term are also the first to jump to the original princesses defenses, not even seeing their own hypocrisy, as they turn back around to say that every Disney female lead after Rapunzel has the exact same personality.
Such posers
So true
the thing about media literacy is that understanding why the author chose to specify that the curtains are blue is the same skill set as understanding that the way the author characterizes all black characters as angry or all chinese characters as meek and silent is racist. it is the same skill set as being able to identify when a news source is biased or when someone is feeding you propaganda. the ability to ask "why did this person choose to present this premise in this specific way?" is a critical skill in a world full of misinformation. why are the curtains blue? maybe it's a characterization detail. maybe it's extraneous worldbuilding. why is this character written as being right all the time? maybe you're intended to disagree with them. maybe it doesn't matter. maybe you should still ask why.
I know exactly why people don't like Wish, it's because people are not use to a movie about wishes where the protagonist isn't treated like a horrible selfish ungrateful person who MUST be traumatized and brutalized just for wishing something was better or something they wanted,
like Coraline, she actually had every right to wish her parents payed attention to her considering her mother always had a attitude towards her when she would just say "hi mom" to her mother.
Elise (Little Goody two Shoes) you probably don't know what little goody two shoes is so it's a anime video game based on a fairy-tale and basically Elise as a little girl lost her grandmother who was the only one who take care of her, so Elise grows up taking care of herself completely ALONE, being worked like a slave by everyone in the village, getting friends but seeing them get killed in different ways all because she wished to be rich and never work again (propaganda shit basically)
listen, the saying "Careful what you wish for" never meant "don't wish for that at all" it means CAREFUL nothing more, nothing less.
Honestly yeah. It's like people can't understand a character being selfless just because that's how she is, she was raised in a loving home, aside from the loss of her father she didn't suffer or struggle, and she still thinks that others should have the chances that they were promised.
And the "careful what you wish for" line irks me so much because, exactly as you said. People take it to mean "don't wish anything was different or it can backfire horribly!" (which was how Coraline seemed to use it.) But in Wish it just means be careful, as with everything else in life!
People asking why Artemis II matters, lemme tell you
1. First woman to enter deep space, Christina Koch, went as a mission specialist to help test the preventative measures against the radiation that causes cancer in the ships, and primarily affects women. It affects men too but less so. Christina's literally so inspiring to me.
2. This mission and further Artemis missions are testing safety concerns to help push the boundary of what we've been able to explore up to this point. Safety is the primary purpose of the trip. This is the first step to exploring Mars and further planets! Including Europa (my beloved.)
3. Before this, only 24 humans have ever entered deep space. Of that 24, 5 are alive today and they're all in their 90s. We very much needed a newer trip to help confirm or change whatever information we had from years and years ago. Having 4 living testaments of space exploration is a very important part of keeping said exploration alive.
4. Even though it wasn't the primary purpose of the trip, we've gotten so many rare pictures! Including my favorite "Hello, World" taken by commander Reid Wiseman:
It's the second photo EVER to have a fulll illuminated Earth hemisphere, the first being "Blue Marble". All other photos of the Earth have been spliced. Blue Marble was taken during the day and Hello, World was taken at night (the exposure has been lifted for clarity). It's my new favorite photo, it's so beautiful.
