Hello! I'm an aspiring DM and I need some help. If I wanted to create a charming and kinda annoying bard/minstrel NPC, that is secretly a rebellious teenage dragon, which one of the metallic dragon race should I use for that role? (Sorry, my English sucks. It's not my first language)

I'd reccomend either a Copper, Brass, or Mercury dragon. These all lean on the Chaotic Good side of the spectrum, so it might be easier to fit their archetypes to your little rebel. I'll go ahead & post some blurbs I found on the Forgotten Realms wiki, from their it's up to you to choose which feels right for your secret-keeping songbird!

"Copper dragons are born pranksters, jokesters, and riddlers. They are chaotic good and live in rocky mountains. Copper dragons have an acid breath weapon but preferred to avoid combat altogether, instead taunting and teasing foes until they leave."

Worldbuilding Idea

The wizard stared at what was once the great library of Orthein. It’s shelves of beautifully carved elven wood were now being cloaked in smog, the vibrant book covers now a mess of black, red, and orange as the fire spread.

Such a shame, that so many years of study had led to so little, yes to much. But now the knowledge of the worlds brightest mages would all die with him. He took a sip of his cup, sitting down in a chair and closing his eyes for the last time as the worlds knowledge of the arcane crumbled around him.

Magic is incredibly powerful, and higher level spells get to be quite absurd. This leads me to think that higher level magic could reach a ‘stalemate’ where if there are opposing high level mages, they know that if they go all out the only response is mutually assured destruction. If this doesn’t make much sense watch the 1950’s Wargames movie, and if it does make sense watch it anyway because it’s really good.

I think this concept (of a stalemate from super powered magic) has 2 equally interesting outcomes- either magic is used leading to deatruction, perhaps even a Fallout-esque setting, but with magic rather than Nuclear bombs, or powerful mages vowing to never use magic beyond a certain point- letting the knowledge of how to use such spells die with them or even going as far as to destroy knowledge of magic so that others aren’t able to use that knowledge.

You could also use this as an alternative take on why magic is limited to 9th level spells, though what I have heard is the real reason from deep. D&D lore seems really cool already.

A long abandoned temple dedicated to a sea-faring race is utterly flooded by murky, cloudy water. The water obscures line of sight, but magical lights or other underwater light sources will extend to only half of their normal range. At the entrance to the dungeon bubbles forth a mysterious, clear spring in an oddly well-kept looking fountain. Drinking the fountains waters imbues a creature with an hour of water-breathing ability and a compulsion to not leave the depths of the temple. A DC15 Wisdom save, repeatable every 10 minutes, allows a creature to resist these thoughts. The water may be bottled, but loses it’s magic after 24 hours, and a creature imbibing it out of view of the temple suffers severe anxiety and paranoia, as well as vivid delusions of being pulled underwater.
