I wish people were as scared of getting into a car accident as they are of being true crime'd. Maybe then they wouldn't be on their phones while driving.
Sam Reid is forever in a hair half in a ponytail half down hairstyle and I really love this for him because I, too, have fabulous hair but also do not want it in my face.
"And I cannot say even now that I regret Claudia, that I wish I had never seen her, nor held her, nor whispered secrets to her, nor heard her laughter echoing through the shadowy gaslighted rooms of that all too human town house in which we moved amid the lacquered furniture and the darkening oil paintings and the brass flowerpots as living beings should. Claudia was my dark child, my love, evil of my evil. Claudia broke my heart."
- in The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice
IF THIS ISN'T IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM IN SEASON 3, THE WRITERS WILL HATE TO SEE ME COMING!
the "my favorite character did nothing wrong" mindset is completely unappealing to me because i love thinking about all the things my favorite characters did wrong
It’s Pride Month Eve, so leave out some milk for Freddie Mercury and his cats.
Annual reblog of Freddie and his magnificent cats.
happy Pride Eve!
God bless you for your patience with all these foolish shipping asks.
Even for people who haven't read the books, are they missing all the other things the show is about???
Such as... cycles of trauma, the question of how people who exist outside of or on the fringes of human society relate to one another, all the moral knottiness of having to take life to sustain your own, the quandry of bringing somebody else into that existence to stem loneliness only for one or both of you to feel that you have condemned them, the deeply interesting experience of how immortality forces the vampire to exist in contexts vastly different from their context of origin and with wildly different social values, how to keep up with those changes, how characters from these wildly different contexts relate to each other (how an 18th century European aristocrat can or cannot relate to an 20th century Black Southern girl, to give one of a bazillion examples), the edifying nature of art and music, the question of enduring when the only way to make your life end is to do it intentionally, how narrativisation and renarrativisation of our lives' events can impact our identities, the goddamn history of vampires, ALL OF IT.
And that's not even bringing in all the other interesting things from the books, or the ways these manifest in the books. (I'm on a PL trilogy reread rn to keep me going until Sunday and so thinking about Anne's mythology and philosophy a lot).
If the viewer isn't paying heed to all the other aspects of the show, they are missing out on so much. It IS about relationships, but in a more general and interesting way than just 'who put what bits where' or 'when will pretty men smooch'. Immortality and the parasitic nature of how it is sustained complicates EVERYTHING in these characters' lives.
It's not a Mills and Boon with fangs. (No shade on romance novels, I myself go through them like NOLA Louis goes through rats). It's complex. Someone yesterday asked you why you want a queer show to not have payoff for its central romance quickly. I want to ask them why they don't want a queer show to be about all sorts of things beyond sexual dynamics. It strikes me that many viewers are so yaoi poisoned that they are treating these complex characters like fetish objects to be smushed together at will for their own gratification, with no care or love for the wider mythos or thematic questions.
Let it be complicated. Let it be art, ffs.
Sorry for the rant, I am just quite annoyed by how much nagging BS you're getting. It feels so shitty for us old guard VC fans that we are getting this wonderful adaptation that we wish to enjoy in community with one another only for it to be overtaken by flat interpretation, shipping wars, and toxic fandom discourse.
Thank you for all you do. One week to go!! 💚
One week to go!! *hugs*
And yeah, it's... well.
I kind of blame the way the first seasons were framed within the show. Louis' tale had such a focus on the "jealousy" aspects in a concentrated effort to not address the vampiric aspects that a lot of all this *waves hand* flies over people's heads. Hence all the human AUs on Ao3, too.
But that is very much what the VC are about, yes.
And this season will drive this aspect home.
That one guy your friend can't get over
oh? do you have pwobwem? is thewe something funny with his hair? do you find his hair… wisible?
Oh yeah I’m looking forward to these memes
When I tell you this scene had me sobbing on the floor!
That's him. That's Lestat. That's my baby! I waited 14 years to see him! 😭♥️
people being surprised by lestat's choice to sing from the pov of magnus in "your biggest fan" and make it sound romantic… have you ever heard about a little obscure song called "every breath you take".
Nalyra, did u read the 1st chapter of Hate and Ashbury by Daniel? Some ppl put it online for fans to read and it's so good!
Who writes these things? Ebogo himself? I wish it was a real book!
I don't think Eric wrote it, but it is really good, yes!
And so many hidden treasures, little things that we KNOW already are 2x05 woven into the mind-edit-memory.
I loved reading it!
Found on X. This is so interesting!
I have a Vampire Dance that I honed 16 years ago as a teenager with a two foot high stack of cheap Anne Rice paperbacks. The Vampire Dance is a sort of Kate Bush/Stevie Nicks vibe mixed in with reckless autistic abandon, with lots of arms and twirling and leaning back in an ecstatic manner. It goes in conjunction with my VC playlist, which started on the iPod I bought with my babysitting money, and has been continually tinkered with ever since.
The biggest problem I have with the QotD soundtrack is how useless it is for The Vampire Dance. Nary a one track on it made it onto my Vampire Chronicles playlist (for reference, he G'n'R 'Sympathy for the Devil' is a fixture).
Now though. Now I'll be doing The Vampire Dance to the glorious Hart/Reid tunes from S3. I couldn't be more delighted.
There is something of 'Hands Clean' by Alanis Morrisette in 'Your Biggest Fan'. The survivor of something awful singing in the voice of the predator that harmed them.
It's devastating and beautiful.
